Topaz Video AI Beta 7.2.0.0.b

Hello fellow upscalers ! Not much to add to what has been said. Topaz should include Starlight Sharp (or “Wonder”) in the customer grade abo, and not only during the beta test. I won’t repeat all valid points which have been raised, we all agree on those.

That said, why was there a need to develop a new separate Starlight Model ? I don’t get the logic -beside the commercial aspect trying to push us people to buy Pro abo, which we will NOT- behind that. You have Starlight Cloud, in two versions, you have Stalight Mini, and now you have Starlight Sharp ??

This is very confusing for any customer, including the Pro ones, and it gives a feeling of sloppiness by Topaz. Instead of tweaking existing models, instead of improving further what still needs to get worked on (as “monster faces” for Starlight and Starlight Mini), they launch out of the blue a model whose purpose seems more commercial than technological.

This is not right and gives a bad image of Topaz labs, changing all the time their business model and ignoring their true customer base : us.

I don’t know if it should be called starlight at all. It produces different results so its like comparing Iris and Proteus, for example. I guess the both use a diffusion model and take ages so they have something in common.
I think the Starlight sharp results can be very good and sometimes not so good. I am not sure it warrants being Pro when Starlight MIni is not. Of course, this is based on the beta results and it could get better.

I don’t think any model warrants “being pro”. But it’s not my company, I’m curious to see what they think will entice regular customers to buy updates going forward. (Or if regular customers are even part of their new business model)

Personally I would be happy to test Pro feature because it gives me a better chance to see if I think it is worth the extra price to me than any trial version would give me. Having said that the £1000 per year for Pro is out of my price range.

  1. The bug / behavior you have encountered
I upscaled a DVD source and in the preview it looked fantastic for quite some time, then I left the PC. When I came back it had reported that the Export failed with message:
“Some parameter(s) may not be supported by the codec. Check FFmpeg command.”
Then settings for the project was lost and defaulted to no enhancement.

Go to C:\ProgramData left click on folder “Topaz Labs LLC” then Properties, then “Security” tab - and look what You have there, are permissions there correct? For more details go to my topic where i resvolve this problem: My Issue

I checked and permissions are fine on the directory.
There is no problem downloading the model, the model is loaded and the export starts fine.
I can in the preview window see the progress of the export and that the model is applied correctly. Everything seems to work.
It then fails somewhere at the end of the process when it is finishing up.
Thanks for the tip though!

This is an issue with decoding av1

See post below:

The current workaround would be to convert the input using Handbrake.
