Topaz Video AI v3.3.2

Question! For better video quality, there is a difference to upscale up to 4K/60fps in one pass. Do I need to do 4K first and then 60fps a second time?

Update has completely broken the software for me! I import a file and all of the options are unresponsive and currently unable to use at all. Have had to download the older legacy version in the meantime, hopefully will be fixed with the next patch. Running on Mac Studio M1 Max

Maybe this is because of old presets?
Try setting default preset in the prefs to none and then try again.

The new version works well here on the M1 Pro and the M2 ultra so it should for you as well

Oh brilliant yeah that’s fixed it thanks! As you said, had an old preset set to default.

Can someone explain how I use the ProRes proxy feature? fundamentally?
I am using ProRes files in davinci resolve and was wondering if I can use this feature to speed up editing?..

My understanding was that a proxy file was a separate file which serves as a reference to a larger file

It’s just a name, a more highly compressed version of Prores, nothing to do with proxy files that your video editor might let you generate. It still uses 40-50 Mbps at 1080p though, less than a quarter of Prores 422 HQ for example.

Think of it as one step below Prores 422 LT; I use it as an intermediate format when upscaling low resolution video and it’s fine for that if disk space is limited, in Windows too. In your video editor, you could generate a proxy of Prores 422 Proxy if you like, though Prores is supposed to be designed for speed anyway.

Since this update, the Iris model on any kind of upscale, on my M2 Mac Studio starts a process called “aned” which rapidly gobbles up gigabytes of swap memory, and never actually previews or generates a file. This didn’t happen in the previous version, so I’m going to have to roll back to it. I’m sending a screengrab to the Dropbox, but I suspect that won’t be terribly helpful.

I already reported that earlier.

BTW, it will start the preview/encode but only after first filling up all RAM plus the same amount of swap disk space which takes quite some time (>2mins here with 64GB); after that it’ll release the memory again and start the actual encode.

A workaround for this is to limit the RAM usage in the prefs to 10%.

Thanks Joachim, that workaround does help, so I don’t have to roll back to the prior version. Now I need to leave a note to myself to set the RAM back once this issue’s been addressed

Me also
sometimes. Using 3:3:0 I had three jobs of which only the first succeeded, the remaining two got the Red cross of Doom.
I just thought was it maybe a hard disk space issue (does it write a large Temp file to the final Output drive or create on on the Input drive?), but as to your post apparently not - it seemingly required a ‘software solution’.
I am now trying again (yes, again!) using 3:3:2.
Some feedback from Topaz on this issue would be appreciated!
I can understand User: menditsa not responding to another query I made about their IRIS model problem as probably so, so busy

The image did not upload for some reason, can you please try again?

Are you referring to real-time playback? This series processes files using a different logic than v2.6.x, however, we are putting significant work into the playback experience for both preview and export

Can you please open a support ticket and share your logs?

Also, the first issue will be resolved in Tuesday’s release

Does this happen for you with Chronos?

Please open a support ticket and share your logs

Try both to see which method works the best for your content

That is quite odd! We have not had any other reports of this occurring.

Please open a support ticket and share your logs

Ah great!! Thanks for updating us  Disregard my last reply

We would need your logs  For non release related issues, you would need to open a support ticket and share your system profile and logs.

selectors for encoders – ProRes, H264, H265, VP9, AV1 ・・・・?
AV1 codec cannot be used.
But I would be happy if I could use the AV1 codec.
