HI, I have a video that crashes VEAI when attempting to load it when used on an Apple M1 running natively. It works fine it I force 2.6.0 to run via Rosetta.

Iā€™ve created a 1 second clip from the same video using FFmpeg and -c copy and that falls over too. Unfortunately its a video that I do not have copyright too, just one I use for testing video apps.

Is there anything I can supply to Topaz to help resolve this issue.

Great, I still cannot go over 120 fps with this build no matter what version of Chronos I use, the ones that worked were the previous General release/Beta 2.5.0!

NOTE: It wasnā€™t Chronos as it was the program itself I believeā€¦

EDIT: Iā€™ll try using a different download setting/dir, maybe that might help!

EDIT2: No luck, still gimpedā€¦

Hi, I have found a bug in 2.6. When I open a 265 file encoded in nvidia h265 on my PC copy of the software it works fine, when I open it on the Mac M1 copy of the software I get this error message and a hard crash:

That crash report looks similar to the one I get, but mineā€™s a H264 video, not my file so Iā€™ve got no idea what encoder was used.

Switch to the rosetta2 version of the app, by right clicking ā†’ get info and check open with Rosetta. You should be able to load the video now.

Congratulation to the dev Team! 2.6 installed w/o any problem. Performance and results have improved compared to 2.4.
Up to now I processed to videos
ā€“ upscaled 200% wmv 1920x1080 to mp4 4k UHD 3840x2160 with Proteus FT v3
ā€“ preset 400% slow motion mp4 1280x720 (AI model chronos slomo neither v2 nor v1 did work!!!)
ā€“ upscaled the slomo 300% to 4k UHD.
Both videos were prcessed in parallel w/o problem:
AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 4650G, M1.2 1GB: CPU 7%,
VRAM 32GB: 12%
NVIDIA 1650 GPU: 96-100% (RAM 2.8/4GB)

Once youā€™ll have fixed the chronos issue Iā€™ll be completly satisfied!

I should have seen that at the beta stage but Artemis aliased & moired v10 [model I never use] keeps coming back and displayed in the models list after each new launch when I have disabled it in the model manager menu.

Great news all around TY!

Im really annoyed.
I had 2.4.0 working fine, then i was flagged about an update.
I run the update, everythiing is fine

Now when i have updated the program tells me i have to pay to extend my upgrade period

Please explain to me, why exactly do you tell me to update if my licence has already expired? Why donā€™t you tell me this PRIOR TO UPGRADE?

Now i have to ā€œdowngradeā€ and lord knows what kind of issues will pop up. There was already problems in 2.4.0 because even though my licence had expired the new models were being downloaded, but none of these new models were functional in 2.4.0 rendering that application useless.

Topazā€¦ you really have to look over your business model, you cannot promote an update then after i update then you tell me i have to pay.
You also shouldnā€™t push updates of models to clients using the older version incompatable with the new models when their licence has EXPIRED.

Jesus christ, this is so annoying.

I canā€™t do anything other then laugh, this is the message i get when i downgrade to the licence i already own, read the message!

Yep, it tells me i own 2.4.0 but my licence is only good for 2.4.0 so i have to pay, LOL guysā€¦

The estimates were still completely wrong when uninstalling and installing the new version, so I uninstalled it again and also cleared everything in ProgramData, AppData Local and Roaming, and also cleared the registry, then installed it again.

This fixed both the estimates and Chronos resulting in completely different length videos despite running 100% speed, so quite happy to see that. On the other hand, maybe there needs to be something to ensure deprecated files/configs are properly cleaned prior to an upgrade.

EDIT: That said, Chronos still results in slightly different length files which is fairly annoying to deal with.
EDIT2: It seems to be two frames shorter per clip in my scenario which at least seems consistent. Iā€™m guessing itā€™s the first and last frame as they canā€™t be interpolated and thereā€™s no repeat frames.

Now i try to remove all the models that are only compatable with the new version, but everytime i restart the program they come back

As you can see i deselect the new models, then i press ā€œupdate model versionsā€ , then i close the program and open it again, and all the models are back.

I obviously donā€™t want my 2.4.0 version clogged with half of the models crashing my program because they are not compatable with this version. Why am i seeing models that are not even compatable with my version of ai video enhance?

Suraj, I would really appreciate .json files for the new models, you have my email, right?

When I implented the upgrade to 2.6 it said I have to bay. But when I entered my account evra thing was ok. Therefore check your account.

Windows 10 here. Iā€™m assuming by clean install you mean first uninstalling the old version then downloading/installing the new version? Anyway, this is how I always do it for the most part. I donā€™t have any problems but Iā€™m noticing the exact same render times for the model Iā€™m usingā€¦ Should I adjust something in preferences? Thanks

Windows version running flawlessly for me 2.6. Mac M1 has a few teething issues, to be expected in the first native version. Not quite ready for prime time in my opinion, but should be great by 2.7 once the little bugs are worked out!

V2.6.0 feels more reactive and the installation is way leaner!
(on a 16" M1 Pro MacBook Pro).
Thanks!

Zero performance improvement on this M1 Pro MacBook Pro though : still .32 frames/second to upscale 576p to 4K using Artemis HQ.
This is not a surprise since, according to Activity Monitor, neither CPU nor GPU were (or are) close to maxed out. (try using Handbrake, another video processing app, and see all cores work at 100%)

However, the same issue as before makes Topaz Video Enhancer AI practically unusable: the app stops working if the screen is password protected !!!
I have never seen such a thing - it is absolutely unthinkable for me to leave my Mac unattended (for example at night when I sleep) open for anyone to look into.
And there is no reason for such a behavior.
Also, it appears that the app has a NICE value of +19, which is almost the lowest possible priority (+20 is lowest priority, -20 is highest priority, 0 is default)

I am guessing that if this is not even correctly done, there are a lot of performance opportunities on the Mac app.

So, although Iā€™d love to use the app to upscale a lot of old videos, I cannot have it work at night because for that I currently need to totally disable the security of my Mac.

Itā€™s insane to have such an innovative app, just badly configured.

Please spend the few hours necessary to properly configure the Mac app, so that is does not get to sleep when the screen is password locked (display on or off). QOS classes are used to handle app/thread priority on macOS and are well documented.

Thanks in advance - the Mac app just needs a bit of love to be great!

In batch mode, ETA stuck at 0 when the second video begins to process. Appears not to reset when the next video begins to process for some reason. FPS work fine.

FWIW - Iā€™m not seeing any FPS improvement with Artemis High Quality (v12), at 4K from 720p original. Thatā€™s with 2080 Ti Founders Edition.

Just uninstalling isnā€™t enough. It leaves junk in multiple folders and the registry. It all needs to be cleaned.
