Known Issues

  • Max. Memory Usage may get set to the minimum after installing. Change it in Preferences.
  • Certain VOB files do not open correctly
  • Some videos can still have some seeking issues in Preview/Export
  • Preview is not instant on Export
  • Color space / HDR issues
  • Keyboard navigation missing
  • Intel codec not working on some machines
  • Apollo failing when AI Processor is set to Auto on Windows
  • Some quality mismatch between 2.6.4 and 3.0
  • App doesn’t clear the temp folder
  • App only shows resolution in DAR and not in SAR
  • Hovering over Max. Memory Usage in Preferences quickly triggers a tooltip that covers the slider.
  • Multiple selection for input videos is missing
  • Different view mode is still missing

Problems and solutions:

  • If the output doesn’t open in other applications, disable Allow Recovery before processing in Preferences > Output (note: Allow Recovery is required for previewing exported video in the app while processing)
  • If export fails, try using Transcode or None in Audio Settings in Preferences
  • If Apollo is failing on your Windows, change AI Processor from Auto to GPU

Windows DL link broken - takes me to an XML page

Working now - maybe I’m too fast

Ahh thanks to have added the frame per second / second per frame switch in Preference ! couldn’t stop to smile when i saw it ahah !

  • Still a small issue in the Preference / folders, Slash / and\ are reversed in the Adress for Temp and Data folder unless one is a network drive ;).

  • Happen on playback only fro preview (only testing preview for now), source and preview are not in sync during the first second, but from what i see it’s related to the slowdown on the playback during the first second and which is there since the first Gui prototype. not sure it’s done on purpose or not.
this issue doesn’t happen when scrolling the cursor on the timeline (sorry i never remember the english name for that)

  • on my i7-7700/asrock H270m-itx A/C / 1050ti, the bug of ram set on zero is there in preferences as related in the change log’s (in case it’s machine specific).

Good stuff so far
scrubbing is working, preview is instant!

yeah  just reporting what i test, in case ! ;). very happy to see this version today for personnal machiavelic reason lol !

for the one who didn’t noticed it, while closing the preview if it’s not finished, the preview still continue to process / render, i think it’s a very cool feature, it allow to continue to scrub (?) the video and add new preview to the list. But in case we want to stop totally the preview, except the “close video”, there is no stop button. (not a big deal at all).

Export files are still picking up the time and date stamp from the original video and not the actual time and date they were created.

I’m getting the correct date and time for the exported file.

Mine are definitely not. I’ve done multiple exports from several videos. Every export has the date/time of whatever original it came from.

Much more usable. I’m seeing about a .01spf difference in processing speed between 2.6.4 and this beta. Preview is night and day better. Preview during processing is slow to show up but that is not a show stopper. Scale box in Resize section now shows the complete amount.

The big thing for me is Proteus Auto seems to working correctly. While the values for my processing in full auto are slightly off I can make the changes to the sliders and get great results. For my test video Dehalo was too aggressive but dropping it by 10 which is what I normally do with this video worked fine. Same for Deblur. Able raise it by 15 and the entire video seems correct. Since I’m not interested in 4K work I can’t say this holds for that but I’m happy.

I did have issues after the first installing with an FFMPEG error. That was corrected by not assigning changes in directories, just default installation. With all the past installs I need to clean the registry and all Topaz folders and do a complete fresh installation. That will include models but I only use a few so no big deal.

Very Nice Update!

We run tests to try to reproduce this when you reported it on Windows in a past beta version. Would you mind sending me through Dropbox any of the videos that you run into this with? Per my understanding, it’s happening to you with any video but we since we aren’t able to locally reproduce it so far, it’d be good to test again with one of your videos. Thank you!

Multiple problems with 3.0.0.2.b (first v3 beta tried):

  1. File Select no longer finds m2ts clips. Most of my archival footage is in this format. Managed to open file manually. (Either drag-n-drop, or enter star-dot-star in the input field.) Please restore all allowable input formats.

  2. Source file info panel wrongly reports interlaced FPS as twice the rate (e.g. 50fps), whereas v2.6.4 reports correct rate (25fps). Then, the deinterlace models say “x2”, which had me worried that it would convert my 25fps/i footage into 50fps/p footage. I think now this means it knows the INPUT is twice the framerate with half the lines, not that the OUTPUT is going to be twice the nominal framerate. This is confusing and I would prefer to revert to v2.6.4 simple labeling. Given you can detect 2x interlaced, I think the best info for the info windows is the nominal framerate with an advisory that it’s interlaced (e.g. “25fps (Interlaced)”.

  3. Model manager is missing. If required model hasn’t been loaded via v2.6.4, there’s no Manager to select it. You have to go back to v2.6.4 and try and figure out if you’ve loaded the correct model/s.

