Topaz Photo Ai either failed to start or did not finish successfully Win 11 + LR12.2.1

Newly installed. Getting the above message after asking Photo Ai to save ie after it has removed noise.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. open photo in LR develop mode
  2. open Topaz Photo Ai via plug-in extras ask to edit a copy
  3. finishes removing noise
  4. Click save > process> finish > save
5 Then get the msg above BUT the saved verison has had the noise removed

Any ideas what is going on and how to resolve. NB Not great at computers so any advice in simple non lingo language if at all possible please, Thanks

Update - I have also noticed that if I open Topaz Photo Ai via Plug-in extras then close ie dont save get same error msg. BUT if open via Edit-in, no error msg. Hope this helps in explaining/solving?

Topaz Photo AI [v1.3.0] on [Windows 11 home 22H2

Hi @NLisRED, I’ll send this over to our Photo AI specialist, but first I’d like to check if running a new copy of the Photo AI installer fixes this for you.

Please click the download link here to get a new copy of the Photo AI 1.3.0 installer, run it and click Repair when prompted. Make sure Lightroom is closed when running this again.

After, please check if the same behavior occurs.

Hi @preston.werner Thank you for taking the time to reply. In short no joy. To fill you in a bit. Since posting I had tried a repair, uninstalled (though keeping certain data (cant remember precisely what was asked - didnt want to loose my validation data so wasnt sure at that point), rebooted, fresh install of 1.3.0. I also noted that if I work in LR via Edit-in, Topaz Photo Ai (TPAi) is fine inc saving. If via Plug-in extras, TPAi might spontaneously close with the same message or at the end of all the processing gibe that message. Most of the time without saving anything (even though the process said had saved) but occasionally it does save. Now, TBH again, I have managed to contact support directly again, since posting and have supplied DxDiag (?) info too. So not to increase your colleagues workload perhaps there is a way to link this to my pre-existing request? In appreciation for your help.

@preston.werner Hi. Just FYI (and anyone else who reads this post), it seems this is a known bug which TopazLabs is working on to resolve: “Thanks for reaching out and reporting this issue. This is a known issue that we are currently investigating and working on solving.”

I believe we were in contact through our support channel. Yes this is a known issue and the developers have enough information to investigate and work on a fix.

It seems that Topaz Photo AI is crashing after finishing processing. In most cases the file will import back to Lightroom as it has already finished processing.

The next release has a potential fix for this.

Is there any update to this? I just updated Topaz AI after the first install last month and this started happening. (it didn’t before). Is there a way to re-install older version. It could be with the latest update which defeats the purpose of updating it when it’s bricking it. Super expensive for this to fail like this

Hi
Agree! I’ve been in contact with Topaz as post update to TPAi to 1.3.2 I still get the same meassage AND now it wont save the crop. I was told the following "Apologies for the issues with crop. We do test extensively but issues can still slip through the cracks. We currently are aiming for 96% updates without requiring a hotfix (immediate release to fix a newly introduced and high impact issue).

At the moment we are assessing the extent of this issue. At the latest, we will release a fix on next Thursday."

This I assume refers to both the error message and its issues of sometimes not saving and the crop issue.

We released v1.3.3 yesterday which has a fix for the crop issue in the LrC File > Plug-in Extras > Process with Topaz Photo AI workflow.

It should also have a fix for the exit code. Are you still seeing the exit code issue in the latest version?

If you are still seeing the exit code, follow the instructions in this video to send me the crashpad zip (Windows).

:grinning: delighted to say 1.3.3 has resolved all issues. Thank you.
