Topaz Video AI 2024 Roadmap

Hi everyone,

We’re publishing an overall Roadmap update for the rest of 2024. We have several large projects for the rest of the year that we’re very excited to show you:

  1. New mpv-based video player

One of our main goals for the rest of 2024 is to increase video player performance. Moving to a new player that is GPU-accelerated and capable of smoothly playing two high-resolution videos for comparison. This new player also enables us to accurately display output from our next big model project…

  1. Hyperion SDR-to-HDR model

We strongly believe that HDR media is the next frontier for video enhancement, and that the large influx of consumer displays that support high dynamic range will lead to massive demand for easy, automatic conversion of SDR content for these displays. Beta users currently have access to the first build of Hyperion, and we plan to continue evolving the model leading up to release later this year.

  1. Rhea v2

Our latest Enhancement model, Rhea, is the largest Video AI model to date. We plan to continue training and refining this model with a v2 release that is further optimized for quality and speed.

  1. Model discovery & timeline navigation improvements

Making more users aware of the different models bundled within Video AI is a priority for us, and our design team is currently working with select users to find ways to make the model testing and comparison process even smoother.

In addition to these changes, we are also working to make the app’s timeline more functional with thumbnails and accurate ‘ticks’ to allow for frame-precise navigation and trimming.

Sería muy útil el que hubiese la opción de poner la interface en Español ya que me facilitaría muchísimo su utilización. Supongo que un parche de este estilo sería facil para ustedes.

Muchas gracias

It would be very useful if there was the option to put the interface in Spanish since it would make it much easier for me to use. I suppose a patch like this would be easy for you.

Thank you so much

Any idea when Rhea v2 will be released? For my source Rhea v1 is by far the best. If Rhea v2 actually improves the quality and it’s faster then I’m all for it!

I would like there to be an option for either an increase in quality or an increase in speed. This is because I tend to care more about the quality than the speed due to how I process a lot of my projects while I sleep.

I hate to be this guy, but who cares about rhea v2? the real question is, when was the last Proteus update and when will be the next one?

I would like this too to be honest.

Rhea v2 (or something that can be thought of as Rhea v2) is currently under development. It will likely be a few more weeks, or likely months until it is released to the public.

The last Proteus update was near the end of 2023/beginning of 2024. To my knownledge there are no public details on when the next Proteus update will be released, or if a new one will be developed at all.

I would hope that we can get an option for the models to either prioritize speed or quality because of how we prioritize different things and have different hardware. For example, I tend to process my videos overnight, so quality is more of a priority for me.

Rhea V2, the End of this Year is Near

What do you hope the improvement in it will be?

better trained model, better face recovery, better denoise, a bit "smoother fewer “thick edges” a bit more of Iris, not only 4x optimized

Personally, I like the 4x upscaling optimization, but I do agree that it needs some better face recovery, denoising, and smoothing. Personally, I also hope that there can be a way that a model can utilize more of my available VRAM on my RTX 4070 Ti.

Any plans on adding raw formats to TVAI? I work with raw footage most of the time

Love the software and am continuing to learn how to use it. One major problem though. Using this on my desktop computer, it fails to complete any task telling me that I need to update the driver on my NVIDIA graphics card. Well … I’ve got the newest driver. I tried changing a number of settings hoping to overcome this, but it simply won’t work. So I’ve had to do this on my (much slower) laptop. Oh well, I’ll keep looking for updates. Perhaps the problem will eventually go away.

Welcome Craig, which graphic card do you have?

NVIDIA Quadro P620

It’s a OpenGL card most used for CAD. Topaz is optimized for DirectX “Gamer” cards. The p620 has low RAM (2MB max 4 MB) and GPU is large behind a entry GeForce RTX460. Even if it works with a other released driver, it wouldn’t be fun.

I really recommend an RTX, even if it’s just the 460 or the 470 has a good price/performance ratio, if you can call it that, then unfortunately, graphics card prices have skyrocketed in the last few years. Before you buy one, check whether there is a power connection for a graphics card in you’re PC and how many watts your power supply has.

I’m pretty confident that TVAI has been built from the start, to be used on videos that are far past the raw footage stage. I’m just saying it’s unlikely that raw footage will ever be possible to be an output option in TVAI.