  4. When you set the Models folder manually (not enough room on Drive C), 3.0.0.2.b Beta now adds “models” sub-folder to your folder selection, so it’s now pointing in the wrong place. This causes startup failure. I have temporarily duplicated needed models to “models” sub-folder. The auto-addition to a manual folder selection is not helpful
you’ve already set up a folder yourself, so that’s precisely where you want it. It is ESPECIALLY unhelpful when the software doesn’t tell you that’s what it’s done (your selected folder is displayed as the Data Folder, with out
/models shown), until your next startup reports a big red error box, and forces you to log into your account again.

  5. No matter what I did (interlaced footage, Dione TV model which is what I use most, model downlaoded), Preview and Start Processing always results in “Processing failed”. I turned audio processing Off. Still failed. Set memory to 50%. Still failed. Set to one processor. Still failed. The failure message is almost instant: no advice that model is being loaded or prepped.

  6. The frame-trim feature (not edge trim which I didn’t test) is not working properly. The frame scrub selector is not nearly as sensitive as it was in v2.6.4 and it’s quite clunky and hard to try and select the exact frames. Maybe because a bar has been added to show the Preview frames from the selected point? The manual frame selector boxes seem to be missing. It also doesn’t actually trim when you click the trim button, and it wants to process the entire clip.

  7. The MRF feature is missing from the main “load” panel. Every launch, you have to manually go get the same video file you’ve been working on.

So, I haven’t got to first base with the v3 Beta yet. Looking forward especially to trying out the new stabilizer feature, and testing v3 against v2.6.4 for speed.
.

Feature request for future version - MRF: MRF list via the File menu (File | Recent), so you can easily re-load any of the last nine (or N) input files you’ve been working on, without having to laboriously navigate your library to load it every single time. This is the ONLY app I use (and I use MANY dozens) that doesn’t have one.

Feature request for future version - Force-download model in Model Manager: Model Manager 2.6.4 doesn’t allow you to tick a model and force-download it. I deleted a lot of model files (space at a premium on Models drive), and can’t download the ticked ones again unless I use them in a preview or export. This is tedious. A shortcut menu item off each individual model with “Re-download” option would be great. And auto-detect if any ticked models are missing, and offer to download those. At the moment, force-download is only “EVERYTHING”, which is 100Gb of Model space I don’t have.

Cheers

Thank you for the detailed feedback.

  1. Will add m2ts to the input list.
  2. This is interesting can you upload a sample file. You are right if the input is 25fps/i then the output will be 50fps/p. But I’m not sure that is the case here, so looking at a sample file would help a lot.
  3. Yes, model manager will be added in a few weeks and will have more controls than the current one in 2.6.4. The way models are managed in 2.6.4 and 3.0 are different but same models files are used in both. If the file is not present already the required models are downloaded at runtime.
  4. Currently the required files are not copied over when the data directory is changed, so you will have to copy the contents of the directory c:\Program Data\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Video AI\models to the new model directory. This should fix all the processing error issues.
  5. Copy the contents from old model directory to new one or just reinstall the app.
  6. Trim display is different in 3.0 and once trim has been activated the entire timeline is the trim range, same for previews. WIll add a go to frame eventually.
  7. Yes MRF/projects will be added later.

Force download and cleanup unused model files will be added to model manager.

What are you using to view the files. Currently all the metadata information is copied over from the input to the preview/exported videos. This should not effect the creation or modification date at the OS level. So if you are viewing the files in a video editor it could just be the metadata getting copied over. If it is windows explorer or something then it is an issue that we are not able to reproduce.

Thanks for the quick responses! Follow-up from me

  1. Thanks.
  2. I have uploaded TanzaniaLeopard.m2ts to Dropbox, which is 25fps/1080i. Clip is copyright.
  3. There was no indication that the model was being downloaded at runtime. The failed message appeared almost instantly.
  4. I did not (recently) change the data directory in v2.6.4. And there is no "C:\Program Data\Topaz Labs LLC\Topaz Video AI\models folder as it was moved to a different drive over a year ago. B3 failed to pick up this source directory, and wrongly added “/models” to it when I selected my own models folder manually in B3. It should not add “./models” at all, let alone without telling you. I already said I copied over all the model files to the “./models” folder. It’s not like they are missing, and if they were, then B3 should retrieve them. I don’t get that behaviour. I just get a “fail” on any Preview or Export. If I switch off ALL models and go with JUST plain reproduce, it processes Preview and Export. If I switch on JUST Resize (I use x2), it stops processing on the first frame. If I switch on ANY Delinterlace or Enhance feature, it “fails” altogether. v2.6.4 still works just fine.
  5. Well I just installed B3 (no previous B3) and that was the behaviour, so why would reinstalling it help?
  6. Trim display doesn’t work. When I move the slider and click the trim button (scissors), it picks the whole timeline and doesn’t trim at all. Moving the slider AFTER turning trim on doesn’t do anything, either. It just shows the whole timeline in braces, and there appears to be no furniture for selecting the IN and OUT points. Not working at all.
  7. Thanks re MRF and Models Manager future updates.
