Topaz Studio | Transition Questions

Well no Mac users should continue with Topaz then. Thanks for advise. Just cancelled all 3 subscriptions. Time to move on.

Image was shot with 200MM zoom (non professional) and then cropped quite heavily. So not of the best.

Hello, to be clear - you will still get patch updates, but new AI models and new features will be going into the Studio products, not the perpetual license products.

I was already perfectly clear about that. Let me make myself clear if I can. You are going to withhold any features from the perpetual licence versions if they’re released after Sep 16. I’ve paid for those new features, in good faith, until late November (20th for Photo AI, 24th for Gigapixel AI). I expect you to honour that agreement or I want my money back.

We actually paid for unlimited upgrades

Not just updates…
I still say that the currently unreleased 8.5 and whatever would come next during the rest of your period should come to your perpetual version and not just stay ā€œfor rentā€. Anything else enters into the realms of fraude, and there’s really not anything any staff can say to change my mind about that…

But hey! At least you get to rent the new stuff.

Thanks for the reply.

Not impressed with the Wonder image. Thank you for the comparison.

Hmm, yet another reason NOT to extend the ā€žsubscriptionā€œā€¦
But then Apple support has been quite lacklustre in the last month anyways with those ongoing issues with e.g. M3 chips or just very simple things as support of iOS HEIC images or UI bugs or the ever occurring crash at exit with about all last betas,or…

And it has, of course, a not-crippled-down Mac version and is available as a one- time purchase without subscription.

Denoising you could still use your old/legacy version of TPAI…

If I understand correctly, I will receive the PhotoAI part and the corresponding updates from Topaz Studio until the end of the upgrade subscription. Is this correct?
I think it’s a real shame that they’re abandoning the current licensing model in favor of a subscription model. I’m not a fan of such models and will consider whether to sign up for such a subscription in due course.
Most of the functions of PhotoAI I don’t use. I only need denoising and sharpening, upscaling only from time to time. For all other functions I used my image editing software.

I see some people who don’t like subscription models indicated they are moving to another products which are offered without a subscription model. IMHO many companies will be moving to the subscription model. That is not ā€œifā€ but ā€œwhenā€.

That’s correct!

Well until that happens we will continue to purchase non subscription software and then continue using what we have when the others make the change.

Yes, but will the existing features be fixed, ie. the version 2 superfocus function overcooks the focus, starting at setting 1, forget about sliding up to 10 or 15 (out of 0 - 100)?

I only ask that features offered through version 4.0.3 work correctly, as all updates since then seem to only involve on-line processing. As far as PhotoAI goes, NOTHING since my renewal expired is for my Asus cpu/gpu, which is why I never renewed for THAT app either. Ask if I feel abandoned….

Hi I am confused my renewal for VideoAI is up today, am I best of letting it lapse and moving over to Topaz Studio?

And after that there will be open source software.

True, I already use several open source programs that are quite good.

@dakota.wixom Ok my Video AI license ran out two days ago. I didn’t received the founder email on Friday, so I am feeling a bit stitched up at the moment. What is my best course of action at present?

@dakota.wixom Hi there, thanks for all the efforts!
I have two products in my account,
Gigapixel AI and
Photo AI,
both have NOT an active upgrade license at the moment.
If I upgrade the licenses NOW (before September 15th), will I be eligable for the new complete Topaz Studio (owning 2+ products)?

During checkout, it says Photo AI will be available until September 15th 2025 (then autorenew?),
while Gigapixel until September 8th 2026!!

This gets me confused and wondering if it won“t work out for the complete Studio version?

What counts as ā€œnew AI modelsā€? new names only? or updated models of Starlight Mini, when new software updates are released like from Topaz VAI 7.1.3 to VAI 7.1.4 etc?
