Topaz Video 1.6.1 - Patch

Just FYI Mayday, I have an LG C5 and it does not seem like 48fps is supported without VRR turned on. But I can’t be sure since it’s hard to tell why things look wrong, if it is the Topaz file or the TV not supporting the frame rate.

Wanted to ask the thread if I will I get any better results for Topaz, more natural movement, by changing the sensitivity from 10, or by using Tiff instead of mkv video, or by changing dynamic bitrate to constant bitrate when exporting as video (mkv)? If I use constant what do I put for bitrate?

Also, doesApollo do a good job with 5x (i.e. 120hz)? My PC actually seems to have a native resolution in the menu which is exact (up to 2 decimals) 5x or 23.973fps so maybe that is supported on my TV but not 47.952, or even 48.

When is version 1.7.0 going to be released? I feel like it’s been a while since the last update.

It’s on the 2nd BETA. So might be a while..

Unfortunately sensitivity setting or Tiff/PNG output or bitrate change has no effect on temporal movement consistency, movements gets not smoother. PNG is lossless, same as you do FFV1 output, means it is without compression losses. Quantization codecs (264,h265,ProRes), when choosing higher bitrate there, then it does less quantization, less compression artefacts and more “keep grain”.

Yesterday, all the major retailers increased the price on all the latest Nvidia GPUs, where the Nvidia RTX 5090, for example, went up another $500. This card is now over $2000 more than its original starting MSRP of $2799 when it was first introduced in early 2025. Sad times.

That’s crazy, I payed about 2600$ for my 5090, and I thought that was incredibly expensive

But a RTX 5070 Ti 16G has still the same price since a year ago.. in Europe it’s around 960€
A RTX 5090 is now around 4200€

With regard to speeding up the Starlight models by first reducing the frame rate of the source video:

When reducing the framerate, say from 30 to 15fps, does interpolation do nothing to improve the quality? Like, it’s better to just use a tool that discards half the frames than to use something like the high quality version of Aion to make the new 15 fps version look less choppy by interpolating the frames so they appear to blend into one another better?

Or is that especially pointless when my final step is to use Aion to increase the fps back to 30, anyway.

Back when I had an RTX 3070 and Aion ran poorly if at all on it, I wouldn’t have considered it, but my 5090 crushes Aion compared to my old card.

In my mind the main benefit would be that you aren’t just “throwing away” half the frames if you used interpolation to reduce the frame rate, you would be making 1 real frame out of 2 real frames.

As paying customer I am disappointed Topaz does not improves its models two times or once a month (Wonder 3, others), but releases cosmetic updates or small bug fixes.
We pay hundreds of dollars and get rare product updates. This cannot be like that any further. Somebody from Topaz who reads this - really people go back to work!

Topaz Photo AI - what a joke.
Topaz Video AI - Prcesise model - when a serious update to this? what a joke stuff.

I use free ComfyUI with Adonis lora and Flux 9b Klein - this thing does true miracles, for free, not only improving details in images, but fixing smooth skin and blurred faces to look like DSLR quality photography.
ComfyUI is free. You take hell lot of money from us and so far I see the updates of Topaz Photo AI, Gigapixel as joke. Almost no serious updates for months. go back to work and provide a plan for serious product updates OR you will have less and less customers!
I pay for product updates and not bs updates.

30 down to 15 doubles the speed, but for me that’s not an option. Aion also takes a lot of time. If second-best choice is ok, you can use Apollo.

However, every second frame is interpolated, which produces a lower-quality frame than the 15 original frames you dropped. I never want drop good frames

What is worth checking is whether reverse telecine to 23.976 fps is possible. If the source comes from a DVD, it often is, although it can be difficult when the content contains mixed stuff, progressive/interlaced material.

I have seen speed increase if video is very short, around 10 to 30 frames, run faster than longer videos, and really fast on Mac, i even see the speed between 0.5 to 2 on mac. I think the same might happen with Windows.

