Video AI 3.0.0.6.b

Hello everyone,

Another beta for Topaz Video AI 3.0 is available. Please test and give us your feedback. Thank you.

Please upload videos that are not working or having any type of conflicts to this DropBox Folder .

Downloads:

Changes from v3.0.0.5.b :

  • Visual cropping tool has been added (Lock aspect ratio coming soon)
  • Added “gather log for support”

Known Issues

  • Preview mismatch for certain VOB files
  • Some videos can still have some seeking issues in Preview/Export
  • Color space / HDR issues
  • Keyboard navigation missing
  • Intel codec not working on some machines
  • Some quality mismatch between 2.6.4 and 3.0
  • Multiple selection for source videos is missing
  • Output bitrate is not reset to Preferences bitrate when importing a new file
  • Different view mode is still missing
  • Failure can happen when resizing to a big resolution like 4k or 8k without a warning if machine runs out of memory
  • Speed can be slower than 2.6.4 with some models on some machines. We’ll be working on speed optimization in the next weeks
  • Proteus with Auto + Stabilization may cause artifacts
  • Preview with image sequence doesn’t work or plays at 25fps
  • Aspect ratio crop missing

Problems and Solutions:

  • Make sure Max. Memory Usage in the Preferences is set to a high number
  • If the Gaia model fails on Mac, try re-installing the app using the DMG file
  • If export fails, try using Transcode/None/Auto in Audio Settings in Preferences

Cropping tool looks nice, thanks. I’m hoping we can get rotation options added as well (using the FFMpeg transpose option to rotate video clockwise/counter-clockwise, 90-180-270 degrees) for those pesky vertical videos etc.

:+1:

“Gather log for support” should be very handy… :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ll answer @pdwhite user’s question here - I used AV1 MKV video file as an input (VEAI 2.6.4 reads and shows it, and I can preview the models):

It’s probably ffmpeg’s quirk.

David,
I think that would be nice - someday.

First, we need to fly right-side up.

Agreed, VEAI 2.x was much more stable, and also far less sophisticated in it’s overall concept.

Proteus changed everything. I believe the whole VEAI 3.x concept is built to support superior end-to-end enhancement leveraging Proteus Auto.

Small bug with the cropping feature !

if the previous video has a different size than the video to crop in the source list, when hitting on the crop button, it has “as default”, the size of the previous video.
for example, i import a 1440x1080 video, i crop it, then load a second video of 640x480, when i hit the crop button, the default is the 1440x1080 and not 640x480.

must check if it’s happening when importing different files at the same time, or if it’s happening to when importing one video at a time to.

easy to fix on the user side : hitting the reset button in the crop feature.

That’s where beta testers come in.

I’m not sure where to ask this question so asking it here. Where can I read about what the Topaz Video AI Redistributables do, & if I want to use them is there anywhere for the layman (or should that be layperson?) like me who has never used things such as github before, to understand how to use it?

At the (almost) finish of processing a 5s preview of an 854x480p (H.264 and AAC) video (480p → 1080p with Proteus, 29.97fps → 59.94fps, output as MKV, H.265 Main [NVIDIA], 12Mbps), this beta crashed with 0xc0000005 exception in Qt6Gui.dll library. It was 5th preview of the same video file in different parts of it.
I ran the software with admin rights though.

I compared the “Auto” feature of Proteus estimating for each frame with manual settings, and it’s better to set it manually according to the chosen frame in the source video.

All on RTX 3090 and 516.94 Studio driver.

IMO, you don’t need to be a programmer to be a beta tester. VEAI is a video utility, not a development tool. The target customer base is intended to be people doing video editing.

When you select Preferences/Folders/Export Folders - i expected my completed task would go to the Export Folder, instead it goes to the folder on which i selected the file to be processed from.
I have assumed that the Export Folder to be the same as in v2.6.4 (output directory)
I know that you can get the file to go to the Export Folder, but that seems to be double handling to me.
Thanks

John

When you select Help/Check for updates in the main window of the app, i had noted in a prior version that this did not update me to a newer version which was available.
I know that this is a Beta Testing Environment so would not expect it to currently work, but just throwing it in there as what i used to do as a testing resource.

@xuan.liu uploaded Apple Device File in Rec 709

I know, but I am a programmer anyway.

i think that @xl5 already use VEAI 3, here he’s asking “how to use the redistrubutables” that’s mean he would like to create his own version of VEAI which can offer features not possible to have with the VEAI version provided here because of licence issues.

all the files are provided by Topaz to build our own version, unfortunatly, from what i read here and there from people trying to do it, this is not an easy task. if a coder, a dev or a professionnal programmer is in this community and is not a member of topaz and succeded to do it, that would be very helpful if he tell us how. the procedure could be written on a topic here.

someone already did it for mac from one of the dev here told.

In the recent versions I did not manage to process any single video successfully because of the gui always crashing after a few minutes and I did not want to let ffmpg run the remaining 10 hours with no visual control. :eyes:

Attempting to “reinvent the wheel” is a waste of time; especially when the VEAI Dev team is working on their beta version as a group.

IMO, the libs and headers are probably best used as references. - Let the Topaz VEAI team do the heavy lifting. - Beta Testers main function is to provide feedback on whether the project is working (or not) by hands-on video users.

For those who want to go experience the angst, frustration. exhaustion and (sometimes) exhilarating of actually developing code, I’d recommend sending Topaz your resume; you might as well get paid for that. - Please Note: I am not implying that Topaz has any openings for programmers.
