Topaz Video AI v4.0.0

I really enjoyed that 4-way split view. I always wondered why they got rid of it.

If you are familiar with Nvidia Control Panel try making a Program Settings profile for TVAI and set the Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum performance and test again. Iā€™ve been having an issue with my RTX 3090 in one of my computers where TVAI hasnā€™t been clocking up my card like it has a workload on it. Changing that setting in Nvidia Control Panel restored the speeds I was getting in TVAI before the issues started. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s a Driver, OS or Program issue that has been introduced overtime.

Thanks for this, I mustā€™ve looked at an old benchmark using the CPU only (with integrated GPU). I have a currently unused 3060 Ti which I will install and benchmark. Have edited my post accordingly.

The big surprise for me is that the 2013 4770K works at all with TVAI 4.x, itā€™s a pre-2014 CPU which Topaz say wonā€™t work, donā€™t they? But a bit of googling tells me that Haswell does have AVX2 so allā€™s well here, now. My trusty 4770K lives on.

This becomes too complicated to use with every new releaseā€¦
Itā€™s time to switch to another program.

I see part of the issue. The older program would show a preview and stop at the end of the rendered preview. The new V4 doesnā€™t. Except for a flash on the screen at the end of the rendered clip, youā€™d never know you were now looking at unrendered video. Whatā€™s the point of looking at original vs original? Please change it back to looping so that we can review the additional differences when comparing Original vs new Preview.

Any time, yeah, Iā€™ve been bugging the hell out of the devs about this for some time as well, so we have a shared interest in the matter, I even uploaded comparison footage with all the interpolation models and various frame input combos and the like, took me hours of prep work, heh, I even kept the test vids that I sent them.

They fixed everything even the stabilisation, and deblur that triggered the bug after the first fix, so they have the tools and hopefully code to remedy the issue once again, hopefully in the next beta!

It is indeed a very buggy releaseā€¦ one Iā€™m sure that theyā€™ll fix soon enough, hopefully in the next patch/beta!

I really hate this and I wish I had not updated to this version.
I used to make preview of several scenes with different settings.
Like scene 1 preview 1, 2 and 3
scene 2 preview 1, 2 and 3
Now this is no longer possible because it just adds to the previous preview and I can not even set it to 100 % because it only shows me the size of my original source video.
So I have to open my preview in another player to see my previews.

The second and really serious problem is that I can not choose the exact model in the 2nd enhancement. It just says Dione but I needed Dione TV 3.
Iā€™m upscaling and restoring very old files and it is a delicate play with models and settings.
Part 2 will now look different to Part 1 from 2 weeks ago because I can not use the exact same settings anymore.

Hi - I deinterlaced (Iris LQ 2x) 29.97 fps video and exported the 59.94 fps. On importing back, the input is now ā€˜120 fpsā€™ (itā€™s 59.94 in VLC), so no further enhancements without doing a frame interpolation.
Thanks

Not a good release at all. I was excited when the 3.0 was released, because we could clearly see the potiental, and it was a matter of time that the software become great to useā€¦

but ā€¦ this 4.0 is a big disapointment. itā€™s an horrible worflow, full of bugs. bugs can be fixed, but changing the way a software work is only good when itā€™s to improve the user experience, something which is clearly not there. out of bugs, using this release is not fun anymore. first time its need a tutorialā€¦ what a messā€¦

itā€™s a simple software, which does simple tasks. why making it so complex to use ? :frowning:

  • the lesson of the too early release not ready yet from last year, has not been learned.

not nice :frowning: . as iā€™m an early adopter guy, i installed the 4.0 and will follow the upcoming ā€œimprovementsā€, but I installed back the last 3.5 beta and will use it instead, as itā€™s not possible to install 2 different version of a release. :frowning: at least this is possible but not nice.

first time since iā€™m a Topaz user since 2020 that iā€™m not supporting what has been done.
the new ā€œpreviewā€ is just horrible to use. but all this has already been told by everybody here.

Clearly the ā€œcomparaison featureā€, needed to be added as an option, not as a replacement, and the new preview mode is just a ā€œNoā€ !!

Anywayā€¦

The 1 | 2 thing is really annoying. I donā€™t need it to constantly render 2 videos when Iā€™m just testing one model. Donā€™t care for the GUI ā€œimprovementsā€ overall. Previous GUI was just fine, better even.

Youā€™ll be back.

Download the previous version then and install that:

Iā€™m sticking with 3.5.4 until 4.x has been improved somewhat. Itā€™s not worth re-learning the interface until then IMO.

I would highly suspect this is related to image sequences, as each new major release seems to have issues with them.

Anytime I click to preview, the processing of the preview starts. However pressing play on the preview just plays the side by side identical to the left. Stopping and dragging the sursur back and forth along the processed time line still doesnā€™t show the actual output.

I thought at first the preview was entirely broken for live preview, until I was patient enough to wait until the processing was finished on one test. On that test, as soon as the preview process was complete, the right image immediately changed and updated to the actual output.

Further testing confirmed with 100% reproduction - the preview doesnā€™t work until the preview process has finished.

Also, everytime anew image sequence is imported the timeline is borked. I have to manually adjust the zoom slider forwards and backwards to fix it.

I am on my remote computer so the screenshot is not the best, but this is an example:

The slider at the bottom clearly shows I am in the middle of the preview processing, but the comparison images are the same. Once I wait for the preview to finish processing, the right image gets updated to the preview.

If I were to hazard a guess - and its entirely a guess - it feels like the image sequence is being encoded to a video stream, so waits till it is done, encodes and then displays the preview. I can probably live with it if I get used to it enough, but I much prefer immediately being able to see what the output looks like. If it looks terrible I can usually see it straight away and stop wasting time processing.

Good to know. Iā€™m doing PNG output, so no encoding to be done, but it does indeed act like that.

Thereā€™s only one thing I want from this software.
This is the evolution of AI learning.
Interpolated frames of footage of fast-moving subjects will be inaccurate.
Apollo, Apollo First, Kronos, Kronos First
Images of fast-moving subjects are inaccurate.
Manufactured frames are inaccurate.
I would like developers to prioritize the evolution of AI and do their best.
It is sufficient to leave the interface at 3.xx.
To compare the AI results, play each preview file.
Users will have to make their own comparisons, and thatā€™s okay.
I think your development priorities are wrong.

What I donā€™t get in my test of version 4:
If one scales e.g. 720p to 4K in the preview, then why is the video not displayed in 4K resolution after creating the preview in the relevant time section at 100% view? Surely that doesnā€™t make any sense? Or do I understand something wrong?

Can you please bring back the Cropping Tool. I used it a lot Before processing.

Tonight I get always an red cross error when I enable the Frame Interpolation. For couriosity yesterday it did work. :eyes: logsForSupport.zip (972.9 KB)

This must be fixed urgently, as itā€™s a dealbreaker for people with slower GPUs. Live previews are crucial to determine early whether the current settings are good enough. Having to wait until processing is over amounts to a huge amount of wasted time over a large period.
