Topaz Video AI Beta 6.0.1.0.b

Hello everyone,

Today we are publishing a new beta update to Video AI, version 6.0.1.0.b.

6.0.1.0.b

  • Included a “force CFR” (Constant Frame Rate) setting in encoder options.
  • Added a new feature to compare tabs in single view mode via a tab option.
  • Fixed stabilization filter bug where enabling jittery motion does not update filter correctly.
  • Prevented model parameters from resetting when navigating to the export page.
  • Added a display for elapsed time in export items.
  • Fixed crop display bounds during zooming by ensuring the display area always aligns with the video view.
  • Moved the status label and added an estimated time for preview.
  • Brought back tooltips for view mode buttons.

Known issues:

  • Enabling “force CFR” option will potentially cause issues in the exported videos such as duplicate frames, missing frames, or frames in wrong order.

The team is eager to hear your thoughts on the new design, and as always, thanks for being part of the Topaz Video AI Community.

TVAI_TRIAL_ALLOWED is working correctly now! That’s all I need.

Nope. Not seeing them. I hovered over them for more than a few seconds:

This is after more than 10 seconds with the cursor not moving over the ‘rectangle’ button.

Davinci Resolve Studio 19.1.2 crashes and cannot be launched when using the TVAI 6.0.1.0b plug-in.
By disabling the TVAI 6.0.1.0b plug-in, Davinci Resolve Studio 19.1.2 launches normally.
When the TVAI 6.0.1.0b plug-in is enabled, a dialog box always appears stating “There are OpenFX plug-ins that cannot be used.”
When will the Davinci Resolve OpenFX plug-in be able to be used normally?
Has development of the Davinci Resolve OpenFX plug-in ended?

Well, I thought I’d try this beta. Source video was a 15 minute mp4 from my wedding. De-interlaced from the old interlaced DV file.

Ran a simple stabilization: two pass, full frame, jitter compensation on: no upscaling, original pixels - only stabilization, so far as I can tell from the UI.

Tried twice. System crashed twice. Crashed as in system shut down completely - all apps gone, system powered down. Required power switch to reboot.

System is an Intel Mac mini with a RX 5700 XT eGPU. System has 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD, Sequoia 15.2 with all updates. Works perfectly with all my other photo and video apps. I guess next I’ll try the release version to see if it works.

Logs attached.

The design still looks like a mock-up for a quick GUI as a placeholder for the models…

That’s what an art design Dept is for, not for developers doing double duty, when they should be working on improving current, and new models…

I mean, LOOK at the incredible tech that’s going into TPAI’s face repair!

ORIGINAL SIZE_(130x157)_ jpeg 72% quality

ENHANCED SIZE/REPAIR_(780x942)_png 16 bit

I mean, come ON, the tech’s there, it’s just that it’s being ignored in favour of that damned UI that still looks like a placeholder…

THIS could be iris!

EDIT: I bloody despise this new UI, mainly because it’s taking precedence over what made Topaz so great in the first place!

Do you have tooltips enabled in preferences settings?

This beta has a regression bug - TEMP wipe, again.

I do now. Shouldn’t that have been the first thing asked when I made a bug report for this?

I had turned that option off to not see the little sample videos of the AI models. Those don’t even seem to exist anymore. Anyway, I find that odd/unexpected that tooltips made it behind an option in preferences, but ‘open preview folder’ just got removed. Who makes these decisions, and why are they trusted within Topaz? I think the community of customers has made it as clear as they can that that person is not trusted out here.

Take onboard all the hate that the new interface is getting and make the old interface an option. There are people actively searching for alternative software because of the hash you have made of the UI and how hard you have made it to run a batch of jobs.

WHAT?

That is incredibly impractical, this UI is a rotting albatross hanging on topaz’s neck!

I ask, “what” as I cannot even run the program due to this cursed UI, so I wouldn’t know…

I bet it’s corporate/marketing, as those departments are well known to disrupt a company’s progress… I will not be surprised when Topaz finally goes public, then all bets are off!

Not only that, but I’m grateful to Videoproc, as an alternative, as they just introduced face reconstruction models as well, and UNLIKE Topaz, they don’t charge us for annual updates to the program.

