5.1.0.0.b

There are several major changes that weā€™re looking forward to your feedback on:

1. Instant Rendering (Experimental)

Video AI now renders previews as soon as you click ā€˜Playā€™.

Instant renders make the timeline more interactive and allow you to directly compare models with shorter wait times.

2. Frame Interpolation for DaVinci Resolve OFX (macOS + Windows)

Access Apollo, Aion, and Chronos directly from DaVinci Resolve. Convert to slow motion at up to 16x interpolation and make use of Resolveā€™s retiming controls for smooth speed-ramping.

To use Frame Interpolation in Resolve, be sure to follow the guide posted here.

3. New multi-GPU options (Video AI Pro)

Video AI now includes two multi-GPU modes. The existing ā€œAll GPUsā€ option now supports NVIDIA cards running TensorRT models, leading to major utilization increases for systems with 2+ NVIDIA cards. This mode is now named ā€œSingle videoā€ under ā€œGPU Settingsā€.

The second mode, ā€œMultiple videosā€, optimizes for large export queues when running on systems with multiple GPUs. Weā€™ll have more to share about this Video AI Pro feature when it launches in June.

4. New Welcome Screen

Quickly reopen projects and resume renders using the new Welcome Page. This is a home for recent projects and includes the ability to select favorites for easy access.

5. Preferences UI Refresh

Navigate settings using the new preferences sidebar with expanded categories and new tooltips.

6. Colorspace settings added to Video Input Options

Set custom colorspace, color primaries, color trc, and color range for video inputs with metadata issues.

GPU selection is stillā€¦wrong.

Where 5.0.4 was just selecting the wrong GPU, this beta seems to be alternating between all of them. As export runs, I can see utilization on all three GPUs rising and falling between zero and 100% in what appears to be a rotation. Overall export time is slower, which is probably to be expected since one of the three GPUs is significantly slower than the other two.

You canā€™t drag a video to the program any longer?

big fan of the instant rendering feature!

Video AI starts with a totally new screen. Do I always have to start an - supposedly - unnecessary project just to work on a video file now? :eyes:

Iā€™ve just noticed in the project window that there is an option to ā€œShow project file in finderā€. As Iā€™m on Windows, this should probably be changed.

Edit: Maybe there should also be an option to auto load into a default project for those who donā€™t want to manage projects.

Edit2: The new colourspace options in the input ā€œEditā€ window all share the same tooltip with the ā€œTelecinedā€ option.

YUK !!!

Donā€™t need this project thing at all, just want to add a video, get on with it and be done.

No preview tab anymore ? Just exports.

  • after the preview was generated it still told me it was unprocessed. i think this is related to the initial frame only:

  • the before and after frame do not match. this is an ongoing issue for months now reported before often:

  • during experiments with the preview it suddenly begun to ā€œprocessingā€¦ā€ the whole movie. how can i stop that?

The Processing Optimization can not be tested because it is grayed out:

  • ā€œShow in Exploreā€ does nothing (as usual, it never did).

  • Attention: the option for the export path in the preferences moved to a different location!

This is expected when using the ā€œAll GPUsā€ setting with cards that are not close in speed and VRAM capacity. In this case, weā€™d recommend using your primary GPU for processing.

Did you turn on ā€œInstant Renderā€ by mistake? It will process a section wherever the playhead is.

There is still an option to set an export output folder, but itā€™s moved to where the default export preferences are. The file location for previews now seems to be with the project folder.

Iā€™m not using the All GPUs setting. Iā€™m selecting ONE GPU, and itā€™s doing this no matter which one I select.

Unknown. I will keep an eye on it when it happens again!

I just updated and this is happening to me too. Itā€™s using my 7840HS Ryzen laptop CPU to 80% (all 16 threads) PLUS loading the 780M AMD iGPU and my 4060 even though the 4060 is the only thing selected.

Also on a laptop with DPI scaling enabled in Windows (125% afaik) I get thisā€¦ bug where the preview button is blocked by the new pane and so I have to close my settings to run the preview + change preview framecount lol

Thank you! Weā€™re very excited for this. Our goal is to replace the preview system with this workflow once it is ready and the issues are ironed out.

Itā€™s also doing it if I select CPU.

I think whatā€™s happening is itā€™s running All GPUs no matter what you select for AI processor.

Totally with you. The ā€œprojectā€ thing just gets in the way. What a PIA.

And as someone else noted, canā€™t drop a video into the giant open space next to the right of the recent/favorites. Even canā€™t drop it onto the New project box, button, whatever that is.

Finallyā€¦ congratulations on the dual GPU settings.

Is this really what you are working on?

How many beta testers are running more than 1 GPU? Of at the Premiere forum weā€™ve been telling people for years (whenever it rarely comes up) not to use dual gpus. That was a legacy of the SLI days.

Are multi-GPU builds dead? : r/buildapc

I googled ā€˜multiple gpusā€™ and thatā€™s the top google result.

Projects and multi-gpus??

Honestly, Iā€™d prefer being able to quickly see some results, like four-up like the old days. But anyway, quicker results, a grid that doesnā€™t scroll off the screen, that would show most recent firstā€¦ so many things. I havenā€™t even gotten a video in VAI 5.1 yet. Iā€™m still at the opening screen, and canā€™t drop a file in there.

The projects UI should not be the default. Open with the previous interface and move the project commands from File to their own Projects dropdown. Users shouldnā€™t be required to create a project just to do a one-shot process of a short clip.

Yes, make the projects an (unwanted) option rather than the default.

So, I had to create a project, just to drop my video into it. I set an in/out and clicked render in to out, and nothing happened, then my fans started making noise, so I new something was afoot. But no indication at all from the interface. I eventually had to quit to stop it, as I couldnā€™t figure out what it was doing, and there was only a unprocessed message on everywhere on the clip, inside and before and after the in/out points.

That selecting an in/out has always been problematic. So, usually when I want to do some real testing, I make a clip using Shutter Encoder ā€˜cut without re-encodingā€™ and use that so I donā€™t have to rely on VAI respecting the in/out range.

Personally, Iā€™d prefer you work the basics and leave the projects and multi-gpus to a much later time.
