The most recent updates won’t install because the app thinks there is another update in progress. It states it can’t complete the update until the current update completes. There is no other update being done (as confirmed by Task Manager).
Steps to reproduce issue:
Step 1
Start Topaz Photo AI
Step 2
New Updates are flagged. Clicked on Update. Download was completed. Asked to Install Now. Clicked OK.
Step 3
Message appears that another installation must complete first. No other information given. Only option is to bail or retry. Retry goes no where.
Step 4
Notify you. We just paid for another year on this product. It would be nice to use it…
Topaz Photo AI [v1.x.x] on [Windows/Mac]
Windows 11 Pro
I think that’s the generic windows error message if msiexec is running somewhere, so check for that (beyond Windows Installer). Sometimes it gets stuck as a ghost process (task manager/details tab). msiserver shows as stopped under task manager/services on my machine. Also make sure you’ve rebooted a couple times.
(never mind if you’ve tried all of this so far, but if so, do you get the error installing something else or just tpai?)
After spending a lot of time trying to isolate the errant running program, I finally just re-installed the Windows update (24H2). That wound up eliminating the ghost program and allowed me to install the Photo AI 3.4.1 update successfully.
Topaz has been great… Windows is something else, though…
I had actually written something about 24H2 but deleted it before posting because I thought I was getting too off topic (my machine just did 24H2 today, and stalled a long time at 98%). Glad it’s working.
@starfire151a - great to see that a Windows reinstall fixed your issue!
If anyone else get this error message: "Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one. "
These can be Windows updates that happen in the background, that you are not aware of. To kill any processes (Topaz or not) please follow these steps:
Open Task Manager.
Go to the Details tab.
Find and terminate the following processes with the name “Setup” or “Installer”. You can type Installer in the search field at the very top. Same for Setup.
If any processes with those names are present, right-click on it > click End task.