They also don’t lock out users with random/mandatory online authentication.

Videoproc’s face reconstruction:

Topaz is clearly an ideal result, however, the videoproc result was from their FIRST iteration of the models within the product…

My guess is that, it simply comes down to greed being the idiotic and short-sighted motivation with this company… the only way things will change is when we QUIT spending hundreds on their greedy, update requirements, I know that’s what I will be doing…

I squarely put the responsibility of my no longer paying into this company on corporate/marketing, as the developers/researchers/and all teams not involved with corporate/marketing over-stepping their bounds are the only bright light about topaz, as they continue to make their program the best in their field…

I would love to be a rival company, as I would legit try to snag the developers/researchers and other teams not fuelled by childish, greed away from the corpos/marketing currently stagnating this program!

Scrolling on the timeline is still messed up. Zooms in/out too much

The exported video is stuttering.
Tried several sources and export formats.
Even tried to turn on/off constant framerate.

And I get the Topaz logo when using the Rhea XL model

When loading a file through avisynth and avfs. The thumbnail generation is still lagging my computer. Probably because of all the avisynth filters. Any way to get an option to disable the thumbnails ?

Sounds like the dreaded duplicate frames bug is back…

Don’t know about that bug. But I’m noticing the video jumping a bit.
It’s like when you try to deinterlace and choose the wrong field.

When working with the 5 versions and the Iris and Rhea models, the frame rates changed several times. The original video had 50 fps, which should also be the result. However, the result displayed values just above 50 fps, e.g. 50.001 fps. Is this the error that should be fixed with the new CFR option or is it a different error?

I wish I could test it out to be certain, but the thrice cursed UI won’t work on my system, so I cannot test it, I would suggest that you open the finished video in VirtuaDub 2 and advance the video frame-by-frame to see if there’s any duplicate frames, although there’s a better way to test via FFMPEG through the command line, but I am not well versed with the commands…

Bonus points, Virtuadub 2 has a plugin you can download to remove duplicate frames, but it depends on the video’s format/codec that it was encoded in, in that case, all you need to do is export the video using FFMPEG/Huffyuv codec and reimport it to remove the duplicate frames.

Unfortunately, it won’t play smoothly as the duplicate frames generated by that F***in’ bug are generated in such a way that its removal disrupts the frame progression, so it will remain somewhat choppy.

The thing about beta testing the models is that too often you have to re-test for the same bugs as they will eventually be reintroduced due to most likely outsourced dev teams that don’t know the program as well as the in-house developers…

I haven’t confirmed this as I don’t work at Topaz, yet it’s the only thing that makes sense and also because it’s common to hire outsourced dev teams in order to cut costs, to get more profit.

Unfortunately it seems as though the bloody program gets rebuilt from scratch every time a new beta comes out, at least that’s what it seems like, as old bugs crop up and UI components continually goes missing every other beta, so it’s pretty much a cynical theory of mine not based in verifiable fact.

EDIT: On second thought, with the alpha 5.3.0.1 (Or was it alpha 5.3.4.0?) Iris has a bug that scrambles the frame progression, and I’m wondering if that made it into the current beta, as that would not surprise me…

MacOS

There are several GUI issues
Importing multiple files is not possible selecting them with Option-A in the import window, I do have to select them with the mouse and shift. Not Mac like
Copy/paste of settings does not work. Paste does not copy manual settings, they stay empty

Its not possible to paste settings on multiple source files

Starting an export job, then going back to another source, change settings, going back to look at the export shows empty window. Export is still running, but cant see it

Switching to export windows with multiple files, scrolling down…scrolls down too much, showing nothing, empty

Rendering preview zooms back to default 1:1. Would like to have it zoomed (splits window ) to compare that zoomed in bit

Right mouse click on rendered source shows original, bug or feature ? Nice for a compare, but a bit annoying when just trying to move the zoomed picture

Export has faulty audio. First audio track is just a constant hight pitched sound, other audio tracks work

There are several issues since V6. U are doing great work with Topaz, but since V6 the Ui is a bit too buggy
