I have a brand new iMAC mini with M4 Pro chip. It will not let me load Topaz Photo AI. I have downloaded it twice with the same result. The error message reads
“Topaz Photo Al.app” is damaged and can’t be opened.
When an application gets downloaded from any source other than those that Apple seems suited, the application gets an extended attribute “com.apple.Quarantine”. This triggers the message: “ is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin.”
Remove the attribute and you can launch the application.
To do this, open a console and type:
$ xattr -c <path/to/application.app>
[You can drag Photo AI to Terminal to get the needed path]
Good news. I could not find the console you mentioned, however, in system settings / privacy I found Topaz sitting there saying it was unknown and blocked, but I just clicked on open anyway, and I was in.
thank you as your message gave me the idea that it was apple security causing the issue. It is now working as expected.

True. Then again…I’ve never really found one that was…I suppose it could be possible, but then a software developer would have to stop creating new features and the platform they run on would have to stop changing code as well.
The release was pushed a few days as they are working on the last fixes. I will get a new ETA from the development team tomorrow as today is MLK Holiday. Will reply here when I do!
Not sure about this - “staff” is a singular collective noun and at least for American English it seems that one can (esp. these days) use it with either singular or plural verbs to some extent depending on context. For what it’s worth, I’m in the US, tend to use “staff” with “is” but refer to the staff where I work as “we.”
All good fun but nobody picked up on my deliberate spelling mistake on my first reply. So I is, are, am winner on points. Yah boo sucks to the lot of you!
Hi Robert, I understand (and should have appended a smiley face in my last comment). I also think regional language is a bit like regional food - I’ve lived in the NW, midwest, mid-Atlantic, and SE US, and what is considered proper bbq and chili, e.g., differs considerably from place to place.
To get back partly on-topic, I’m still wrestling especially with AI sharpen and where the line is between sharpening my image and guessing what’s there based on (and possibly incorporating parts of) other people’s images, especially as pertains to fur/feathers and heavy sharpening/refocus.