Don’t think this is the platform for this find of blatant ranting..
This forum is for user input and beta testers. If you have better (free) alternatives why not just stick to those and cancel your Topaz plan?

Just stop sucking up to Topaz. Have some dignity and be grateful to what I wrote there giving you free instruction on Comfy, Flux 9B Klein + Adonis Lora.
Looking at you I still see you will not know how to use that properly, anyway.

They take a lot of money and don’t update these apps for months.
I pay money and have right to write constructive criticism.
It is a FACT. We paid, no updates. 3 apps - Photo AI, Video AI, Gigapixel. No updates. just insignificant fixes. I paid already, yearly, so do not write me what I should or not do.

I was expecting Topaz company to respond and update their apps, further train models to improve what they offer. I did not ask you to waste my time answering this.

"Photo AI, Video AI, and Gigapixel have been discontinued; the current and actively updated programs are now the ones without the ‘AI’ suffix.

First, please keep things civil on the forum when addressing other users.

Second, the model training and updates take time to develop and the team is actively working on future updates. There are several issues that the dev team is working on and testing out in beta releases.

There were multiple updates pushed out in 1.3.1-1.6.0 that were adding in new models, features, and tools, and this led to several issues that need to be addressed. An update will be pushed as soon as it is ready for release by the team.

LMAO. Im not going to dignify that with a direct answer as you clearly have issues with yourself and have no clue how things work over here..

Take a chill pill. If ComfyUI and disassembling your videos into chunks and reassembling then works so much better for you then I think you should focus on making that process better. Topaz is not in the business of releasing technical proofs of concept, they are in the business of delivering finished products.

As someone who spent almost my entire working career in the computer software business (starting in 1985) I can tell you that software development is not a smooth process. Sometimes you can deliver major updates every month or so, and other times it can take a year or more.

That is simply the way it is. I’ve been using Topaz products for over 6 years and I can tell you that they have made tremendous progress and have constantly improved their offerings. Right now, they are focusing on stomping out bugs and optimizing the models. The neuroserver is a new way of managing model implementation and that is where development is focused.

If you are dissatisfied then you need to take that up with Topaz Labs directly. Posting rants on the community forum just makes you look like an internet troll.

ComfyUI and disassembling your videos into chunks and reassembling

It seems like he was talking about photos—I’m not sure about that since I haven’t used it. But regarding video, the alternative I know of is comfyui SeedVR2. It has a lot of settings that you still need to figure out, and personally, I couldn’t get it to work properly on my 5070. Aside from taking much longer to process and delivering worse quality than slp 2.5, it kept throwing errors related to insufficient RAM or VRAM. I didn’t know about slp 2.5 back then, but when I tried it, it turned out to be a great solution since it ran faster and worked in 1 click without any configuration, not to mention producing better output quality. Overall, I don’t think there’s a decent alternative to Topaz for video, at least on consumer GPUs

Dianac and others are right about your stance and you’re not the only one who has complained, just your basal points of view don’t hold up - specifically regarding VIDEO. On the other hand, I do indeed agree your sentiment ever so slightly; it really frustrates me that topaz labs switched from one time purchases to the sub model, but other than the obvious consistent monthly monetary value reasons - this is textbook what companies do when you see the writing on the wall for a possible Adobe buy-out. Topaz Labs have done a realistically poor job rolling out their new pricing, it’s been a heavy stumble and I’d argue they’re still not over the hurdle. I’ll just say that Rhea and Proteus are nothing to be glossed over. People with relatively low to mid end hardware can create great results. All that being said, I’m optimistic about AMD support and improvements (when comparing 16GB cards from Nvidia v AMD running SL locally for example). I’m hoping my patience is well placed and furthermore, seeing ForSerious’s posts make me more confident that its only a matter of time to when lots of bugs are fixed and this software suite is back to making huge strides. As Dianac said, software dev is not linear, its full of ebbs and flows.
