Topaz Video AI v4.0.0

But you can’t see it in real time like you could before. Now you have to wait until the entire video is processed to be able to view it. Also this is nothing new. In previous versions, up to 4 different configurations could be loaded to compare them in real time.
Now there is only a still image, and it does not show any difference from the original video

And the difference between models, what is it?
Here an example on the left is Nyx in a car. To the right Gaia HQ by car.
But the image is the same, there are no differences between those 2 models at least

It says “not processed” in both views.
This is because your actual timepoint for the view is outside/behind the processed region (as can be seen on the timeline)- so no wonder you don’t see a difference as both views simply show the unenhanced source…

Interface is better in this version.

A bit of feedback. First things first. I like the new interface! It took me a few moments to understand its purpose but yeah, it’s fine!

However, there are a few things I’d like to point out. I’ve added a screenshot with red arrows to help explain.

When you add another enhancement, it doesn’t show the second name on the previews line, so it’s tricky to understand each preview enhancement as it only shows the first name only.

I’ve noticed that the recover detail input will go back to zero randomly even if you set it to say, 20. This is very annoying as I was a few minutes through an export when I noticed, so I had to stop it and set it back to 20 again, then re-render.

But THE single biggest missing feature that was there before but isn’t in version 4, is a preview loop so you can easily spot the differences whilst playing the preview output. This simply MUST be added back in. I’ve placed an arrow where I’d suggest a loop icon should be placed so you can either loop or not. But the option MUST be added!! It’s super mega irritating having to put the playback head back to see it again, and again, and again y’know‽!

You finally brought back the comparison mode, thanks.

@jacob.muchow @suraj

When is the interpolation dupe thing finally going to be addressed? New versions is nice 'n all (if its an improvement that is) But BIG BUGS need to be fixed first imo. I bought this program so I can work with it.

At this point im only using 30% of its capabilities cus I have to do my frame processing with other software…

I processed a few videos, seems cool so far. But is there a way to access the settings for previous videos you exported? I remember when you clicked on an exported video before it would switch between settings, but this time it just loads the external player.

Also what does “copy settings” do? Where can I paste it exactly?

Preview does not have a loop option, you have to manually stop playback and manually rewind to see it again. In my opinion, when you select the preview you timeline should change to only show what that preview has processed, and then loop.

It is good to see the ETA and fps metrics back, that was a huge worry.

Removing a preview does not delete the preview from your temp folder.

App is back to using very little GPU. Doing a 4k 50FPS apollo v8 + iris low (auto) for testing shows about 50-59% CPU and only 1-8% GPU.

Second preview attempted did the same, low cpu low gpu usage at only 1.1fps processing speed, but afterwards the preview played it until the end of processing, then got stuck in a pause/play loop for that last .5 second. I had to click off the preview in the preview pane, then pause to stop it. Navigation buttons would flicker between play and paused the whole time too, unclickable.

Crop button does not work for previews, so you still cannot get a 1:1 of what your export will look like in the preview.

Closing all inputs also does not go back and delete any of the previews. Perhaps have this as an option to keep or delete?

Test was done on my slower PC that I use for testing, then just frame interpolation of stuff.

How can we view the current speed of processing when previewing?

And when exporting it says: “double click to view” nothing happens…

Which models do you refer to?

On mine the speed of processing shows up on the preview plane, for that preview.

I found that you can avoid this by first doing the preview with changed settings in the same window as the first one and leave the source in the other. After the preview with changed values is done, you can switch the previous/already done encode to the other window to compare them.

Sorry guys,

The new interface is clunky and Add Grain doesn’t work at all.

Just reverted to 3.5.4.

Suggestion: Maybe give people the option to use the new Interface (4.x) or the Classic Interface (3.x).

Glad you at least let people roll back to older versions.

Remember: “If it ain’t broke, don’t ‘fix’ it.”

I am stuck at version 3.4.4 because in every single version after that, the exports randomly get stuck and show remaining times of 12days when it should be 40 mins or so.
I 've tried everything including using Revo uninstaller to wipe completely the program from the PC and reinstall.
Also I tried the suggestions of the Topaz team and nothing would fix this.

And honestly I cannot believe that you still haven’t included basic functionality features to this program which would improve the overall experience tremendously, given how simple their implementation is.

  1. Allow the user to be able to save job list so that it can be reloaded and run at a later time. (a “delayed start” and “shutdown upon completion” would be nice too)
  2. The ability to pause the conversion.

This is the most terrible release ever
I just uploaded 70 movies but if I check the settings it opens a mediaplayer
it will always stick at one video you can not swap between videos it looks like one video for multiple cases
acctually I really do not understand this GUI please concentrate on the AI part not on the GUI icons

My favorite new feature is the slider comparison window, also comparing two filters is nice. I have been using the software for a few months, my macro level output has been impressive. Though dual video cards has been challenging to consistently use.

My notes on dual video cards: I have two 3070 Aorus 8GB cards, Win11, AMD 5950, 64 Gb RAM, NVdia 537.58 Studio Drivers (running the NVENC unlimited patch) . In Ver 4, I have to select the first listed 3070 card to see any improvement from having two cards, AUTO uses only 1 card, ALL GPU returns ERR on Benchmarking and Previews,
In Ver 4, I am seeing usage ranges: GPU0 = 60-100% capacity, and GPU1 = 0-40% capacity, with GPU0 = 90% and GPU1 = 25% capacity as more the average. Note load balancing was much better 3.5.4 - typically a 60/40 split - though neither card was maxed in processing load.
Also the benchmarking only uses 1 card in Ver 4.

I’m confused by all the ‘live preview doesn’t work or has been removed’ comments.
No it does not start playing automatically, but it does play when I press play while it’s still processing.
Maybe you have to have the output as image files?

I was surprise to see a big change to the interface. I’m still not certain about navigating it, but overall it looks nice. My issue however is this version runs incredibly slowly (for me) compare to the previous version, about twice as slow. I may need to revert to an older version until the bugs are worked out on this version.

This GUI update is unusable for me.
I haven’t got a clue what’s going on and many aspects which made sense before are no longer intuitive.
I appreciate the impressive ongoing advancements with the AI functionality, but this UI update is terrible. I just can’t use it if I can no longer understand it.

I assumed that a GUI update would make the software easier to use, not more confusing. I’m trying to do the same things I did before with unpredictable results. A lot seems to do with this dual window. For example I think I’m working on the video, then it tells me that it’s processing and that the second window is in a queue. What does that even mean?

I try switching between windows, but then that immediately removes the settings I was working on.

I started processing on a video, then after a few minutes I clicked on the text above which was described as the original video, then back onto the text below which was supposedly the preview, …processing stopped. I couldn’t find any trace of a processed video, no preview or anything, it was simply lost.

I also wrongly expected that the live preview would finally work, but now that’s been sacrificed. Probably one of the most important features for anybody with a workflow in mind.

Maybe the fault lies with me. But I can’t use this until a new update is released or some clear tutorials to deal with this new version are made available.
I don’t think I’m being unreasonable here, I paid good money for this. I’m so disappointed because I know how impressive the results are which can often be achieved with the software.
