I sort of agree, but there’s a problem if you just bought a new license a month ago and you have 11 months of no updates or bug fixes to version 3 or 2. There was no advance warning as far as I know. I think it’s very unlikely that Topaz will release a ‘basic’ version for those users.
I know, everyone has an opinion, no matter how much it sucks. ![]()
Yeah, looks like their interpolation method is STILL duplicating frames… Will wait and see if it actually gets fixed AGAIN for the next beta as promised…
Until then, I suggest using beta vers: 3.5.1.0 in order to interpolate without duplicated frames, and the general release to enhance for export, a complete waste of time for anyone that uses this prog in a professional capacity, or if they want to convert an actual film, as they would have to process the entire film TWICE, once for the frame rate, second for enhancement…
If I allow two processes on my humble laptop, TVAI is using it pretty much at 100%, while a single one is actually not challenging my humble MBP M1 Pro. For this level of hardware I can’t complain.
It’s matter of TOPAZ how they will upset their clients
When upscaling, 100% preview scale only shows 100% of the original size resolution, not the upscaled size resolution. I expected 100% preview scale to be the resolution of the upscaled video, as it was in versions 3.x and earlier. Now I can’t set 100% preview scale in preferences and have the preview scale automatically adjust to the upscaled size. I have to calculate the percent increase and then enter the new value manually, which is so annoying.
I wonder why more users don’t complain about this! Only with full resolution does a preview window make any sense!
I was considering installing 4.x.x, but this bug is a deal breaker. If we can’t preview an upscaled video at full resolution, there’s no point in having a preview.
Hello everyone!
Preview.
I cut off a piece from the main video of ≈ 5 sec, try it on different models and then choose the best model that suits me and turn on export.
I don’t understand why I need a full resolution preview? Suppose your video will be processed for several hours and you will sit and look at the computer screen the whole time? I’m having fun))
What I like best is that I can close the lid of my MBP M1 during processing and then open it after any period of time and continue working without failure. I appreciate this quality much more than the preview. Because the video takes a long time to process. But these are questions for the hardware, not for the program.
Here is the link to the 16K video.
6 sec.-5 Gig. No additional processing.
The timing of the video from Topaz 16K from a DJI drone is 37 sec, takes up 39.5 Gig!
Anyone interested can download and check their computers.
My M1 Pro plays 3 tracks at 37 sec.16K smoothly.
I’ll delete the link in a week.
Good luck to all!!
I’ve watched your result.
It’s quite impressive, but at 16K is mostly generated picture.
8K would’ve been sufficient enough.
I want to see what different settings look like at full resolution before I export. So, on 3.x.x I select a model, click preview, adjust some sliders, preview again, repeat until I have something that I think looks good, maybe add a second model and repeat the process using the preview…and then click export and walk away.
Sometimes I only need the first frame to show up in the preview to know that it’s not what I want and need to make changes. If that single frame can’t display in the preview window at full resolution, It can have issues that I won’t be see until after I have exported and see it at full resolution.
I can accept that Topaz runs slowly (even on strong hardware) as long as the output quality is good. However, the ability to screen various models and settings at full resolution saves a lot of time before starting an export. 3.x.x has this ability so that’s what I’m running. If 4.x.x doesn’t have that functionality, I won’t run it because it will require me to sit at the computer longer than the older version.
Thank you!))
It was just an experiment. I was wondering if it would work or not? It worked, and I was also wondering how my FCPX on MBP M1 Pro would cope with this video. I did fine. Now you don’t have to change your computer for a long time!)) And what about the processing time? Well… We constantly want it to be faster and faster.))
I’m trying v4.0.2 on Macbook M1 Pro MOS 14.1 after a pause of several version. – some observations/suggestions/requests: (some may already be requested)
- Please put a link to a “table of contents” for TVAI documentation on help menu, in addition to the existing link to CLI documentation.
- There is no “table of contents” for TVAI documentation. Please add this as a start page for help documentation. [edit: The Topaz Labs Docs left and right menus show main topics and subtopics, respectively. This takes some getting used to, since the present position in the documentation may not be visible in the left menu/topic list. It would be nice if the left docs menu scrolled automatically to follow the current position in the docs.]
- Please add a list of keyboard shortcuts to documentation, and a link to it from help menu. [edit: Has. anyone compiled a list of keyboard shortcuts?]
- I discovered that keys I and O set in and out points, and shift-right/left jumps to in and out points. Fine. Please add these to documentation and tooltip.
- Play (spacebar) plays the marked loop one time. Is there a toggle for continuous loop playback? If not, please create with a shortcut key (toggle).
- I see there is a “In to Out” choice at the bottom of the Preview duration dropdown. I suggest that this be automatically set if a loop is defined and user hasn’t already set a specific preview duration.
- Is there a shortcut key for start Preview? [edit: Found it: ⌘P]
- If in/out loop is not defined, and the user sets the in point (I key), I suggest that the out point automatically be set at the current Preview duration. (saves some mouse clicks to define a loop)
- If a loop is defined, and Preview duration has not been set by user, then “In to Out” becomes the default Preview duration.
- Add an option to automatically set loop points at the current timeline position (in) and out at in-point plus the default Preview duration.
----- edit: additional comments, probably already noted by others ------ - When Preview 10 frames completes processing, the first frame of the preview is a duplicate of the second preview frame. Ie. the first frame of preview is not shown. For example: for Preview on frames 10 to 19 - the resulting preview actually shows frames 11, 11, 12, 13, …, 18, 19. This hop from frame 9 to 11 is clearly visible if the original video is shown beside the processed preview (all original frames show correctly).
- when in/out loop is set to the Preview frames and cursor position is at the in point, the first press of Play (spacebar) doesn’t work. The second press does work. This pattern repeats.
- When making a first Preview on a new video, the processed video is shown in both left {1} and right {2} preview windows. Please keep the left preview {1} on the original video and show the processed video on the right {2},
I run a Mac Studio Ultra with 48 core GPU and 128GB of RAM. V2 continues to work. V4 simply says “error” in red on the screen with every preview attempt. I have tried numerous sources and formats and have downloaded all updates but the result is always the same. Please post a fix.
You can view at full resolution, but you need to enter the correct percentage. It’s easy if you Upscale x2 or Upscale x4. Just use 200% and 400%. You’ll see full resolution. But if you upscale to anything else, you’ll need to calculate the increase and enter that manually. If you upscale x3, then you would need to enter 300% manually since there is no 300% in the drop down list.
Hello,
Could you send us an email at help@topazlabs.com with the full log files from the app?
To gather logs, please select Help > Logging and make sure that there is a check mark next to File Logging. Next, recreate the issue and then return to the Help menu and select > Get Logs for Support and attach the “logsForSupport” file to your reply.
I decided never to switch to Version 4.x.x.x ever and stick to Version 3.5.4. However this update has changed all of that. While there may be some bugs (which currently doesn’t bother me at all) but I am loving this update and it has fixed most of the issues for me. Infact this version gives me enough reasons to switch from version 3.5.4 to version 4 once and for all. Good Job
This sounds counterintuitive. I want 100% of the resolution I am previewing.
So if I crop a 16:9 720p rectangle out of a 1080p video and then select 1080p for the output resolution, I want to preview the cropped video at 100% (1080p)
This is very easy to preview in 3.x.x.
What you are describing sounds like I’m asking the preview window to blow up the video before all of the processing I want to see. (because after the processing, I expect 100% to equal the export resolution)
Version 4.0.2. doesnt work at all. I only get error messages. How do I get to a previous version?
