- When are you going to fix the regular select brush in the sharpen module? It hasn’t worked since version 2.3.2. This is my biggest problem with the new version. I can’t refine the subject selection to be sharpened with any reliability.
- The program still crashes in the middle of a remove operation.
- Will you give us the ability to run multiple versions of Photo AI? Adobe supports this for Photoshop and its very useful. I would love to be able to see how the new versions work without removing the older version.
You can run more than one version. Just put them on different partitions.
Download the installer from Topaz, instead of an in-app update. When you get the part of the installation where it asks if you want it installed in the default location, choose the other partition. On a Mac that’s a different Volume. On a PC its a different lettered drive (though I’ve only done it on Mac).
I keep 2.3.2 handy for anything with text in it, and also have a new version which I update whenever Topaz has a release. This should not be necessary but it works.

Overall, it’s a significant improvement. It is faster, and seems to do a better job than recent versions. However, there are at least two major issues that must be fixed, and a bug found:
Major issue 1: Preserve Text still fails. It is exactly the same as recent versions. There is no purpose in posting new examples, they look identical to the others I’ve sent. There is truly no excuse for this. It works nicely in 2.3.2. It was already an optional feature with its own Select function. – Use that one in your current versions. Do this before BEFORE adding any new features. Fix what is broken.
Major issue 2: The remove tool is great, and seems to work better in this version than recent ones, though this could be random luck with the images I’ve tried. But there is no way to make it default to Quality maximised – I don’t want it to ever run in any other way. The problem is compounded greatly by the fact that you can only undo everything, including the selections if a mistake is made in setting the Quality level. If undo kept the selections, one could change settings or brush out any parts that did not do what was desired (or brush them smaller and more specific).
Bug: If you open a raw file and AutoPilot does not choose to Denoise, and then you add Denoise, it does not go to Raw Denoise. You can get this mode by manually moving it to be first in the stack, but it should do this automatically by default. It makes it far too easy to miss one of TPAI’s big benefits.

Mine crashed too during a remove operation - a hard lock crash too. Even ctrl alt del did not work - had to shut down and re boot.
I just went through another remove operation where it actually worked - except for the painfully slow selection brush. The crashes are frequent, but I have been able to get remove to work a few times. The sad thing is I’ve got one photo where the PhotoAI remove function gives me better AI results than the one in Photoshop.
The Windows installer doesn’t give me the option to install on another drive. I could try changing the default application directory for all Windows apps, but that wouldn’t change the user appdata directory where some of the Topaz files are stored.
Yes.
But without FancyZones to anchor it in place, the Photo AI window gets a little larger and moves higher up the screen (by about a titlebar worth) every time the application is closed and reopened.
Something is broken in its ability to remember its own size and position.
I’m not seeing the minimize/maximize part of the problem though.
So still no fix for Capture One users! It’s now been nearly 2 months since it worked for us.
Do you not care at all about your Capture One customers??
Are we going to get a refund for the time we haven’t been able to use Topaz as we could before 3.0.0?
Are you ever going to fix it??
Yes the problem is as a supplemental editing program. The option to export files as DNG is there in preferences. However when it comes time to export TIFF is the only option. This adds an extra step in my workflow. Having to use Photo AI as an external editor.
Not sure why this is causing this tiff export only problem, because it sounds like TPAI would be operating the same way as it does as a standalone app, and Elements is just giving it the file. Does Elements Organizer have any configurable options about supplementary editing applications?
I presume you don’t have any export limitations when just using TPAI only?
Hi please see some issues I am having with your software, I hope you can help …
I cannot use TP AI v3.0.3; the software freezes. I have to Force Quit to use my screen.
I get warnings about Application memory but that doesn’t ring true when I check specs. I am using a MacBook Pro, Apple M1 Max running on Sonoma OS 14.5.
On the Topaz site I read about plist files and removed them and downloaded the software again. I have done this three times. I note I can get a JPG file to work if I wait a long time for it to appear, but to work the file process enlarge etc would likely take hours. The files I want to use are PShop: TIF, RAW and DMG but neither load, the files sizes are from 15MB to 200MB.
Please see the log files and system report below
Thanks in advance,
Derek K

3.03 exporting to LRC as TIFFs not DNGs. Come on Topaz, please sort yourselves out - I want to edit photos not uninstall and reinstall software continually!
Note - 3.03 writes TIFFs when I process 28 images, but DNGs when I process 10!!!
When you had TPAI process 28 images did you use “Adjust Lighting” or “Balance Color”?
No, used neither. I am processing raw files
Is this bug fixed?
Interesting I’m using a WIN10 PC and the output is a DNG when going from LrC via plugin-extras.
Using “plug-in extras” on a DNG file in Lightroom Classic, we do indeed now have the option to “overwrite” or “edit a copy”. However, “editing a copy” sends a TIFF to TPAI, not a DNG, which makes the edit option here pointless.
Edit: okay, it’s sending a TIFF if the DNG already has any Lr adjustments, a DNG if not. I suppose that makes sense, but it would be preferable to be able to send a DNG regardless; we already have the “edit in” option if we want to send a TIFF with adjustments.
Minor: the returned DNG isn’t getting added to a stack with the source.
HI,
just tried sending DNG file with lightroom adjustment/edit a copy, it did send dng file to TPAI, AS RAW DENOISE was activated, if it was tiff it wont. also exported back to lightroom as DNG unstack
Hmmm… yes, trying a third example it’s sending a DNG. I’m not sure why I’m getting inconsistent behaviour.
