Topaz Photo AI v3.4.0 - v3.4.2

Never seen this before. Was this image cropped in another program by chance? Let me know if this happens on other images.

I think some were cropped in On1PR, but when I realized crops were being applied without warning I reset everything and tried again. With no luck.
It’s not happening in Sharpen AI
It happened again today and I didn’t realize it had been cropped until after it was saved, since “crop” was added to the suffix

  • Disabled super focus on Macs with AMD Radeon graphics cards for now. We are working on a long-term fix here.

Is that fixed?

Sending the same file to TSAI. No cropping without warning.

The crop tool is very jerky when trying to resize the crop area using a handle. It will also jump to a different size. Here are the settings I used. My GPU is a AMD RX 5600XT card with 6GB memory.
Update: After updating my AMD video driver to 24.12.1 the crop stuttering went away. It now works smoothly.

After testing, unfortunately, we are not expecting Intel CPU/AMD Radeon GPUs to be able to run the stable diffusion based models such as Remove and Super Focus. These models have higher requirements that the other models, and AMD GPUs on Mac don’t work because of how they are integrated compared to Windows.

Macs with Intel AMD CPUs are not optimal for AI processing altogether, and we mention this in our System Requirements: System Requirements | Topaz Photo AI - We added the Super Focus mention as well on release of the tool:

However, all the other models which are not stable diffusion based (Denoise. Raw Denoise, Sharpen, Recover faces, Upscale, Lighting and Color, Preserve text) will all continue to work with your AMD GPU.

My M2 Pro 12/19/16 Mac 32gb/1tb is running Ventura 13.7.2. I did not update to Sonoma and have not yet updated to Sequoia. Looking at the new features in Sonoma and Sequoia I have not seen anything I care about, but if Topaz run faster on them than Ventura then that would be a good reason to update my MacOS.

I have heard conflicting statements saying the Neural Engine is faster in Sonoma and faster yet in Sequoia and other statements saying it has gotten slower and is actually faster in Ventura. Some have said that Sequoia also uses a lot more memory.

I am not against updating to Sequoia, but since there are no new features I have seen so far that I care about then I am in no hurry – always a chance with a MacOS update to introduce new problems. But if there are performance improvements for Topaz then I would then have a good reason to update.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Posting this in case anyone experiences this:

CRASH ON OS 15 MAC

  • The development team has found that deleting a core ML folder seems to fix crashes issues and has tested with some users that were having similar issues and are on this OS.
  • This is the step: Delete CoreML Cache Folder
  • Important: Use the path with the tilde sign, like this one ~/Library/Application Support, this will bring you to the correct Application Support folder, that is in USERS folder, then in the folder with your computer name.

DOWNLOADING MODELS POP-UP ON MAC

  • Missing models means that a security program on your computer blocked some of the AI models from downloading.
  • Because the models were previously blocked from downloading, it’s very important to momentarily turn off any security software you have before re-installing. This can be VPN, proxy, firewall, anti-virus software for example. You may need to test rerunning the installer below with a mobile hotspot, to rule out the router being the issue.
  • Once all security features turned off, rerun a fresh installer: Photo AI v3.4.1 - Mac: Download
  • If the pop-up persists, send Open Photo AI and gather logs: Help > Open Logs folder, Zip all the logs and send us an email at support@topazlabs.com with a mention of the steps you tested (firewall/anti-virus/hotspot) and we can have a look!

I would wait as we are still seeing some issues on OS 15. The Core steps I posted above seem to fix it for now, however we are still testing with users to make sure it’s a permanent fix!

The 3.4.1 setup does not offer me the opportunity to choose the installation path. It just wants to “install”. Edit: I think it confused with the installation path of the seperate beta version. :eyes:

Seems like creative face recovery just adds a blur filter over faces now, might want to look into that and revert the model if it was updated. It seemed fine before this update.

I’m having the same experience with the Intro Videos that several of us reported during the beta. It’s impossible to turn off those tutorials in Edit > Prefs.

When I set the switch to Off the “Save” greys out and it’s impossible to save that Pref for the videos to not appear upon every start.

I tried closing PAI 3.4.1 and relaunching it after turning both the sample images and tutorial video Pref switches to Off. The 1st time, both the sample images and the tutorial videos re-appeared anyway. The 2nd time, I rebooted my Win 11 PC and the sample images were gone but the Prefs switch for the tutorial videos was turned back on, the video pop-up was in the workspace and it cannot be turned off. Permanently. I don’t want to have to “x” it out every time. See snips below.

I don’t care how sexy the gravelly-voiced presenter may sound, I honestly don’t need those tutorials to pop up every time I launch PAI. I could present my own tutorials on how to use the products
so I’d prefer that when I turn a Pref off it saves and does what’s requested. Thx!

I’ll send you an mp4 of it happening so you can see. Sometimes it turns the ‘show sample images’ switch back ‘On’ in Prefs. But then what happens is the Video Preview pops up in the center of the UI workspace. I don’t want either the sample images or the tutorials to appear after I’ve turned both Prefs options to ‘Off’. I just tried to send, but mp4 format cannot be accepted and I don’t see a Dropbox link to upload in this thread.

I can verify that the High Fidelity V2 grid artifacts are resolved in PAI.

Now we just need it implemented for GPAI as well

Sorry :frowning: I have attached it to this post

The issue of freckles appearing on the face when restoring the face from version to version is still not resolved. Sadly((((. Personally, this moment is very important to me. Bring back at least what was already in version 3.2.1

Hi Dakota.
I have done some further investigation. It is puzzling. It only seems to be happening with some DNG files from one particular folder of photos dating back to 2015. Other folders from the same year don’t appear to have been affected, but of course I can’t swear to that, since it would take too long to investigate thoroughly.
Back then I used to convert my ARW files to DNG when importing to Lightroom. I no longer do that, or indeed use LR. I have downloaded an original from my Cloud backup set and it is still happening. But there is no way of knowing if it got corrupted. The crop that is applied on loading into TPAI standalone is totally random and varies from image to image. This is an example.

I know this can’t be a bug per se, since it is not affecting every file, but I’d be grateful if you could examine one of these files to see if you can replicate the issue and offer an opinion.
I am on an M4 Mac mini with 24GB RAM, running the latest version of Sequoia.

Hi,
I wanted to point out that “scale” does not show up when using Topaz AI upscale in Photoshop.
PS

but it works in standalone app
Topaz

Any suggestions?
Cheers

Hi.

This is happening because, you’re accessing Photo AI from the Filter Menu and not File Automate.

Simply select the Layer goto the File Menu then Click on Automate and select Topaz Photo AI

You’re now be able to scale the image from within Photo AI

Hope this helps

I see the same thing except I’m never presented with the demo video.
