I am trying to get clarification before I update to 1.2.0. I’m currently running 1.1.1 and I have opacity and minor denoise sliders for the sharpening models (along with strength). Before I consider 1.2.0…have the opacity and minor denoise sliders been removed? I was reading through the posts for 1.2.0 and that’s what I was seeing. There’s a lot in that thread, so perhaps I missed something, but Ange said those sliders were never there for the sharpening models. They are there on my screen. Apologies if I missed or misread something.
Thanks all!
Hi.
Sorry to disappoint the Opacity Sliders have been removed from version 1.2.0 but the Miner Denoise slider is still available
Hope this helps
Thanks Ange. Could you tell me what the rationale is for the change? Is there something technical that makes that slider unnecessary? Many of us seem to use it and find it very helpful. Just trying to understand and adapt my workflow. Thanks again!
Sorry I don’t work for Topaz so haven’t got an answer why it was removed properly some technical reason and perhaps they may decide to bring it back at some point.
Personally, I never used it myself and wouldn’t have used it anyway I’m a firm believer in not using any kind of Opacity Sliders with Sharpening or Blurring for that matter.
Because, unlike a Strength Slider where you only apply the right amount of Sharpening or Blurring to achieve the results you require.
When you use Opacity you’re not actually reducing the Sharpening or Blurring you are in actual fact only blending that Sharpening or Blurring strength within the image therefore, giving the impression of reducing the strength thus, making the effect appear unnatural.
It’s a similar story with the Brush Tool in Photoshop whereby I only adjust the Flow and not Opacity

I see you’ve already had a reply from the Ange saying the Opacity Sliders will return hopefully in the near future.
They said the slider would come back:
and, of course, it was a very bad idea to remove it.
Many of Topaz functions are quite „over the top“ (seem to be made with small smartphone screens in mind) - so the possibility diminishing that with an opacity-slider is extremely welcome.
Otherwise you would have to overlay the Topaz output with the original in e.g. Photoshop to achieve something that is viewable on a 32“ monitor.
This issue has been solved in Topaz Photo v1.2.1. You can update from in-app or find the installers here
