I was surprise to see a big change to the interface. I’m still not certain about navigating it, but overall it looks nice. My issue however is this version runs incredibly slowly (for me) compare to the previous version, about twice as slow. I may need to revert to an older version until the bugs are worked out on this version.
This GUI update is unusable for me.
I haven’t got a clue what’s going on and many aspects which made sense before are no longer intuitive.
I appreciate the impressive ongoing advancements with the AI functionality, but this UI update is terrible. I just can’t use it if I can no longer understand it.
I assumed that a GUI update would make the software easier to use, not more confusing. I’m trying to do the same things I did before with unpredictable results. A lot seems to do with this dual window. For example I think I’m working on the video, then it tells me that it’s processing and that the second window is in a queue. What does that even mean?
I try switching between windows, but then that immediately removes the settings I was working on.
I started processing on a video, then after a few minutes I clicked on the text above which was described as the original video, then back onto the text below which was supposedly the preview, …processing stopped. I couldn’t find any trace of a processed video, no preview or anything, it was simply lost.
I also wrongly expected that the live preview would finally work, but now that’s been sacrificed. Probably one of the most important features for anybody with a workflow in mind.
Maybe the fault lies with me. But I can’t use this until a new update is released or some clear tutorials to deal with this new version are made available.
I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here, I paid good money for this. I’m so disappointed because I know how impressive the results are which can often be achieved with the software.
Looping previews can be done by setting the In - Out point around the preview. The In - Out selector is meant to be used as a “region of interest” selector so that you can loop any section of an input video regardless of it’s processing status.
Will look into this!
Not a big fan of the new UI, but this is a minor issue in my opinion.
One problem that I noticed is how some switches are not aligned properly on Mac (see attached screenshot).
This is done to ensure that a processed pair of previews is available when comparing the two views.
In a future update the unchanged previews will be re-used when the filter settings are unchanged and the playhead has not moved.
When processing a preview, when I press the play button underneath the two screens, the process stops!
What about the Tensor-RT speed gain? Or have I missed something?
Excellent, that is exactly what it should be!
Does anyone from Topaz use the program?
How can you program such a terrible functionality.
1.) If I delete the last preview, all other settings are lost (resize, aspect, etc).
2.) If I click from the original tab once on a rendered tab, the preview of this model is not displayed but only the written model information. Only with a double click the preview is updated.
3.) SD on HD and preview on 100% results only in a 100% zoom preview of the original video. So no 100% HD will be displayed.
4.) Why is the old preview rendered again when I want to render a new preview with a different model? Apparently you have to select the original again and make all settings (resize, aspect, etc) again to avoid unnecessary rendering. What a nonsense!
Is there a video tutorial or something? I spent 5 minutes trying to generate a preview and gave up because the new interface is just too confusing.
Is there any way to append the Video AI version number to the output file name, or any way to change the output file name at all? I’ve previously appended the version numbers, so I can do quick comparisons with my reference movies. For my normal conversions, I normally have the resolution of the original file in the file name that I used to change when I output my files, but I no longer see anyway to change the file names anymore.
On the Topaz site it states:
If your Topaz Video AI upgrade license is expired, you’ll receive a special upgrade offer on October 17. Because you own Topaz Video AI, you can continue to use your current version without upgrading.
I received no such offer that I can see. If I go to upgrade, it shows the usual upgrade price $150. Am I missing something? Today’s the 18th, but I checked yesterday and same thing.
Amazing update! Finally in and out is back! Also being able to preview two different settings, like we used to be able to do, is awesome. Would four have been better? Sure, but I’ll take what I can get. The new interface is so much better than the last. Great work! It will make comparing two models so much easier.
Also, is there a keyboard shortcut to switch views? I know you can click in the window, but it would be helpful to have a keyboard shortcut.
Hello,
We’re working on a video tutorial, but we do have a guide to the new UI changes available in the app’s Help menu:
I think it would be useful for Topaz to have a set of reference movies that we could experiment with and share the results with other members of the community, and vice versa. This could help new users better understand the features and filters with feedback from more experienced community members. Plus, it would have the added benefit of taking some load off the product specialist, as many members have been more than generous sharing their tips. Unfortunately, they’re usually referring to specific customer movies that narrow cast to a particular use case. A broader view would add considerable value. Edit: Moved to Ideas, but sure to vote for it there please.
