Topaz Video AI 7.0.2

just a small remark, no offense meant. Do you really have 5:4 content, I always turn 4:3 content from 720x576 into 768x576 first. Something I noticed with Starlight mini, the square pixel function is always grayed out, well i don’t care i don’t use them anyway.

I am curios too. Trying to run more than one process slows the original one to 0.1 fps and the second one never starts or I wasn’t patient enough to wait more than 15 minutes. I tried with 70% memory up to 90%. So my average is between 0.7fps and 0.9fps, at best, with a single process, depends on the input.

The machine is used exclusively by TVAI. The GPU is tweaked with MSI Afterburner which keeps the temperature around 60C max and the power usage below 400W. Speaking of temperatures, it seems like the machine seems to be under less stress using SLm compared with Rhea. The machine is liquid cooled with 3 radiators and 6 fans.

Here is my finished run of Ghost in the Shell PS1 intro using Starlight Mini

Original video is in 720P and only 30mb

Took 9+ hours to process using an RTX 4070 Super paired with a ryzen 3600.
Was rendering at 0.1 FPS
New video is completed in 2K and honestly has never looked better.
The new video is 550mb now.

I think there is some weird text being made on the goggle thing here and there.

FYI The video is better on my computer due to Youtubes compression. Only slightly more defined I’d say and much less blocky.

For a future update can we get an extra digit for rendering videos
e.g. instead of it being 0.1 fps show 0.10 fps or 0.13 fps so we know if its fluctuating doing different tasks.

They have this error since countless versions now for stabilization models as well as for Artemis-Aliasing & Moire, no one cares, do not even bother to get an answer to that.
For 5070 cards at least you will never be able to download all models as of now…since x versions users report that. What happened? Absolutely nothing

It’s true that it refers to tests on games. But it can give a basic idea of the card’s performance.

The problem is that if you have 720x576 videos that you convert to 768x576, you flatten the video a little. Because you were stretching it along its length. I prefer to leave the ratio of the original.

When its from a DVD made for 4:3 play, the DVD player strechts the compressed content on the disc from 5:4 (720x576) to 4:3 and this is the same what you do by stretching to 768, more about here

but if left/on the right are bars, do not remove them without cropping top/buttom and stretch to 4:3 or 16:9, these bars could belong to the content, then it could be you stretch the picture too wide. I mention this because I have already made the mistake

I tried SLm on a 576p clip. I got 0.8 fps. I then tried on a 480p clip and also got 0.8 fps. When I tried it on a 320p clip, it went down to 0.5 fps. It seems, on my setup, that the sweet spot is a 640p clip, where I consistently get 1.2 fps. Why, I could not tell you.

Don’t worry, I know all about that. This isn’t my first rodeo on the subject.

I’ve just noticed a small bug with StarLight Mini. It doesn’t render the whole sequence.
Example:
If I have a video that is 18 seconds and 13 tenths long, the StarLight Mini renderer will render a video that is 18 seconds and 12 tenths long.

Here’s the difference between the original on the left and StarLight mini on the right, as seen by Media Info.

Here too there is a much more precise difference.

Starlight MIni always drops the first frame, I’m used to it.
It’s annoying, but not crucial to my workflow.

Yes the drop one frame still exists, also orig/preview window when you compare is one frame shifted and there is a slightly color shift with Starlight mini to yellow tone, but happens not for every source…by the way, we should test our friend VFR and interpolation again, if really everything is fixed.

Oh goodness, we should. I’ll be it’s still there in some form or situation.

Agreed. I’ve been on v.5.3.6 forever.

I noticed when black bars are in the signal source starlight increases brightness along the right edge of the picture. It’s pretty noticeable in dark scenes. Easy fix is to crop and it’s fine. Sharing so people don’t waste cycles. Oddly does not do so on the left side.

It’s possible to execute runner.exe from the command line. For example, here’s a batch file I’m using to batch process all .mkv files in an input directory, running each one through Starlight Mini.

I’m not sure what’s happened with the loading of Starlight Mini since this update v7.0.2, but the model just stays saying “Loading Model…” and did that for 4hrs straight.
I uninstalled the software and redownloaded most of the models but I noticed that Starlight Mini doesn’t bring up that “window” (where it scans your system for compatibility) to download the model files, so now I can’t redownload/install the SLMini files?

I’m a bit confused of what’s happened.

Try a complete removal of Topaz video. Topaz puts files all over the place in multiple locations. Make sure to go into your c drive or wherever and search for “topaz”. Remove anything that says Topaz. Then try a fresh reinstall.
