Topaz Video AI 6.1.2 + 6.1.3

That is incorrect.

This release is just broken all the way around.

1.Playing back a rendered preview…Broken
Once you render, lets say a 5 second preview and play it back. It wants to keep rendering after you hit play and the video just studders.
2. The reorganization of the export que and the sources tab.
At least let me completely close out the “source video” from the “export que” tab. Instead I have to go to the source video tab to completely close the video. The two tabs are redundant.
3. Let me “pause all” and render all from my que. Instead I have to choose one by one.

Any update on a fix for the motion artifacts and flickering with fast movement when using Starlight?

I stumbled upon an interesting preset while experimenting, it does only 1x on 360p (I wish I could upscale it at a given resolution JUST AFTER applying 1x RHEA v1, but, alas, one can dream!). Please try the preset on destroyed lowres video!

The name of the preset comes from the old Polish documentary about North Korea by Andrzej Fidyk, ‘Defilada’ (eng. ‘The Parade’). I have it in awful 360p FLV-compressed format.

Nice uplift in 360p quality, funnily enough Rhea v1 is better at 1x, than 4x…

Is that Korean Elon next to Kim Ir Sen dictator?

Gotta love, what Iris LQ v2 did to poor Kim Ir Sen. A couple of frames later he transforms into J.D. Vance…:

Oh. Is that Nicolas Cage?

Hello, Officer Tenpenny! [GTA San Andreas] Or is it Lionel Richie?

These results are actually not that bad!

Curious:

Yes, preview playback in VEAI 6.1.3 really gets on one’s nerves. So much, that I sometimes still prefer experimenting on v5.0.4 until v6.1.x gets fixed.

Rhea is very bad specially on faces when they are difficult to recognize and there is too little information. Rhea can invent new things that isn’t there, specially RheaXL. This can turn into negative as well as positive. With faces it is bad. With some patterns or textures it can be brilliant. Well, it doesn’t have to correspond then exaclty to reality anymore

Then Iris enhances the effect, because it reconstructs already diorted faces and you get new peoples or aliens

Although simillar but much better, you can seen it on Starlight, for example it produces also Alien fonts like RheaXL. So I’m just speculating that Starlight is the further development of RheaXL, maybe they stopped fixing/improving RheaXL because of Starlight? That’s why I have my doubts they will give us a local version of Starlight

Still some wierd motion flickering going on in this sample. While aliasing is reduced in straight line areas, the moire on the green ribbon is still prevalent and noticeable.

Yes, I have the same experience.
Very LQ sources with small faces can benefit quite a lot from a Rhea 1x pass (similar to Iris LQ V1) as this avoids those creepy monster faces and also those ugly repetitive patterns.

This may have been fixed but not mentioned since I am running 6.1.0 because of problems with preview running anything above.
However, If I trim a video then do an export but the codec audio is set to ‘copy’, this throws up an audio error in the queue, changing the audio to ‘convert’ then throws up a video error and I can’t encode anything from that point onwards, even restarting the program will not allow me to encode. The only thing that works is signing out of my windows user then logging back in. I can then encode providing I don’t trim anything with audio set to ‘copy’.

I think Starlight is finally starting to improve and address the added over contrast and over sharpness a bit more. Can anybody on the AI research team confirm if the Starlight model has changed it’s parameters to account for this, and if the motion flickering/ghosting is currently being looked at and something that can be fixed?

There’s an issue with lip movement synchronization. The further away a face is, the more misaligned the lip movements become with the audio track, whether it’s for speaking or singing. Implementing a feature similar to what Runway uses for generating lip movement from audio could help address this problem. Ensuring the lip movements follow the audio pattern more accurately.

I must have missed something. How do you stop or pause a process in 6.1.3? I don’t see where anymore for either a preview or export. The pics show where I’m looking.
M3M fully loaded OS 14.7.4
Thanks in advance!
***Apparently those capabilities went away a while back I have just learned. Why?

Also, in Split View and Side by Side view the fames still don’t align making it relatively impossible to compare frames and see what Topaz is doing. This is infuriating. Because to my eye it looks like nothing is happening when I enhance. But I can’t tell because the frames don’t align. Also, changing the Workspace location doesn’t “take” and always goes back to its default which is my internal, causing unnecessary wear and tear to the pricey beast. Is there a fix for this that I’ve missed. I did search but haven’t found anything.

Just moved from 5.x.x to this version and I’m already considering reverting back after less than 2 minutes…

Was “drag and drop” removed or do I need to find a specific place/mode/tab/combination of circumstances to be able to drag a movie into the program now?

And when I try to play a 5 second test render, the program starts rendering parts of the video I never asked it to render…causing the playback to stop and start as it does work I didn’t ask it to do.

I’m fine with the software taxing my PC when I ask it to do intensive tasks, but playing back video that has already been rendered isn’t difficult. -Yet this version has found a way to make simple video playback difficult.

Is there a way to stop this behavior?

Let’s talk about Proteus. Some comparison beween V3 and V4 shows V4 removes more details. So my comparisons can confirm this, but it’s because Proteus V4 does model built-in more denoise than V3

Denoise does always lowering physical details, but sometimes it can also bring more viewable content when it was hidden by noise. When model manages to recognize and reconstruct the structures that are covered by noise then you have the optimum. Rhea does this better than Proteus, but unfortunately with the disadvantage that the image content can loose his naturalness because lack of reconstruction abilty. So denoise level and keeping details are still a compromise.

a lot would be gained if the user could draw into the windows and say TVAI which noise should be removed and as more often you do this on different scenes, as better gets the result over the full video.

Thats another thing I noticed as well.

So far I haven’t figured a way to stop it. Lots of people are giving the same feedback.

Actually the work around to play the preview properly is apparently to close Enhancements. Haven’t tried it because I read another member’s comment about that.

Working with 6.1.3 on my M4 Pro Mini…(MAX CONFIG) seems GPU is not 100% addressed and also the MEMORY always stays BELOW 32GB…

I tried several exports even with RHEA model and even then the 64GB of my system is NOT used…always it stays at MAX 32GB…

Is there a way to turn off the generation of the .png thumbnails found in the VAI Project Workspace folders? From my perspective I see them as a tax on my system to run the software.

Thanks, but I already switched back to 5. I’ll just stay on 5 until 6 (possibly) gets sorted.

I am used to bugs and odd behavior, but the two that I noticed with this version were instantly obvious and persistent. -as if these issues are “features” intentionally baked into the software rather than “bugs”.

I hear you. Thinking about going back a few steps myself.

Ah, the (in)famous Rhea face hallucinations.
Rhea is so bad at the compressed low-res videos that I don’t even bother using it. Rhea is for good quality input, like SD files AVI-DV.
Even though I need to deinterlace input in Hybrid beforehand.
