Topaz Photo AI - Scaling dpi issue?

I use Gigapixel for months for upscaling my image and increase resolution (from 96 dpi to 150/300 dpi) and it works well. However, I try to do samething with Photo AI by specifying “IN” as unit of measure and the value “150” px/in and it doesn’t work as it should be; the new upscale picture is kept at 96 dpi instead of 150 dpi. I set both width and height value properly to Inch and px/in value to 150.

Is this a known issue ?

Topaz Photo AI [v2.0.1] on [Windows]

Images in general have pixels, not dots. The dots per inch refer to the output device, in this case: the printer.

In the Autopilot Preferences menu, you can set the output size and default resolution under the settings for the Upscale filter.

Resolution should be working as expected now. Please take a screen recording of this behavior so I can see exactly what is happening. Loom is a great free application for this: Download the Loom Desktop App | Loom

Here some print scren to show what I mean. At the left, you’ll see my setup in Topaz Photo, and at the right the setup in Gigapixel. Both use the same source file and I upscaled at the same size and resolution (150 px/in).

At the bottom, we see both output. The output from Gigapixel is 150 ppp and the one from Topaz Photo is 72 ppp.

I use Topaz Photo AI version 2.0.2. Is this behavior is expected ?

Does the file open up with incorrect resolution in other applications?

Could you send the output file from Topaz Photo AI? I saw an example of this previously where the File Explorer displayed the DPI incorrectly but other applications displayed it correctly.

You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

I’ve uploaded the pic on your drop box. I’ve open the file with Affinity Photo, and the picture is viewed as 72dpi too.
