Like most of you, the local model of Starlight runs incredibly slow for me.
I’m willing to put up with this to a certain extent buuut I’ve been pondering a video card upgrade. What FPS are you guys getting with the 4070 Ti Super?
Would upgrading to a 16 GB card be worth it? Or would that money be better invested in credits spent on the cloud rendering option?
No. Spending it on the cloud version has the disadvantage of no retries for the money spent. Basically every movie below 720p that I have enhanced with TVAI has something that can be improved. Spending the money on the GPU means you can run enhancements again or run new models when they come out—in hopes of getting those improvements.
I have a 4070 ti, but I have not tried Starlight Mini with it. I have only tried it with my 3080 ti.
Those two GPUs should run at about the same speed for Starlight Mini. The 4070 ti Super should be a little better.
So far, the circle-dot overlay pattern that gets added to trees grass and such is a deal-breaker for Starlight Mini. Then there’s the extra slow time to process on top of that.
You’d have to get a 32BG card to get it all to run on the GPU normally. But you can turn down the max memory percentage to get some movies to run all on in the VRAM. I don’t know if 16 is still enough for that. I know 24GB is.
Hopefully someone else can answer. I’m running a little test on my two computers now. Maybe it will give you some insight.
4:3 ratio 480p to (2x) 960p 4 second 60 fps clip on the 3080 ti took 11:38 and reported 0.4 fps. It used about 20GB of memory total so 10 in the GPU and 10 in the system RAM.
The same clip with the same settings on the 4070 ti took 10:54 and reported the same 0.4fps—this computer has a newer CPU and DDR5 RAM compared to the other one with DDR4. This might not be the best information for you since the speed improvement could be from any or all of the differences in hardware.
What if you upload a test video clip? Tell what settings to use, I or anyone can run it on our machine and report how long it takes.
I agree, but all AI Models are very slow with actual Gr.cards.
With 4070super speed for 4K video from 25 to 50 fps was 5 fps.
(but really superb quality)
With 5080 the same job comes also only to 8.5 fps. …
… for the next upgrade i will wait 2 or 3 Generations …
I’ve got a 4070 Ti Super. If you want, you could send over a short video and we can both run it through Starlight Mini using the same settings. I’ll let you know what FPS and time remaining I get so you can compare.
interesting to see how the price drops, but only the 5070 midrange significant AMD competition is having an impact 5070 none Ti costs only 579€ or 539 US$ for now here
Now there is a huge mismatch between the 5070 and the 5070Ti which costs twice as much but is not twice as fast. it could be that the expensive card prices also becomes price drops
