Hello everyone,

Today we have a new Alpha build to test an updated version of the Aion frame interpolation model.

This version of Aion is available for both Windows and macOS.

Topaz Video AI 4.2.0.1.a

Changelog from 4.2.0.0.a

    • More accurate motion estimation for high-resolution inputs.
    • Reduced artifacting and ghosting when compared with Apollo and Chronos.
    • True 16x slow motion without duplicate frames.
    • Improved temporal consistency.

YES! Thanks for the alpha, can’t wait to test!

Should I be concerned that the “Fix top part of window being hidden for some users.” is not included in this Alpha build?

Topaz Window is always behind the Taskbar after first start and showing welcome tutorial:

Edit: When i double click on the top title bar from topaz then the window has the correct size. but per default its wrong size and under the taskbar.

Hi, I cannot download aion model, nor in export, nor in download manager (“Error: connection manager handling canceled”) . Other models are downloaded without problems.

Odd. I had no issue downloading the Aion model.
I tried it on my killer clip. It’s better at the first scene than Apollo, but worse than Apollo at the second scene.
I might try it on some more clips, but for now I only tried it on 15 seconds of FHD frames. Doing 2.5X slow motion, it was about as fast as tar. Not saying that that’s unusable, I just imagine 4K would take a week to do a full 2 hour video.

No issue downloading Aion Model too on my side.
Its working good. Some motions are blurry (Hand and drum stick):

Its looking weird while playing. Not all is blurry and messed up. Motion of this is clear:

Yep, as it’s happened to me.

Aion did a “loading model/model downloaded” loop and downloaded the model on the fourth go-around. Isn’t what I would call a failure, but it is odd behavior.

Perhaps, the problem arises downloading the macos model that is my case.

How much VRAM do you have?
As they say tiling can be reduced with larger amounts of VRAM.

That said, it might be worthwhile to check AIONs performance on the clip on Apple Silicon as there you get massive amounts of VRAM (48 GB here).

What does this mean in detail?

    Blockoverlap?

But it’s had more time on macos. That one should have less issues than Windows at this point.

I’ve got 12GB, but as usual it was using about 2GB.
I’m not seeing any tiling artifacts, if that’s what you’re talking about. I’m only referring to the motion of prominent objects in my video clip.

Oh, then I confused you with someone other that had that problem-video with the tiling artifacts.

The same here (M2 Ultra, macOS Sonoma).
If I select Aion it errors out after the downloading model message.

    EDIT: Add logs
    logsForSupport.zip (68.6 KB)

P.S.: And no, I don’t have antivirus or VPN installed.

The tiling artifacts (blocking) arise in relatively large surfaces with relative fast movement (walls, …) and high res video (in 4K, maybe in FHD also but it’s less prone).

This is a frame of a 4K video. It’s a butterfly suddenly opening its wings. With aion (4.1.0.3.a) the frame is clear, no blocking at all.

The rendering in this case is done with apollo v8.

aione doesn’t work for me, I’m on a Mac, that’s strange because in version 4.1.0.3 it works fine.

Great news. Say, are we able to open the temporary export file during export again in this alpha?

Thanks a lot… but i’ll wait the BETA version with Aion v1!
