Maybe you’re right. I can only talk about what is happening on my computer with the Topaz program. Personally, I am satisfied with everything in my tests.
On the lower end M1/M2 base configurations the speed hit was a bit less than on the Pro/Max/Ultra variants.
In general TVAI doesn’t scale well with multiple GPU/CPU cores if you look at the performance of M1/2 Max vs. Ultra variants.
Well, at least you can use the system fully normal while encoding long jobs - something you can’t really say about the Windows version.
I still fear that we will have to turn the page with certain old hardware for the AVX/AVX2… (oops…there are some who will hate me):
"Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) is an instruction set of the Intel and AMD x86 architecture, offered by Intel in March 2008. It is supported by Intel Sandy Bridge processors and by AMD Bulldozer processors in 2011. AVX offers new features, new instructions and a new “VEX” coding scheme.
AVX2 expands most 128-bit SSE and AVX commands to 256-bit1. It is supported by Intel Haswell processors in 2013 and by AMD Excavator processors in 2015."
It’s 2023. I’ve still been using the same PC for 4 years. We will see when AVX 512 will be mandatory…
Thank you for YOUR feedback and comments!
The program is crashing for me when trying to open an 8.65 GB uncompressed AVI file. The same file opens file on version 2.6.4 with no issues. It never actually opens the file…just crashes while trying to open it.
Codec : 32 bits RGB (RV32)

One of the big persistent complaints about TVAI over the years is how slow it is. Requiring AVX2 can only help speed it up. Whether by leveraging AVX2 or by running on a computer that’s new enough to have it. I’m not trying to be heartless about those that would need a computer upgrade, because they don’t.
Apparently there are ways to run AVX2 applications on CPUs that don’t have it. Of course it runs much slower than the built-in AVX2. If your computer was running TVAI slow, it will still run it slow with the AVX2 workarounds. You’re not out anything.
Topaz really needs a 2nd computer with a 4090 that goes 24/7
I have that. Works geat
Update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 without any problem on my Windows11 PC.
Performance is the same as before. Works as indicated with release notes.
Only one issue at the moment with crop in preview:
The selected crop is not shown in preview window, but correctly processed in export.
It is true that TVAIE is sadly slow but I find that compared to previous versions the quality of the results is there and it is still my priority.
Without AVX/AVX2, I can’t imagine the increase in processing times during memory/CPU/GPU exchanges on large volumes of data such as in video… from what I’ve read.
next, I’m not heartless but I don’t think it’s a good idea to ask programmers for several programs (with or not AVXx), since with just one it’s not easy… Well, I’m going back to my videos. Sorry.
Hello,
Could you send us an email at help@topazlabs.com with the full log files from the app?
To gather logs, please select Help > Logging and make sure that there is a check mark next to File Logging. Next, recreate the issue and then return to the Help menu and select > Get Logs for Support and attach the “logsForSupport” file to your reply.
Sure thing. I’ve got an export with another file running at the moment and I believe the logs have been overwritten, so once it’s done I’ll repeat the process of the file that crashes and send the log.
So again no upgrade… if we all protest should engineering not sent out a communication to the community i belief something has to happen i am already afraid to try any new version.
Well spoken well said and sadly when licenses do not get renewed the regression of the product will only accelerate i am afraid.
so you loved 4.0.1 and 4.0.2 is good with preview ?
All I said is that 4.0.2 made the job I used it to do
Logs sent.
Technology doesn’t stand still, and if they need to upgrade their hardware to meet the requirements, so be it.
TBH it amazes me some of the low end specs people are even attempting to run this on. The glacial speeds they are getting would force me to either upgrade (I did that) or quit using it. I’m never waiting more than 8 hours to process something.
And don’t even get me started on people insisting on using laptops for this.
David i know man these people are insufferable man i swear. Topaz is a small team of people they should just go use another program and leave the forums
I suggest for those users not in position to upgrade technology in sync with TVAI evolution to stay with v3 or v2.
Perhaps TOPAZ can offer a separate TVAI Basic with less function but without bugs, and continue KI development with TVAI PRO (but userfriendly UI, and less bugs when finally released).
Some lively responses here, but I’m going to stay away from attacking other users…
Thoughts - currently v4 is reported to run fine if you don’t have AVX2 but have a RTX graphics card. It would seem reasonable, if this were the case, that people with upgrade support could be allowed to install and run it.
In the future if they think AVX2 will be essential then they may well want to stop new purchasers without AVX2, so they don’t get disappointed with a lot of upgrade time left (although v4 has only just appeared and v3 was fine without AVX2, so people may have 11 months of upgrades they can’t use).
There are people here without AVX2 but with multi-RTX cards, so not having it doesn’t assume a low-end spec…
Heck I have a N100 system (a teeny and very cool NUC-alike) with AVX2 that should run it, but at probably 1/20th (or maybe much less) the speed of my desktop system with its 3.9GHz CPU and RTX card…
P.S. In case anyone is wondering I paid £199 for my quite tiny Trigkey G5 box (which I REALLY wouldn’t recommend for TVAI) with:
CPU: Intel N100
DRAM: 16GB DDR5
Disk: 512GB NVMe v1.4 PCIe SSD
Disk: Empty internal bay for 2.5" SATA SSD
Ethernet: Dual 2.5GHz (Intel I225-V controller)
USB: 3.2 Gen 2 to 3 x USB-A and 1 x USB-C, the latter also with 4k/60 video-out support (note “USB 3.2 Gen 2” is identical to both “USB 3.1 gen 2” and “USB 3.1 SuperSpeed Plus” at 10Gbps max)
WiFi: WiFi 6 (Intel AX101)
Bluetooth: v5.2 (Intel)
HDMI: Dual v2.0 both supporting 4k/60p *
Operating system: Win 11 Pro
PSU: 36W UK 3-pin plug
Misc: 1 fan (some similar units have 2, but with this CPU I doubt you care)
- I believe the N100 supports HDMI 2.1 but I’ve seen 2.0 stated in several places so am going with it, I haven’t tested it. (I’ve tested everything else to confirm the spec.)
