I’m not sure if I’m missing anything but I’m using Topaz Video AI to upscale my 3D render passes. I need these passes to be 1:1 to the frame-rate and the timing to align 1:1 when I upscale to 4K. So for example if I add a 150frame TIF sequence that I want to upscale to 4K, I expect 150 frames upscaled. Instead what I’m seeing is that Topaz Video AI will output a dozen frames short. Also I’ve compared the upscales and the timing is way off, it seems like Topaz Video AI is re-timing my passes and I’ve disabled slow-motion and my frame-rates is matching. For the upscales I’m using the Proteus model/Chronos fast. I’ve double checked all my settings and there should be no reason why my passes are being re-timed. Does anyone have any idea why my passes are being retimed? These upscaled 4K outputs are basically un-usable in comp because nothing is aligning. Please advise and thank you.
Can you pull the logs and send to the support team directly for investigation on what is going on? If you are trying to do a 1:1 output it is not recommended to add Chronos Fast or any of the frame interpolation models onto the clip.
As Mayday mentioned there has been an issue with VFR exports that the team has been working on resolving in some situations.
It has to be VFR because I see no settings to disable Variable Frame Rates, infact the setting for ‘Keep Original Frame Numbers’ is enabled (There is no way to disabled AI models as it will force you to choose between Chronos Fast, Chronos, Aion, Apollo and Apollo Fast). This is super inconvenient and the biggest reason I purchased Topaz was to upscale my passes but it’s very unusable if my frames don’t align.
What is the frame rate of the original source video that you are bringing in? Is the app seeing it as a 24fps video or do you have the input preferences for image sequences set to something else?
If the app is seeing the image sequence as a different frame rate and you are telling it to export out as 24fps then it will lock the frame interpolation model and you will have to choose a model to use.
You can change the default import frame rate in the Preferences or click the input settings in the top right corner and tell the app to change the frame rate of this image sequence to 24fps and that will remove the frame interpolation model from the processing task.
If that does not help resolve the issue, please pull the logs and send to the support team for further investigation. help@topazlabs.com
I did not see that Gear setting right next to ‘Presets’ but yeah it was defaulting to 25fps, I just tested it out and now everything is aligning. Thank you so much!!!
