Topaz Video AI 5.0.3

What? No. A team got together and created new space scenes along with a few special effects to replace the originals. No AI involved.

Yes I admit these scenes were created before we used AI as a buzzword. Still my Enthusiasm for Topaz lately put me on a bandwagon where I stumbled and purchased Videoproc Converter AI which is much more than a converter it all in one no community or support and no bi weekly update, but hell it does magic if you can find the student lifetime version it is for nothing and a great intuitive menu. So my enthusiasm for Topaz in the last 1 year lessened and the only fun in the end are the loyal community members, but it is not sufficient for the results. Good to have 8 export preview issues fixed in the beta there were 10 so a big step forward…

I didn’t have a copy of 5.0.2 and couldn’t find it online.

Well I’ve been more critical than most on here about TVAI and still am about several aspects (e.g. bugs, interface) but I have VideoProc AI and it’s fast - but it leaves me deeply unsatisfied in frame interpolation. In fact, for me on any fast movement, it’s useless. The output at 2x slomo is noticeably jerky, whereas TVAI is butter-smooth in comparison.

I haven’t done detailed comparisons on upscaling yet, at first sight the differences are less obvious but may be there, I don’t know. But on frame interpolation TVAI wins hands down so I would advise anyone to try it out extensively using the trial, before paying money for it.

Also, I couldn’t get my GPU to be utilised more than 55%, and CPU 20%/RTX 4080/R9-5950x in VideoProc (which has a great format converter though!)

It is great for the price not everyone use frame interpolation not even in topaz

topaz has difficulty loading not perfectly good files it will hang nor does video proc but much better some I need to go back to anymp4 or use in worst case kernel video repair.

Still as an overall video AI processor it shows a lot of features and upscaling is fast it is not a goal to use all cpu and gpu the goal is to use the combination smart therefore you see that it uses at different moments gpu cpu or all together 4080 i have

anyway topaz seems now geared for developing linux users lets see how this works with my oracle linux on wsl 2 on windows 11

Also, VideoProc owners are based in China, which may be important for some people to know.

I figured with the trial version being an option, it was worth a test. My conclusion: It’s most similar to having Artemis Medium as the only AI model and it runs half as fast. (I guess there is a cartoon one that I didn’t try.) No CLI. No MKV output.

Screenshots don’t really help for video processing, would need to see how the clip runs.

I usually find a spot in the video that I know will be most difficult to match, set to manual, hit the estimate button, do a 30 sec preview and that’s what I use.

At first I thought ā€œAutoā€ would detect ā€œper frameā€ but it doesn’t, so I don’t use Auto as the results are 50/50.

For distant scenery like mountains that are naturally blurred per original Aperture settings for the camera, Video AI has a hard time and I’ll see jumble artifacts as it tries to extra detail where it shouldn’t be trying to extract. The models seem to have a hard time determining ā€œsubjectā€ vs. ā€œbackgroundā€ in open scenery shots (outside environment).

5.0.3 is a buggy MESS, do NOT upgrade!

@robin.ainscough

So what is your preferred version?

Thanks a lot. I’ll check it with some soup operas from the 90’s

really i removed tik tok, but this company seems according to copilot to be trusted and reputable in its 15 year existence

Something like using Veeam as a backup product for Virtuals all enterprises use it but the owners are russian

You might want to check your Video AI preferences. If you increase the Max Processes you’re GPU should hit 100% … BUT, be warned, this is going to generate a lot of heat and use a lot more energy, so you will need a good cooling solution for your GPU and very good PSU.

4.2.2 or 4.2.1 … the 5.x series is a mess IMHO … clearly rushed out the door without proper testing.

Indeed.
What’s more, I’ve just seen the ā€œVideo proc AIā€ demonstration tutorials and I’m not really convinced of the result. There’s a world of difference between what he shows in the demo at the beginning of the video and the improvement in the software interface. I have the impression that the source was already very good at the start and that they then lowered the quality to trick people. Supposedly, the low quality is the original and the other the AI enhancement.

You can find all the versions here:
Sujets RƩcents sur Topaz Video AI/Releases - Topaz Community (topazlabs.com)

And 5.0.2 is in the same position as 5.0.0.
Topaz Video AI 5.0 - Topaz Video AI / Releases - Topaz Community (topazlabs.com)

Yeah I saw the first bug reports for 5.0.3. and I was planning to upgrade. And wait for the next one. As long as 5.0.2 works well for what I’m doing, I’m happy.

I’m at 100% and I don’t exceed 48°-49° on my GPU. But I also set some parameters to minimum in MSI After Burner.

And for enhancement without scaling, I’m pretty fast.

Hi, how can I apply stabilization to some sections of a video and a model, say Proteus, to the whole video? Thank you.
