Topaz Video AI v4.0.0

I think I will pass on this version.

Hi
I tried the new NYX2. It is very good at denoising without losing details, but like ForSerious told in another post, It oversharpen a lot and is unusable for this reason.

A big thing for me and a lot of pro’s, would be if it could read timecode. At the moment if you want to trim, you can’t do it by the actual clip timecode, which resets to 00:00:00:00

Thanks for this!

11 months ago I purchased a licence because TVAI worked on my Arc A750, 8 months ago they screwed it up and it hasn’t worked since, so I basically stopped using it.
Now with 1 month left on my licence they’re going to graciously start fixing the problem
 yeah, right.
If they had an ounce of decency they’d extend the licence period of people who have been waiting for Arc support to be fixed for the last 8 months until all models are working on Arc.

I cannot agree more !! I would have expected a sorry from the Director of Engineering

I hope that we do not get just preview reinventions because the core code has been lost I have seen this quit a few times in US start ups where the original engineers left but the wrappers around got some updates that seemed like an update but when the interfaces of the devices changed there was no way to get it recompiled for faster interfaces. The engineers had left of course customers never knew and still do not know

It is very silent at the other side of the moon Does any of the Engineers use Topaz Video AI or is it programmed somewhere in a remote location.

The good thing is that someone has made the 3.5.4 link available again and downgrade is easy from Alpha 4, 0000000000000001 to Stable 3.5.4

Please make this new comparison view optional and not the only option - it is annoying as hell.

This is a disaster. I’ve never seen a release get so much negative feedback. Why the rush to release an unstable product with so little beta testing and broken features, Topaz??

Rolled back to 3.5.4 and can confirm frame rates are back to normal. Will be sticking with that release until this gets fixed.

There are SO many comments about the TVAI 3 user interface being ‘unusable’ or ‘not as good as 2’ and several with the ‘I’m going back to 2’ thrown in. We basically forced them to change the UI. It was clear we wanted something better—or maybe just the UI of VEAI 2 back.

Now with all the same comments, but about TVAI 4 UI, we are going to force them to completely change the UI again.

I’m not sure what I want to vote for. VEAI 2 was nice. TVAI 3 was very similar to 4. I mainly just want a UI that has a zoomable timeline (With the scroll wheel. Check out GoldWave for a perfect example) and the ability to create as many sections as I need for a video. Each section needs to be able to have multiple AI models assigned to it—and those models need to be able to have different settings. Overall output resolution should be the same, but I should be able to choose if the section will process with the X2 or X4 version of the AI model.

My basic work-flow example would be this. I have a video with several scenes, but let’s just look at the first two. First one is dark indoors with lots of grain, the next is light outside with lots of trees. I would make a selection of scene one, set Nyx with high denoise and Proteus with specific settings that look great for that scene. I would then select then next scene. For it I would maybe turn off Nyx or turn the denoise down. I would still want to use Proteus, but with very different settings to make sure the trees don’t get fake nasty details added to them. Anyway, I would keep defining settings for sections of the video like that until I have it all covered.
I WOULD NEED TO SAVE AND LOAD THOSE SETTINGS because this could take days.
(I should probably add this explanation to this idea topic The title of it does not give the same idea, but it talks about it.

All of that explanation is because I think the UI of TVAI 4 is going in the right direction for me to get the work-flow I want. In the meantime I made a monster script that reads setting files and runs the CLI based on them. It does not allow different models for different sections though—or even more than two sections.

Hm , given the very, very mixed reviews, I’m going to pass on this version. I had downloaded a copy, but I’m going to wait for 4.0.1 or 4.1.0 for them to add some things that were deleted in this current version, which existed in 3.5.4.

I think the worst thing is the preview doesn’t loop
there’s nothing more annoying. for me the speeds are the same. it’s not slower, the interface is good but just with too many bugs. I think I will buy a license when it works well, the most important thing is the preview

@Imo

Still problems with err?

I had to use DDU to make Photolab to work again with my rtx gpu.

Maybe give it a try.

Lol what is your point? That they should have never even bothered messing with the UI since V2? I agree, there was never a point for V3, they could have gotten the relevant changes into the V2 UI. V3 UI became serviceable after many months so people stopped complaining but now they just did it again. The problem this time is that they state compatibility with hardware that clearly doesn’t work. V3 lost features from V2 that they had no reason not to put back in.

You want some of the stuff that the new UI does
that’s great, you are the minority. Most people don’t want any of what they’ve done here and they had no warning it was coming. Now their remaining license is useless. If I could do a poll of how many people would prefer fixing all the things that are supposed to work in V3 vs this V4, what do you think will win? The big problem is this doesn’t fix anything from V3, just adds more issues on top.

IMO V3 and V4 should be split into different products. They can even call V4 “TVAI Pro” to make you guys feel good. The issue with this is once they fix V3 to be what it’s supposed to be, nobody will extend their license @ $150/yr
maybe @ @50/yr if they improve and add models from time to time. They can get their $150/yr from you “pro” guys. The real goal here as they’re doing it is to keep TVAI in a perpetual beta state so you’ll keep buying it hoping one day you’ll get what they promised you.

Settings in TVAI?

I hope you read it all again, but since you asked, here it is:
The UI has never been good. Mass complaints will push a change eventually. In the software development world, that can take a long time. I think that that’s where these changes come from. They look like they’re headed in the direction of good with the UI changes.

Most ‘Professionals’ that use TVAI want it to be a plugin for the video editor they already know and love. People who want to process large quantities of videos with the same settings, want the CLI. People who want to get into the world of video enhancement with TVAI don’t know how lacking it is, and therefore just want it to work.
Right now only the CLI people are getting what they want.

Can you not just renstall the version that worked?

Completely wrong. V2 UI was perfectly fine. You won’t find many complaints there.

Nobody wants to sit here and complain about a UI to “push a change”, when fixes for hardware issues go completely unanswered.

Sure it can take a long time to fix a UI, so why did it go from beta to release in 1 week?

People may “want” a plugin or whatever but that’s not what they purchased and their current purchase doesn’t mandate that Topaz gives them a plugin. Their purchase up to a week ago mandates that they get a fully functioning program along the lines of V3
they didn’t get that.

It would add regressed frames with DVD sources
The colorspace conversion was often wrong and uncorrectable. There was issues with the way it was made, that limited the progress of frame interpolation models. Those are just the things I complained about. I was only a small voice in the mountain of complaints with VEAI 2.

Even if they had remade the UI to look the same as VEAI 2. We’d still have the same issues that are now in TVAI 3 and 4.
