Video Enhance v2.4.0

Is there a noticable difference between hardware/software H265 encoding?

Significantly, both in resulting video quality and file size.

Nvenc will give you the quality, but at a much larger file size. It should only be used for livestreaming. Use software to get good quality and better compression.

Hi - what is the best setup when using an Apple system? Does the M1 chip enhance performance or is it even compatible? Would adding an external GPU to an iMac help? If so, what does anyone recommend?

I have a 2019 iMac running Big Sur 11.6 ā€“ with 40GB of RAM, 3.7 GHz 6-Core Intel i5, Radeon Pro 580X 8GB internal GPU.

Just looking for any way possible to speed up the rendering.

Iā€™m currently getting 1.6 sec / frame for Chronos HD doubling the frame rate with 1280x720 video.

With other options, I get .2 sec / frame when working with 720p video.

Hoping to find a way to cut this time in half with any type of Mac machine or add-on.

Thanks!

Michael

Thought Iā€™d share a Computer/GPU direct comparison. I just received an EVGA RTX 3060 Ti from the queue. A couple of months ago I purchased a RTX 3060 through the EVGA queue so this might be of interest. Both computers have very similar components with the slight exception of the CPUā€™s. Anyway the listing is in the image.

The image is a spreadsheet I made to do a quick check on time versus total frames. The test video is 1280x720 scaling to 1920x1080.

Just to be clear also the GPUā€™s were $400 and $470 plus tax and shipping.

That doesnā€™t seem to be the issue, especially since I could easily install and run v2.3.0 without any problems. There are also reports (above in the thread) of other people having problems with the program just sitting there at the downloading model stage when previewing, so itā€™s probably a program bug that only appears in a specific set of circumstances.

Anybody know if Apple ā€œcinematicā€ metadata will be supported in coming updates? The phone captures LIDAR depth data and can let me choose the focus location while editing. The native res is 1080P and Iā€™d like to upscale it to 4k.

Youā€™ll need to put in a feature request via the app if you want an answer.

It seems from Linkedin their main Video Enhance AI programmer/manager left the company, so there is no updates to this software and silence. Not good. Could the company write back here how the things are? Nothing from Topaz to say?

There are updates. Look on Facebook.

I donā€™t see anything about it on Topaz Labs Facebook. Also nothing about Video Enhace AI past 2.4.0

From what I could tell Taylor only wrote the new GUI for VEAI. Albert is the main programmer, and usually too busy to interact on the forum. Emily is the community manager.

there is someone else in charge of the speed of the software with the processing, heā€™s the one responsable of the amazing decrease of rendering speed with artemis when it has been avaiable.
They all work at the same time on several of the products. some devs work at the same time on VEAI and gigapixel certainly due to the similarity of both software.

I donā€™t think Emily is aroundā€¦someone else is posting on FB now.

Clearly you didnā€™t look. Ida Patton is the new admin and has several comments on otherā€™s posts, including updates of whatā€™s going on, on FB as of yesterday.

Yeah, I donā€™t think soā€¦there has only been one dev working on VEAI at a time, from everything weā€™ve seen in the past and even now.

Hi! Iā€™m still around but Ida has been promoted to Product Specialist for Video Enhance AI and will be your primary point of contact moving forward. Sheā€™s super smart and capable and I think having her as our dedicated product specialist for VEAI will really help improve overall support and developer experience

Iā€™m just trying to get an answer as to whether we will continue to have a direct contact to a developer, as we did with Taylor and others before him. It was much more helpful than just putting tickets into a system or communicating through a middleperson.
