Topaz Video AI v4.0.2

Personally I no longer use the preview since the Live Preview disappeared… I export my video directly and I immediately check the file located in the Temp folder… if the result does not suit me, I stop the export and start again with other settings!

Less annoying, more infuriating when enhancing multiple footage…

Thanks for bringing this up, I can definitely confirm the issue, the only reason I didn’t bring it up, was because I pretty much have given up on trying to get this issue fixed…

But you inspired me to keep bringing this issue up front from now on, as it seems they will only listen when more than a few people bring it up!

As it stands, this program is NOT a viable solution for use at the professional level.

16K video? To me it looks very diffused as if stable diffusion was used, not like something one would expect from a native 16K video file. At best it looks like someone used heavy coating of vaseline on the lens.

I remember getting excited when they added that. I did a lot of testing on all the models. The only one that even kind of might do it is Chronos Fast—but the visual artifacts are extreme.

Anyway, that feature has never done what it says it does. At best it makes the motion blink in and out on sources that don’t have duplicate frames. And well, that’s not desirable.

I have better luck telling ffmpeg to drop frames, but that’s only useful for consistent duplicate frame patterns. If only there were an AI model that could find more random duplicate frames…

Ironically, the interpolation method they have is excellent for PRODUCING both regular intervals, and randomised ones… :confounded: :face_with_spiral_eyes: Before they bust out another model, they should concentrate on squashing bugs with the current ones first!

I reverted to 3.5.4 due to too many ooddities about 4.0.x so far. So someone please correct me if the following has been dealt with in 4.0.2.

I see no option to convert 25 fps material to 75 or 100 fps for us in PAL land. There ARE options for 90 and 120 fps for the 30 fps-ers though. In previous versions not so long ago, you could manually insert your own fps and I could do just that. Not any more (unless fixed in 4.x). This should be fixed pronto (if it hasn’t been).

You can indeed input your desired frame rate, unfortunately, you can only go as far as 75 FPS if you don’t want duplicate frames, which in fact defeats the purpose of interpolation!

You have to take your footages native frame rate, and multiply it by 2, and/or 3, but nothing over that, or else you get duped frames!

Yes, they fixed the dupe bug for beta 3.5.1.0b, but now it’s back with the 4.0 beta/general release, that means you cannot even interpolate above 75 fps with a 25 fps source video, nor can you use the multiply, by up to 3 with the workaround I discovered; I found if you want to interpolate while using DeBlur, or the stabilisation feature, you will have to use this method…

If you want to be able to freely interpolate footage without duplicates, then you’ll have to use beta version 3.5.1.0b, however, you still won’t be able to interpolate while using DeBlur and the stabilisation feature even with that version as they only fixed the interpolation for straight encoding without using DeBlur/Stabilisation, for that, you have to use my workaround.

So the workflow is 3.5.1.0b ⇒ interpolate your desired frame rate and export, ⇒ Import into version 4.0.2 for enhancement, including stabilisation/DeBlur, as you won’t be interpolating frames, so it should be good…

Is there any way in 4.0.2 to just preview my final output while it’s being processed like you could in 3.x?

Most of the time I’m fairly sure of what settings I want to use, and I would simply like to be able to double check everything looks ok AS the final product is being created.

For me, It’s almost always wasted time and effort to create separate previews that will be discarded BY DESIGN before starting on the real thing.

The option should exist at the very least to make it work like 2.x and 3.x with respect to previews.

Not sure whats going on but this version is crashing once I hit preview.
Ill research further
ALSO:
crop outline box on process window still show upper left corner no matter what Ive set it to
if its like last version it processes ok.
and- process window is now a shrunken version of original not scaled equally.

You can proceed as I explained in my last message…

The cropping feature isn’t cropping the source with the preview for some reason. Everything kind of went confusing with the new updates.

That’s a known issue.

I agree, it takes some getting used to the changes.

Thanks. So I have to go to an old beta to avoid this bug? One that isn’t even available in the downloads list, which are supposed to be for General Availability.

Seems that the current versions are pre-betas then. Alphas, as many of us suspected all along! As I don’t use any of what I call fancy enhancements (I can do them far better in Vegas Pro or other software I have) I’ll probably just run the 2x frame rate… twice! Or a 4x slomo in TVAI then changing the frame rate from 25 to 100 fps in Vegas Pro might work, I will test.

Normally Topaz should give all owners of TVAI 4.xxx this workflow when this is really necessary to make a good interpolation without duplicate frames…and directly under the download link of 4.0.2 the downloadlink to 3.5.1.0b.
Yes and when you like to have a framesync preview you need also this Alpha:

“Video Preview not synchron” has been fixed in these Versions:

Topaz Video AI Alpha 3.5.2.0.a

and

Topaz Video AI Alpha 3.5.2.2.a

For unknown reasons, this working fix didn´t even make it to beta yet either.

I think it´s time for some words from the staff of Topaz about all this *#"§&$§!!!

Sorry about that, I would definitely and enthusiastically suggest requesting beta testing status, you would be very glad that you did!

Functionally the general release resembles an alpha, yet strictly speaking it is a general release, but I’m pretty disappointed with it as with everyone else, more so because I love the program so much as I pretty much use it every day!

My major issue is with the interpolation bug, that, and the non-functionality of the remove frames feature, and over blurring artefacts with the stabilisation feature, with the jittery motion and rolling shutter options turned on…

But the good news is that there may be a solution coming!

For the love of god, please remove the “Processing” overlay from previews. Live Preview is a much needed feature and from an user perspective it made no sense removing it.

We need to see what we’re doing and compare that to our original footage while it does its job when launching previews, not stare at a loading screen for 15 minutes that was not there in the previous versions.

Thanks - I slightly cheekily guessed that:
https://downloads.topazlabs.com/deploy/TopazVideoAIBeta/3.5.1.0.b/TopazVideoAIBeta-3.5.1.0.b.msi
would work for that important beta… OOPS SORRY TYPO IN ORIGINAL POST, FIXED NOW!
Do the Alphas you mention avoid the duplicated frames like the beta and would they be preferable?

I currently am using 3.5.1.0b and this is the beta you need if you don’t want dupe’d frames… But you will get duped frames if you use stabilise, and deblur, if you want to use those models, then you will have to take the frame rate of your footage and multiply it by either 2, or 3 and input the sum to be interpolated, but do not multiply by 4, otherwise, dupe’d frames!

Thanks - I’m still looking for a mortified smiley for the typo in the link I posted for the beta…
