Topaz AI which GPU?

Ahh! So defenitely the 3060ti.

I don’t know why they state different clock speeds.
Which one would u go for? Just the cheapest?

I asked chatgpt about if my psu can handle the 3070 and it says I’d better upgrade the psu if I take the 3070:

GeForce 3070: The 3070 has a TDP ranging from 220W to 250W, depending on the model. This is getting close to the limit of your 560W PSU.

With a 560W PSU: You might get away with it, but you'd be pushing your PSU pretty hard. It might cause some instability or performance issues under heavy load. You might also experience higher temperatures and potentially even damage to your components if the PSU overheats.

Recommendations: For a 3070, it's recommended to upgrade your PSU to a 650W or 750W unit to provide enough power headroom for sustained high performance and to ensure the stability and longevity of your system.

While your 560W PSU might handle the 3070 in some scenarios, a higher wattage PSU is a safer and more future-proof choice for optimal performance and stability.
Remember: Always check the specific TDP of the 3070 model you’re interested in. Also, factor in the power draw of all your other components for a complete picture of your system’s power requirements.

My desktop PSU is 750W and I can run 2 RTX 3070 without any problem and a 7950X (previously 3900X)

Don’t forget GDDR6 is vastly unused, and only Tensor are used, so the chip is 50% used even if full loaded.
Each board will never draw its max TDP.

ChatGPT si a dumb, he adviced me TVAI as best AI upscaler  (kiding)

From whatever I might choose… would you do new or used? Or does it depend on if it was being used for mining?

For example the 3060ti starts at 375… 2nd hand I find them for 200 - 250

Could save me 175EUR

Cheapest 3070 New , is 475 EUR

Without any hesitation used cards. I suggest MSI Suprim, they are awesome for 7/24 use, kick ass cooling and good design. You will only get thermal grease leaking after a year, like all high end boards. Clean excess and re-run !

Forget Gigabyte they are pure bullshit.

Others brands are known to die prematurely.

I see new 800 eur. If I can find 2nd hand for less would be nice. And if the PSU can handle it.

What’s the cons of used cards? they could have been used for mining? or it doesnt matter?

Browse second-hand sites and eBay.
I got all of mine for €300 over a year ago.

Cons are minimals, if it look outside very clean, you risk low. If it is bumped, scratched, return it, that’s all.
I never got a Nvidia to die if not pushed at 100% 7/24.

If you are enough handyman, you can also buy server PSU, to feed them with 12V. It works perfectly. 3 wires 16AWG as common ground and the trick is done.
1200W server PSU is 50€, also they are designed to work 7/24, that is not the case of desktop PSU like Corsair aso

I agree on both points. MSI is a good brand. And there are not usually any issues with cards that have been used for mining.

I’m not that technical haha.
Is there anywhere I can double check/ verify a 3070 will work for sure in my setup? I’m so afraid of messing things up.
Anyone has a setup like mine with 3070 running?

Someone wrote me:

I have ryzen 5 and 3070 with 270w tdp and 500w seasonic platinum. All ok. It will work fine, but I’ve undervolted cpu to 45w and gpu to 180-200w.

So any MSI 3070 2nd hand would be ok? What about ASUS tuf?

Yes, I suggest this model

or this one
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/msi-rtx-3070-gaming-z-trio-lhr.b9081

TUF is also a good product, but commonly higher priced.

They are being offered locally here for the same price  TUF and the MSI

I’ve got both, no problem with one or the other.

Get the one with higher GPU clock speed. (not mem)

Hi Alpheratz and other people here, I just ordered a MSI GeForce RTX 3070 Gaming Z

This is a good choice, I’ll set up 3 of mines together with X
Focusing now to o/c core and downclock mem to see impact.

Unfortunately the benchmark suite is so poor and unreliable, we have to bench it iver a true encoding.

Hi Alpheratz!
I just installed the 3070. Works like a charm.

I’m fairly new to Topaz. I have my old video’s from childhood (tapes), which were converted to a DVD recorder and now years later I burned them on DVD and extracted them to my pc.

I wanna achieve the highest possible resolution.

I’m just experimenting with some settings.

I chose 4x upscale, Dione TV, 120FPS

Would this be the highest possible?
I tried Dione Dehalo, but it was just different, not really better or so.

I cannot remember which camera my parents used for the tapes. it was mid 90’s. around 1996

Hi

I am very happy for you that the 3070 works like a charm.

To me the best way to obtain high quality is to oversample original to x4 and build what is called a “master”. If you have enough RAM, output it to 8b 4:2:2 or 4:4:4 Then you start to work on it, removing noise, sharpening it aso… The final process should be downsamling.

This is what is done in the movie industry and in video games.

But … be carefull downsampling is the harmfull process, because it creates some artifacts or aliasing.
You should read this topic to perform it followinf your need and also what TVAI was able to output.

The last link is kind, because it live simulates rendering by clicking.
My favor goes to Calmut-ROM algorithm, an excellent comproise with sharpness and smoothing edges.
Best overall is Lanczos3 optimised with spatial sync (w/ Fourier’s transformations)

You can find it in many free encoder.
If you choose TVAI, Kyle said Theai was good for this treatment.

Again my favor goes to a CPU treatment because of floating point accuray. It is essential for downscaling.
Such downscaling should be run then on the most overkill CPU you have for best quality.
For compromise use TVAI or DVR Studio.

My personal process is

  • Upscale x4 with VSDC or TVAI depending on source.
  • Clean, sharpen, denoise, aso TVAI as an evidence saved as FFV1 of High profile HEVC
  • Downsample with SVT-AV1 because the only one to use 16 cores for encoding (2990WX)

1 week for 2 hour of 4K video
No compromise, it’s perfect or it’s not

Hi! Thanks for your explanation. This is all new to me. Seems difficult, I have to read it and learn it
Terms like Oversample I never heard of.

It seems but it isn’t you’ll learn it fast, don’t worry.

Last tip for your 3070, install MSI Afterburner, puch teh slider to 104% and that’s it. It will automatically overclock your board according to its abilities.

Oversample : Change resolution upper that the goal resolution, that’s all. It’s a trick to uncover the details

Thanks! I have changed the parameters.
Why didn’t they set it to 104 by default?
