The ability to get a new permanent license to Topaz Video AI expired September 16th. They will not sell or renew permanent licenses going forward. Even if they did, your permanent license would be stuck on version 7.

I feel badly that you would have done it but didn’t get the early September email announcing it. I’m sure they have many customers who have not heard what’s happened and are going to be furious when they find out that to get access to new features will now cost much more money. These apps at the new full subscription prices would be a hard pass for me. Even at the lower prices you’re seeing through September 26th, it’s been hard pass for many who did hear about it, but I’m willing to try it and see how it goes for a year.

Hi. I’m a founding member (it shows in the old app and I have 2+ subscriptions and now my online account shows I’ve been converted to Studio), but when I download and open Topaz Video (studio version) there’s no sign of starlight anywhere… how do I get this to “enable” for my founder status?

edit - nevermind. i didn’t realize it only shows up with specific presets chosen. i clicked to a new preset and all of a sudden starlight showed up. either that or it was logging out and back in caused my credentials to refresh… either way, this is very unintuitive.

Topaz look like they are forcing you into a subscription model whether you like it or not. I don’t mind paying to have updates to recompense the developers for their work if the software contains features I want to use. At least that way I can continue to use the software I bought and paid for. If I were to fall into a subscription model then decide after a year that I can no longer afford it or don’t want any more enhancements and stop subscribing, I lose access to the software despite having paid all though the year.

You can still get perpetual licences until 26/09/25. Email support, and you will get a reply containing links to perpetual. Make your purchase, then ensure that auto-renewal is on, and you will get Studio at the lower subscription of $163. You will need to act quickly though.

Some of us have spent a lot of time beta testing, documenting issues, and discussing problems in beta versions up through Photo AI 4.10.0.6.b which is apparently being released as Topaz Photo v1.0.

Question: is that correct?

My perpetual license is for Photo AI 4.0. Will I get perpetual access to Topaz Photo 1.0 or will I be forced to revert to 4.0 once the new model is in place?

(If forced to revert to 4.0, that would seem rather unappreciative on Topaz’s part and rather a middle finger to the people who helped find numerous and serious problems in various be versions.)

Am I understanding this all correctly? (I am one of those who have never received any email about the upcoming changes.)

Could this be because you only own Photo AI and not Gigapixel AI or Video AI?

The email that I received nearly a month ago indicated that I was being contacted because I had purchased two or more of the listed applications, and would thus be considered a ‘founding customer’, eligible to subscribe to Studio at a discounted rate.

Thanks - that would explain it. (Of course, they could have sent a comm to the people who don’t own explaining what was going on, so we new why we didn’t get an offer.)

So I guess it is a big “thanks for your efforts” and some “thoughts and prayers” to people who worked to beta test a product if they did not own 2+ products.

It’s not been handled well, to state it delicately…

I’d think that they would have at least made an overture to owners of one app, rewarding them with a locked-in subscription price for past patronage, rather than charging the same higher cost incurred by new customers. I’ve gotten the impression that they were doing it that way, but I’ve read so many things in this forum the past 3 weeks that it’s hard to know what to believe…

I don’t think so. At the time of the email I owned all three apps (one has since expired) but I’ve not heard a single word from Topaz at all. I got all my info from this forum.

I only have Photo AI and I got the email viz:

“ Because you own an active upgrade license to Photo Al, you get access to the new Topaz Photo, new pro-only models, and unlimited cloud rendering for images at no extra cost. On Sept 16:

  • Your Photo AI perpetual license remains yours forever.

  • With an active upgrade license, you’ll get access to:

    • Topaz Photo, including the upcoming Wonder AI model normally for Pro only.
    • Unlimited cloud rendering for images (non-batch).
    • Grandfathered auto-renewal price as long as your plan is active.
  • Founding customers with 2+ auto-renewing upgrade licenses get access to the whole Studio collection.

By keeping your existing upgrade license, you get more features at half the cost for new customers after Sept 16. We’ll also have a special gift for you before the launch - no action required.”

I dislike subscriptions with a vengeance, so I’m out - why should I pay the same for another year and lose the new software if I decide to unsubscribe after that? I may have stayed if I had a recurring perpetual licence that I could choose to stop at any time but retain access to the version at that time.

Unfortunately when I got to Subscriptions, only my VideoAI in shown, and there is no option to set auto renewal on…

My currently active Photo AI subscription is not listed.

There is nowhere to turn on auto renewal…

Since the latest update I can now use Topaz Video offline. Thanks

I have an active upgrade license, renewing 12/23/25.
But I got nothing.

Mine was due for renewal on Oct 5th (btw, I got the email on Sep 5th) and tbh I didn’t like the new program - I thought the face recovery was demonstrably worse than the current/final version of Photo AI. That and being forced into a subscription made me throw in the towel…
