Vertical ARW images are cropped at top when put into Photo AI. This is a deal killer!

John, here is the image. Every photo taken of me catching this Bushmaster had its tail chopped off, so I chose this one and planned on adding the missing tip. I pulled it from Adobe CS6 Bridge directly into Topaz Photo AI. I used the default settings (I have never fiddled with the settings) and opted of r the denoise (done automatically) and followed it with sharpen subject. Each time it lopped off still more of the top of the picture. Try it and see if you can figure out why. I process a lot of photos through AI (excellent program) and only recall this happening one other time.
Frankly, not wanting to dig out the hard drive and chase down the image and run it through AI again, I blew this off. But the unwanted cropping just happened again, so please do me a favor and try it yourself. I am attaching the RAW file I ran through Photo AI. I have never tinkered with the AI settings…it is the default as sent to me by Topaz. It automatically denoises and I then opt for the “sharpen subject,” then save it. I work out of Adobe PhotoShop CS6 Bridge. Now, with this image please pay attention to the long toe at the right side of the image. It is close to the edge of the original but after AI it is actually touching the edge. How do I turn off whatever is doing this?
No, I take images simultaneously in RAW + jpeg and save them in an archive which I then pull up into Adobe Bridge. When I select an image I go first to Photo AI and open the RAW image in that program. In the case of the one I sent to you, it automatically denoises and I then opt for sharpening the subject. I then save the file, return to Bridge, open it in PhotoShop RAW and later in PhotoShop itself. When the cropping problem has occurred, it comes out of AI that way.
While the mystery of cropped images plays out, here are some minor comments/questions. And I offer all of this because I love Photo AI, tremendous program and I use it daily.
I work out of PhotoShop CS6 and the associated Adobe Bridge. I select a RAW photo from the (usually very large) archives, send it to PhotoAI, and it is returned, logically, to a spot beside the initially selected image in Bridge. However, this will go on for a while and then suddenly the AI’d images are returned to the very end of the archive, which is quite inconvenient. Any idea what might be causing this to happen?
The only reason I have not immediately purchased the new AI version is because of the limited options for paying. My wife would raise cain if I use one of the credit cards, but if PayPal were accepted, I would have already made my purchase…
I would be happy to Beta test things should the need for volunteers ever arise.
I’m beginning to suspect this might be a problem with the plugin workflow you are using. Unfortunately, the Photo AI plugins do not work with Photoshop CS6:
Photoshop CS6 was released in 2012 and was discontinued in 2017; all this happened before Photo AI was released in 2022.
The Filter plugin may work in CS6, but the File > Automate plugin will not. You can test the Filter plugin | Filter > Topaz Labs > Topaz Photo AI
Both Automate and Filters plugins will work if you have access to the Photoshop 2024 version, for example, but Automate will not work in the CS6 version.
If you do not have another Photoshop version, you can also use the standalone Photo AI app and export from the app. Then, open the edited Photo AI picture in Photoshop CS6.

I am not using Photo AI as a plugin. Once I select the image to work up, I open Photo AI and go into the file and click on it. I do not want to subscribe to PhotoShop because CS6 essentially has what I need plus they can’t help themselves when it comes to changing basic layout and I despise re-inventing wheels.
One more thing: if there exists a basic incompatibility between Photo AI and PhotoShop CS6, one would expect this to manifest itself regularly. But this is rare; in fact, it has only happened three times and I have processed a slew of images. By the way, aside from computer operating system requirements, you all might want to add a listing of photo editing programs that are incompatible. In my case, I made absolutely certain my computer was up to snuff and it would have been frustrating to have purchased the program only to learn I had to also get a different editing software.
