Topaz Video AI v3.1.11

That links go in depth regarding upscaling DS9. There are several other articles on the same site. In short you need the original DVDs, then use a tool like Staxrip along with some avisynth filters to fix the originals before upscaling.

It will never look like 4k though.

I have been upscaling/testing and playing with Voyager episodes for years at this point. This week, to experiment again with one of the older models and try to mimic the quality in Proteus, I did 7x upscales of the same episode in season 5, and then further refinements last night.

I “think” the latest result will be good for what i was trying to do, but its still upscaling right now, so I was going to post on the Star Trek thread later today with the result (assuming I haven’t misjudged it). I don’t have any issues with people copying the process - but its not straight forward.

It requires external processing first and then upscaling using an older version of Topaz, but happy to state exactly what I did if you want it - but I would first wait and see what the sample looks like when I am done and whether it is suitable for you.

Will all the issue with using intel gfx be resolved sometime? Still using CPU reagrdless.

The bulk of users either aren’t interested in using the CLI or aren’t tech savvy enough to use it. Topaz has to get the GUI in good order.

Same problem with sliders resetting to zero if I scale. This doesn’t happen if I don’t scale (from 320x240 for example).

Given that most of my subscription was used testing the new features and waiting mostly for fixes and improvements I think that your paying customers should receive a year of updates for free. The program is improving with each release and I think all will agree who have purchased a subscription to use Topaz video AI should have the option of having another year of updates or at least and extension of their existing subscription. I feel that your paying customers have been giving input, testing and feedback and should be compensated due to functionality of the program not being up to a final product quality.

Hey I saw this yesterday too! I’ll make a bug topic on it.

I can’t generate different previews in Theia model with different options.

I do not see an AV1 encoding setting. I see pro res, mp4, v9 etc but no AV1

I purchased and tried both PAL and NTSC versions. The NTSC returned better results, and was a little better than the original source video, but nothing like native 4K. I followed the ExtremeTech articles to, but the incredible amount of work that he put into each episode, would be totally impractical for the entire 172 episodes of Voyager. From what I understand, he never even made it through the fist season, because of all the work. Besides that, his results weren’t much better than what I got anyway.

They haven’t added it for AMD RX 7000 series yet that I know of. Otherwise you have to have an Intel ARK GPU or Nvidia RTX 4000 series.
You can search these forums for how to enable the software encoder. I remember someone asking how to do that a couple versions ago.

Yeah, his method does take a good amount of time. I did like his results with color grading\correction with CGI scenes. The last article I read he showed a defiant scene and it was very impressive.

I still have the video card issue with this version, and have now gone back to using the latest Alpha and have had no problems?

AI model proteus causes flickering in parts of the video where the original does not flicker.

I tried many options and came to the conclusion that there are only two options for decent quality.

  1. Good and high quality videos are processed using Apollo + Artemis(HQ). Bitrate - maximum!
  2. Poor quality video is processed only with Gaia(HQ) + Apollo + standard stabilization. Do not make an increase greater than 2, and a large bitrate, Upscale x 2. Noises (Grain) add minimal (3/1). But, that’s all, after the previous color correction in another program.
    For interlacing, a separate question!

Proteus Auto is bad! Do not use it at all. But, the distortion is done by ot Chronos. It is better to use Apollo.

No it is not, stop spreading incorrect information.
There are a number factors on video source that affect what model is best suited to peoples needs.
Proteus Relative to Auto with various settings works best for me on the majority of my work on Video Transport Stream files (HD and FHD source).
Maybe if I was ripping DVD’s and enhancing other models might be better suited the job.
Doesn’t mean they are bad.

I used ‘proteus’ without ‘frame interpolation’ and when I use ‘frame interpolation’ I use apolo. Apparently there are no flickers in the video but when I zoom in I notice the flickers in certain parts of the video, I apply Dehalo at maximum, it improves the flickers but the image loses quality in colors. Theia and Gaia are good options but I can’t use it in manual mode to change the parameters yet.

Changed my MB from Z370 to Z790 and CPU from i9-9900K to i9-13900K. Graphics card previously and afterwards RTX 4070 TI. Nvidia Studio Driver. Video AI 3.1.10 stopped processing instantly with unknown error. Updated to 3.1.11 and processing stopped after scanning / preview phase with unknown error.

the old interface was much more intuitive and better previews.
