Hey Paul - sorry to hear that. Yeah you will still have access to the latest version of the software that you’ve upgraded for + patches. New AI models and new features will only be coming to the Studio version of the app.

All existing subscriptions were signed up to by us, the customers, under the assumption that the updated apps would allow perpetual use, and new models would be part of those updates - as it has been for years.
There just ain’t no way for Topaz to talk themselves out of the fact that those with a subscription active after 9/16 will not be getting what they paid for. There is a legal term for that which I won’t repeat here.

Then you’re in breach of contract - I’ve paid for updates until late November for two of your apps, and now you’re telling me I won’t get them after 16 September? That’s despicable.

The Redefine model is amazing and we see a ton of usage here - but it still has lots of flaws in terms of quality and performance. It will need a an entirely new model architecture to deal with these issues across all platforms. The Bloom model is closest to where we are looking to take creative upscaling.
Redefine will still be available in Gigapixel and in the Studio version, but we’re looking to build something better in future updates of Studio.
We are still very much prioritizing local rendering for the Studio apps. You don’t need to use cloud credits if you own the desktop apps (including the current versions or studio versions) as long as your machine fits the performance specs.
Unfortunately Apple devices aren’t going to be the best way to access the most powerful AI models at this time though, I’d recommend a different platform and GPU setup if you always want the latest and greatest for local rendering - and you’ll definitely want a discrete GPU.
Our existing traditional upscaling models are still super fast and run on all systems, but the newer diffusion models require… meaty hardware these days
On1 Resize (judging from the standalone, of which I have a trial until I get PR 2026) is just as good if not better than Wonder. Where it falls down so far is on denoising and sharpening.

If you own only one product on an active/subscribed license then you’ll get that version of the product “Topaz Studio” in this case with the latest updates. If you purchase an additional product prior to the transition date you’ll actually get the entire Studio bundle which includes all Topaz desktop apps + cloud apps, which is a heck of a deal. We’ll be sending out more information about this. Let me know if you have any questions.
That’s correct - and also “founder” status in the Studio versions of the apps if you maintain your subscription.

By the way, a couple beta testers have shared their experiences here with the new models. Now, the models certainly didn’t come alone but with a “shell” in form of a new GPAI version. To the beta testers out here: Was that “shell” a Gigapixel AI user interface, was it the ominous “Studio” thing or was is something completely different such as an online playground for the new models?

The betas have the standard Gigigapixel/Photo AI interface, with some minor tweaks. So there’s no reason Topaz couldn’t release them to current subscribers prior to Sep 16.

No change to your perpetual licensed versions. We’ll install in a separate directory, they will be untouched and will continue to work (on their current versions)
We won’t withdraw anything, of course. You’ll continue to be able to access your perpetual apps, that’s very much part of our transition plan.

What are your active licenses? I can tell you what your transition bundle will look like.

- If they purchase Video AI now they get a perpetual license + future subscription access to Topaz Video. If they purchase after the transition date, only the subscription option will be available (Topaz Video)
To be clear, the Studio versions of the desktop apps are available for local rendering just like before.
