After upgrading to 7.1.0, AV1 video decoding is now broken again for myself. My encoded video is from Vegas Pro, opened in Video AI 7.1.0, the video plays back in the original pane. If i proceed to FPS interpolate, it errors out, regardless of the output ( AV1, 264, 265, ProRes ).

The logs mention that AV1 decoding is not supported on my platform

When I use AV1 Y420 10-bit color 7360x3680 59.94 fps as the source file, the preview doesn’t work.

This is a known issue that the team is working on addressing.

The current recommendation is to convert the file to a different format and container and bring it into the app for processing.

It finishes all the tasks, and at the end i get the following error “Scene concatenation failed”. It appears to only happen when I have scene detection enabled. I am upscaling 1080p->4k using Proteus and Aion for FPS conversion. I’ve tried with Chronos and Apollo, same issue.

It looks like this is related to decoding the AV1 file. Our team is aware of this issue and looking into the back end to see what could be causing the issue.

For now, can you try converting your input using Handbrake and then try importing the converted version back into Video AI for processing?

  1. Drag and drop your video to import it

  2. I recommend going to the “dimensions” tab and under “resolution limit” > none

  3. I also recommend going to the “video” tab and under “framerate (FPS)” > Same as source

  4. Then click “start”

This will ensure that it retains the original resolution and frame rate with the converted file.

  1. Create a new project
  2. Import one AV1 1080p video
  3. Set it as: Improve 1080p ; Proteus model ; Frame interpolation 50 fps
  4. Set export as: HEVC main or AV1 8 bits ; High quality ; Audio passthrough
  5. Go to the timeline and move the playback to one position
  6. Try to render 2s preview

Rendering error
