I’m using Topaz Photo AI 1.5.3 on an M1 Mac Mini running MacOS Ventura 13.5.1. The app itself works fine, but when I try to use the plugin from within either Photoshop 2023 or Affinity Photo 2.1.1, I get the following error message:
Cannot Proceed
Error: Topaz Photo AI is not installed.
A check of the plugins folders for both apps shows the Topaz plugins in place, and they appear in their respective filter menus in the apps (and yes, I turned-on Affinity’s “Allow unknown plugins to be used”).
I re-downloaded and re-installed Topaz Photo AI, but it made no difference. The plugins continue to think it’s not installed. As I said, the main app works fine, it’s just the plugins that aren’t working.
Thanks for reaching out. Did you move the Topaz Photo AI application to another folder on your computer? This error usually appears because the plugin is pointing to a specific location and moving the application breaks the plugin.
Please try rebooting your computer and then check if the plugins are still not working after you reinstalled Topaz Photo AI.
Thanks, yes that solved it. For the last 20 years, I’ve always created specific folders for my many non-Apple apps. That way, I can keep the app and all of the related files together, including my payment receipts, activation codes, installers, user manuals, quick start guides, previous versions of the app, and so on. This has always worked well, and I have never had a problem with any app until now. In any event, the plugins now work. (It occurs to me, however, that if the main app simply wrote its location into its prefs file, then the plugins could look in the prefs file, and the app’s location would not need to be fixed and hard-coded in the plugins.)
On another bug-related topic, what is the status of the grid overlay bug caused by upscaling jpegs? I eventually found a previous thread about this, but there was no resolution, and there has been no activity for months. Thanks for any info.

We can work on supporting moving the application to other locations in the near future.
We are working on a fix for the grid issue right now. We just finished fixing the Remove Noise - Raw tile/grid issue in our latest beta and will be releasing that in two weeks.
Once it’s confirmed to be working, we will do the same for Enhance/Upscale.
