Topaz Video 1.0.2 - Patch with Plugins

Please fix the tiling-issues, if possible! It is the only actual artifacting that remains, including the garbled text…

In this video remaster of mine, based on SD PAL, one can see the tiling, for instance at 02:17:

If double the processing time would make them disappear, I would personally be game.
An extra Starlight Mini HQ setting, where the tiles blend together.

Is it the case into Topaz Video Stalight 2x works, 3x is missing and 4x does 2x, so there is only 2x?

When I forced 4K with my SD source then Starlight in fact did 4x .

Selecting 4x turned out to be about 2x.

With other resolutions this might of course vary so it’s a case of trial and error again - which definitely shouldn’t be with a want-to-be professional app at this quite insane price point.

Thanks for the info. So you must do 4k, even you don’t want, for example having 360p source 4x gives you 1440p but Topaz does 2160p and I heard there is a problem with 4:3 sources or does this works? …and 3x is missing.

Sorry, my patience is running out, we pay founder, this must be corrected immediately; it is unacceptable. I will remain on V7 until Studio is at least as good.

What is Best Practices for updating? Is it still don’t update from the app but use the DMG or Pkg? And which one is recommended if that is the case. I”m on a M3 Max of course. Thanks!

Can you specify how you are ‘forcing’ 4K? In the Output resolution selection dropdown, we have the 2X and 4X Upscale choices, a 3840x2160 (4K) choice and Custom resolution. Which one are you using to assure that 4X is actually 4X and not 2X?

I agree with you that this is exceptionally poorly implemented and needs to be corrected if TL is to be taken seriously as a viable professional application.

4x didn’t do 4x. Setting the 4K resolution then resulted in the 4x model being used.

Even with the 4K setting I didn’t really check the output files real resolution if it was „standard“ 4K or 4x resolution of the source or something in between as I really couldn’t care less for that (the player will scale it to the display res. at playback anyways).

What I do care about though is the better quality of the 4x model vs. 2x especially regarding logos/text. And with output set to 4K I could clearly see that the 4x model was used while with the 4x setting it was not.

Be aware that this behaviour might well vary on the sources resolution so you will have to try yourselves for every different video. Very lame.

This version is causing huge problems for me. Older models, like Artemis HQ and Gaia HQ, completely freeze my computer when I use HD or higher input resolutions. Proteus seems to work okay, though. Is anyone else experiencing this? I had to go back to v5 :(.

My PC specs are:
OS: Windows 11 25H2
CPU: Ryzen 9 7950X
GPU: RTX 5090
RAM: 64GB

I would send the error log, but it’s impossible because after the computer freezes and I have to do a forced restart, the log file is empty (0 kilobytes).

I’ve encountered such problems with MP4 container at 7 version, can’t remember exact numbers.

Switching to MKV or MOV container fixed the problem.

But if you have already encoded MP4 files, you can simply remux it:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mp4

Last time I used the DMG I lost my user presets. So now I only use the in-app update or the PKG.

Topaz made a bad and lazy decision to store some user preset data inside the app bundle for Mac users (only). I guess that was because Topaz were already storing their own presets there.

I got the workspace folder settings to change by deleting current project and creating a new project with the desired workspace path.

I converted an mov pro res 704x480 progressive video to starlight sharp at FHD (1920x1080) and its only producing 1440x1080. Any ideas?

In contrary I think it`s VERY good that on the Mac those apps store everything that belongs to them in the apps own folder.

That way you don`t get conflicts when you have two or more different versions of the apps intalled (e.g. 5.3.6 plus 7.0.2) - so no issues here like you have on Windows.

It appears we have a difference of opinion on this, which of course is fine.

The thing is, Topaz don’t store everything that belongs to them in their app’s own folder. There is the separate preferences file, which is as it should be. Also, Topaz use separate app and folder names for the new v1 so TVAI and Topaz Video can both co-exist with no problems on Mac and Windows anyway.

The Topaz user preset storage location is an anomaly for Mac only.

My main concern is: Are other Mac users who have created their own presets expected to know they need to copy their own preset json files out first, then copy them back in again after updating the app, IF they update using the DMG method? I think that’s a bit much to expect.

Perhaps most users who download the DMG haven’t created their own presets and so haven’t experienced any issues in that regard.

Long as it is in sequence. A_01, A_02, A_03 will all be tied together when you drag them all in a project.

Here’s a weird one: Microsoft introduced a bunch of bugs with the 25H2 update. After last night’s system update, Topaz Video started working on its own. I didn’t touch or reinstall anything. Truly incredible!

Hello I downloaded Topaz Video (I have that in my subscription) but every time I install it it stops working since claims my license is over. But I bought it yesterday!

@dakota.wixom It’s been several weeks since there has been no new Video AI beta. Is this normal? I also have a problem with the software, before I could choose Pro when I installed And now when I install this version I no longer have the display of proposals to choose Pro, can you help me? Thank
