Wrong duration written for exported files

Problem observed:
When I export a video with a mark in and mark out, the resulting file’s duration is the (original file duration - mark in) and not (mark out - mark in). This seems the same as another bug, which is inexplicably both auto-closed and marked as “investigating”. I’d link directly, but it doesn’t let me link to the same forum?

Repro:

  1. Open a video, preferably a long (e.g. 1+ hours) one to best illustrate the issue, but any should do. I’m going to use the 720p Sintel video from the Blender open movie project for this example. I’d provide a direct link, but apparently the forum software doesn’t like that.
  2. Mark in at 3 minutes into the video (Sintel jumping onto the roof)
  3. Mark out at 3:30 into the video (Sintel holding the baby dragon)
  4. Click “Export As”, all default settings, no models or alterations needed
  5. Notice that the exported file starts in the mark-in location, but somehow has the same length as the original file minus 3 minutes (11 minutes, 50 seconds). Seeking after the 30 second mark does not work, so the correct amount of video was encoded.

Screenshot of incorrect duration:

Since I marked in at 3 minutes and out at 3:30, the length should be 30 seconds.
I can upload the video if you’d like. I imagine that setting a low bitrate and shortening it up will make it small enough to upload easily.

System Profile:
There doesn’t seem to be a great way to automatically do this. Here’s some info:
Processor 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i9-13900K, 3000 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
Adapter Description NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090

Looking into this now and trying to recreate on my end for the team.

Can you copy the other forum post link here or put the title that it was under?

Putting the link worked!
I suspect my original problem adding the link was a misunderstanding on my part… I had “blender.org” in the post and it considered that a link and blocked my post. I thought that was the forum post link but it seems like I was wrong.

Thanks let me have the team take a look. The previous post ended up getting closed as the users did not reply back with logs for further investigation. In my tests I was not able to replicate the same situation and needed more info from them.
