Topaz Video AI starts to update but-- when the ‘checking …’ window pops up, it instanly closes, and there’s no information as to why the updates failed to install.

My bad, BUT Photo AI is doing the same thing. I was reporting on both VID and Photo and, with the layout, I mis-posted.
