Topaz Studio | Transition Questions

Hi.

Here’s the original email sent out by Eric Yang
CEO, Topaz Labs

Thanks for being a founding customer.

I’m reaching out with exciting news. On September 16, we’re launching Topaz Studio, a subscription collection of all our apps. Studio will include 7 products, over 100 image/video AI models, unlimited cloud image processing, and local processing.

Since you already have two or more products with active upgrades, you’ll be upgraded to Topaz Studio for free on Sept 16.

View my free upgrade

As a founding customer, you can expect the following:

  • Your perpetual licenses remains yours forever.

  • As long as you maintain 2+ active upgrade licenses:

    • You’ll receive Topaz Studio at no additional cost - including 4 new products, unlimited cloud processing for image (non-batch), and video credits.
    • You get grandfathered local access to the Starlight models (for video) and the new Wonder AI model (for image).
    • Your prices are locked in as long as your plan remains active.

By keeping your existing upgrade licenses, you get more features for 50-70% less than new customers after Sept 16.

The move to subscription

We believe in building AI tools that enhance rather than replace your workflow — AI models that run locally, preserve creative intent, and produce high-res production-grade results.

In service of that, in 2025 we’ve released dozens of new models like Astra, Bloom, Recover, and Starlight. Many of these were technical breakthroughs for image/video enhancement that haven’t been replicated anywhere else.

But each new release came with an asterisk: some customers benefited and others didn’t, depending on the individual product purchased. This didn’t sit right — we’d much rather that more people have access to all our models. Launching the Studio subscription gives more people access to our technology and keeps us focused on driving faster improvements.

We wanted founding customers to receive the best possible outcome from the change. The September 16 release will include some of our strongest new AI models yet. Thank you so much for using our products, and we’ll be back in touch in two weeks with access to your new products.

With appreciation,

105xauto

Apologies for the delay

Here’s a link from Topaz with the information you need to activate your Auto-Renewal Subscription

Hope this helps

Hello. Can you help me? I had all Topaz apps before Studio, but only Photo AI and GigaPixel AI with active Upgrade (atm till 12 July 2026). With the transition you wrote me that keepiing alive Upgrades on GiggaPixel and Photo AI also nexxt year I should be OK with Topaz Studio, but now I see a 399$ renew on 12 July 2026. Is it an error? What should I do? Thanks

I got a response from Ida, the support manager.
The Founding Customer status applies to all applications if the customer qualified for Topaz Studio. On the other hand, if someone only owned Video AI, they would only be a Founding Customer for Topaz Video, not Topaz Photo, etc.

So the key is if you owned two+ apps, you would have qualified for Topaz Studio and get Founding Customer status for all 3 apps.

Also, all users of Topaz Video in Studio get access to Starlight and Starlight Sharp with Cloud rendering, whether they are a Founding Customer or not. If you are a Founding Customer, then you get local rendering as well.

Hi - I reported this bug but I have had no reply or indication that it is being addressed.
I am a subscriber to photo AI and video ai and I have downloaded and activated the studio versions. When I go offline I can use Photo Ai with no problems. However when I try to use Video ai 1.0.0 offline it doesn’t show me as being logged in and the subscription window pops up. Could someone please confirm that this is only a bug and video ai 1.0.0 will be able to be used offline. I checked again today and it still doesn’t recognise my subscription when offline and the purchase box comes up. Thanks

You mean the dashboard that shows that i now only have Gigapixel AI and not Video AI or Photo AI. The confusion continues.

During the transition process, all your other subscriptions bar one get cancelled, and the remaining one turns into Topaz Studio.

I think they’re running batch scripts in two passes, and that’s why this is taking so long. The first pass cancels all your other subscriptions, and the next pass converts the remaining subscription into Topaz Studio.

A suggestion, not a criticism: You’re mixing apples with oranges. To avoid confusion, I’d recommend that you become accustomed to using the correct names to distinguish the Studio versions of the apps from the perpetual versions. (See the bold & italicized names quoted above from your post)

So that everyone can keep things straight, be aware that Topaz Labs have removed the “AI” suffix from all 3 apps in naming the new Studio versions.

Thus, they become:

  • Topaz Photo
  • Topaz Gigapixel
  • Topaz Video

And they have all started out in life as versions 1.0.0

Therefore, there is no such thing as “Video ai 1.0.0” as you have called it.

