Topaz video 2.6.4 no longer works:(

Topaz Video AI v2.6.4 no longer launches on Windows. The application window flashes for a split second, then closes automatically. This happens even after a clean reinstall. Multiple users are reporting the same issue starting recently.

Its sad to see it no longer work, it really was the best version
Is there any reason as to why?

Hi Sky.

Is there a message or anything similar

Hello, no there is no message, i can provide you with a the logs but ive already checked,
The only thing ive seen consistent over multiple user is that their model folder is empty in the appdata, no message it starts in the start screen and you see the browse button then a second later it crashes

I don’t work for Topaz I was curious as it would be a shame to loose it

It still seems to work for me on Windows 10, so you’ll need to be more specific about your system info.

The Windows Reliability Monitor might give some insight into the cause.

I also use windows 10
Earliest i can see it start was the beginning of this month, heres some footage from multiple different people, i personally have reinstalled drivers
Rolled back windows, checked event viewer, uninstalled topaz completely, from regedit to my appdata and program files , i even booted windows safe mode and that time i didn’t even get to the main topaz screen it crashed instantly, ive tried messing with random things, nothing has worked

I have attached some footage and a screen shot of multiple other people experiencing the exact same problem ***
Topaz footage.zip (9.2 MB)

As a quick test I ran the program and carried out a short upscale using a model I didn’t already have downloaded. The model downloaded and processed the video as normal. So there should be no server related reason stopping the program working.

Clearly nothing has changed with the program itself, but something system related might have. I notice all the video captures in the zip file are from Windows 11.

Unless users experiencing this problem post detailed system info, logs and Windows Reliability Monitor reports, I don’t see this being solved, as I doubt the devs are going to provide much support for a version from over 3 years ago. So any effort to find the cause would have to come from the community.

I figured the devs might be useless since it came out a while ago, it just works best for alot of stuff i do, me and one the guy from the screen shot know each other and use windows 10 then we experienced this issue and noticed others did aswell, so i guess ill have to do my own research unless someone find a solution, i will boot off another ssd and try it there, maybe ill then find something

Yeah, the last time I used it was at the beginning of September, and it worked fine.
But today, when I tried to upscale a video, the software closed automatically after flashing the splash screen for a second.
( Using 2.6.4 version )

I’m facing a similar issue, I faced it initial (over a month ago) and solved it by setting your PCs date and time accurately

Is there any official statement about this?
I’m unable to upgrade my computer for upscaling, so I would like to continue using v2.6.4

same exact issue here its been happening for about a month but if it is windowed if you spam the short cut on your desk top sometimes it will stay open for me

If you delete the file “version.dll” it will not close automatically. but, I am not able to see the models afterwards. that’s the problem now.

maybe if we can figure out how to re add the models then itll work the sooner someone out there figures this out the sooner we can have 2.6.4 back, ill look into seeing if there’s any info on what version.dll does, if theres some sort of pointer for it maybe a patch could be made to return an id that is something other than whatever is causing the crash

Also a 2.6.4 user, still far and away the best version and interface. Only the multi-GPU rendering improvements would make it perfect.

No issues here on my end, Windows 10.

Sky, whats your account under for the license to the older version of the app? Since this is an older release, the support is limited as it has not been updated to work with newer OS updates and hardware but nothing has changed on the server side for access to the models for users who are still running it.

Can you try manually grabbing the logs from Windows Explorer and sending them to the support team for review? help@topazlabs.com

This is the default file path that they should be located in:
C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Topaz Labs LLC\Video Enhance AI\Logs

I managed to revive 2.6.4 by deleting version.dll, I downloaded the models by periodically inserting version.dll back, and then deleting it
