Gigapixel v7.4.0

No worries john - I think we have a good lead on the issue. Appreciate it!

The new face recovery is nice, but this version is buggy for me.

If I move the image to look at another part of the photo, it doesn’t update. It has the little spinning wheel at the bottom left, the photo stays in a “before” (pixilated) state, and my CPU and GPU sit idle with all CPU cores downclocked to 800mhz and the GPU sitting at 210mhz.

I may have figured out a work around:

Disabling face recovery brings back functionality when the face is not in the preview window. If the face is in the preview window, it works as expected with face recovery enabled, but if I move the photo so that the face is not shown in the preview, it breaks. (idle processors, spinning circle in the bottom left)

So, I have to get the settings dialed in without face recovery enabled, then get the face in the preview window and enable face recovery…then, without moving the photo…save it.

I’m use Win11, AMD, Nvidia and work for me fine.

This report of mine is just carrying more wood to the forest, but this happened to me too: Starting Gigapixel is manifested by the Gigapixel window popping up, then a small blank window appears for a fraction of second, tells me nothing, and Gigapixel closes immediately. Windows 10 Home. I tried to find the Log (as mentioned somewhere above) but couldn’t find one anywhere.

I really hope that the fix will be lightning fast and I won’t have again to download and reinstall the whole Gigapixel (= several Gigabytes!).

Why does Gigapixel already release non-working versions? Was it tested? I gave up on using Photo AI, and now I’m in for the same thing with Gigapixel? A tiring situation…

Hotfix is now available fixing this issue with opening the app. Please try it out! Updating the post now to reflect this. Thanks everyone.

Updating this thread to add that an issue was resolved where Gigapixel would not open when Lens Correction was disabled. Please see the updated download links in the post above for version 7.4.1.

  1. Gigapixel 7.4.1 can be started again without problems after installation over 7.4.0. Hats off to the lightning fast fix!

  2. However… after loading the photo into the program and selecting any model, nothing happens except for the rotation of the small wheel next to the menu item “AI model” and next to “Settings”. The wheel spins over and over, but nothing else happens. In the lower right corner of the photo, the name of the model “Standard v2” is in a gray rectangle, which in the earlier version turned blue quickly (or slowly depending on the selected model) and it was done. Now the wheels are just spinning so I’m going to end it because it seems like forever. Or weird cycling. Windows 10 Home, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD with plenty of free space, no other user process running, GPU NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6 GB.

But interestingly, the Task Manager shows quite a high usage of the WiFi Internet connection, and after Gigapixel is terminated, it stops too. Weird. But maybe irrelevant. Attempting to send a Log file:

Ah, that’s relevant. Gigapixel downloads some improved models when the installed ones seem outdated. It can be turned off in “Edit → Preferences” and then Gigapixel behaves as it should. But that 7.4.1 installed over 7.4.0 suddenly had all models upgraded and that 7.4.0 would get old so quickly within a few hours of bug fixing? I’ll try to get the Gigapixel running with those updates if it doesn’t take weeks (if there are gigabytes of data?). I’d quite like to be done with Gigapixel scientific research and focus on improving my imperfect photos…

Win 11 Pro desktop PC. Ps 2024 Plugin (File > Automate). Processor = AMD RX6800 XT.

GAI 7.4.1 Downloaded & installed quickly.

Both the Standalone & Ps (2024) Plugins launched okay.

Tried/was able to process image in the plugin.

Face Recovery Gen 2 took several passes (was slower) to process but results looked good. May have stripped some saturation from the image (see snips below). And, could save his parents a fortune b/c with it he may not need orthodontics …

Snips labelled in Filenames starting with Orig in the GAI UI, then Face Recovery Gen 1, Gen 2 (Realistic & Creative at moderate and max settings - which changed the kid’s expression and hid his teeth).

With all the uninstalling and reinstalling over the last couple of days, I’ve noticed that one specific model file keeps being redownloaded by the installer, even though the file appears to be identical to the one it’s replacing:

Try disabling face recovery. I am experiencing a bug where the program gets stuck with the spinning circle when face recovery is enabled but the face(s) is not in the preview window…it’s as if it’s searching for a face to recover, but only in the preview window. Both CPU and GPU sit idle the whole time. (This may be what you are experiencing)

Moving the photo to where a face is in the preview window allows the program to “find” a face to recover and face recovery can then be used.

If there is no face in the preview window, it bugs-out when face recovery is enabled.

I have a problem, why i can’t save with 7.4.1 ?

7.4.1 does the same as the most recent beta - loads in an image but won’t do anything with it, just upscales with jaggies in the main Window and has a spinner by the icon in settings, disabling AI for settings makes no difference (well, the spinner goes away, but no processing on the image). The compare view does no processing either.

(Ah, while the compare view with 4 images does nothing, with 2 images it worked once, but didn’t do anything back in the main window and I can’t repeat it… The v2 face enhancement did look good tho…)

Tried turning Lens Corrections off → no difference.

Tried changing from GPU to CPU → no difference

Anyone got any suggestions other than going back to the previous version?

(Update) Okay, I uninstalled and reinstalled the last beta and now 7.4.1 seems to be working. No, I have no idea why… The beta isn’t working…

Hey Aaron - can you share a screenshot of the issue or open a support ticket?

Hey JML please open a support ticket so we can investigate here

Please try disabling face recovery per my post above. I think this is the easiest way to duplicate/bypass the issue.

Face recovery bugs out when a face is not in the preview window. When a face is in the preview window, all is fine with face recovery enabled.