I’m not trying to be a wiseguy or nit-pick - Topaz have made things very confusing during this transition period and I think it’s wise to try to keep the names straight in my head so that it’s clear what I’m talking about when citing app names and version numbers.

BYW I dropped Adobe products … I was a loyal customer for well over 20 years. For what I do almost as important as the program itself was the perpetual licence… now I regret buying a year of updates a few months ago.

Here is an update. I have been checking my Subscriptions page everyday and today it changed again.

It now says that I have the Topaz Studio - Annual and that my credit card will be charged in 10/2026 for $163 + tax. Topaz cancelled my PAI and GAI subscriptions. If this holds then it looks good.

My Photo AI is just up for license renewal. If I renew, will I get a year of Topaz Photo at the renewal price?

Hi.

If your current Licence hasn’t expired then, you need to activate the Auto-Renewal Subscription so, you’re have the best possible chance of getting Topaz Photo fixed at your current Licence price for as long as you maintain your Auto-Renewal Subscription here’s a link explaining how to do this.

If your Topaz Photo AI has expired already and you didn’t have Auto-Renewal active or you haven’t renewed it yourself then you need to contact Topaz Support immediately as there’s only one day left to get Topaz Photo at this price.

Hi John, (Captain Mainwaring)

Captain Mainwaring was a character in Dad’s Army which was a BBC, British television sitcom. about the British Home Guard during the Second World War.

Here’s a short clip from the show

The phrase “Don’t Panic Mr/Captain Mainwaring” was used by another character named Corporal Jones.

Hope you enjoy

Well all this is news to me. I’ve had no communication at all from Topaz about this new subscription model. I have PhotoAI VideoAI and GigPixel with only PhotoAI having a current upgrade sub.

I found out about this about 20 minutes ago.

To say I’m confused is an understatement. I fired off an email to support about upgrading by Video AI for another year, but I imagine they are currently swamped.

Not very good giving a deadline on Sept 14th and not telling you…Though, if you are feeling generous, it’s probably more than a bit hectic at their end.

I await their response with interest.

Hi.

When you say 2 running subscription, just tobe clear are refering to active Auto-Renewal Subscription or your current Licences are still valid.

Goto, and Login to your Account and click on Subscriptions if they say active you don’t have to do anything the transfer will be automatic.

If, not then follow the information within the link below to activate Auto-Renewal Subscriptions for the apps you own or need to reactivate

Today is the last day for qualifying

Hope this helps

This is the last day for qualifying so, don’t wait do something about it.

Goto, and Login to your Account and click on Subscriptions if they say active you don’t have to do anything the transfer will be automatic.

Login to your account at the link And-e provided. As advised be sure Photo AI is set to auto-renew. (You can always cancel that up to a few days before they charge you to renew Photo, at least a few days before the renewal date.)

Since you’re saying you want Topaz Photo and Topaz Video, the least expensive way to get that only until the offer expires September 26th (unless they extend it again, for you or for everyone) is to renew your license to Topaz GigapixeI. Even if you’re not going to use Gigapixel, renewing that before the offer expires is much less expensive than renewing Topaz Video and will give you one year of all three apps including Video. Again they are saying that ability to get all three for the price of one year of any two expires on September 26th. Once the offer expires, it would cost a lot more to get Topaz Video going again.

One thing to check, though, before you pay for Gigapixel to get Video: make sure your hardware can run Video. There have been problems related to hardware requirements for the new Video app. Read through this thread: Topaz Video 1.0.0 (New Studio Release)

Unfortunately no free trial is available at this time.

If you do get the two licenses active and set on auto-renewal in time, don’t be surprised if there is a delay of several days before your account gets transitioned to allow you to activate Video and to show you as an Active Studio subscriber with auto-renewal. It may show incorrect pricing information on the renewal or the wrong renewal date for Studio. Give them a few days; it gets straightened out automatically, and then it would show the auto-renewal date for Studio (which, again, you can always cancel before renewal if you’re not happy) as being one year from your date of renewing Gigapixel. In other words, they’ll give you a full year of Gigapixel and Video and add a year from the date of your purchase to your subscription to Photo.

If a Studio subscription lapses, this deal is off. You can’t pick it up again later after a subscription lapses without paying full price, unless they extend a new deal.

Thanks for your helpful reply, The question is will I end up with a permanent licence of Topaz Video AI at the end of this ?

I’m on v 5.40 a the moment, so I’d rather spend the extra and get a permanent licence of 7.x at the end of it…

Thanks again.
