Just purchased and trying to install Photo AI 3.3.1

Installer freezes with this error message: “Your CPU must support AVX instructions to install this program”

My CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K (should support both AVX and AVX2 instruction set extensions).

Tried disabling Windows antivirus. Also run “bcdedit /set xsavedisable 0” to enable AVX on my system - just in case. None of these helped.

Please, advise.

Please follow the instructions here to run the installer in the Admin Command Prompt.

  1. Search for Command Prompt. Click run as Administrator

  2. Follow the instructions here to get the directory for your Downloads folder | Running Topaz Photo AI Installer with Admin Command Prompt Windows | Loom

  3. Type in the below command and then hit Enter to run the Topaz Photo AI installer. Make sure the name of the installer in the command matches the one in your Downloads folder.msiexec /i TopazPhotoAI-3.3.1.msi

Followed those steps but no luck. Trying to troubleshoot with Ange from support via email. Any new ideas appreciated!

I have the same problem on a Lenovo X1 Carbon with i7-7600U which supports AVX.

Partial Success! Got it to install version 3.2.0. Everything above that did not install due to AVX error. So the bug must be in the software, not my hardware…

Where did you download v 3.2.0 from ?

Simply choose any version you need and install

I am having the same issue on my brand new Microsoft Surface pro which DOES support AVX.

I’m having same problem on a new i7 14700f system running Win 11 Pro 24H2. I’m gutted as it was fine of the old Dell i5 it replaced…

For anyone having this error message: “Your CPU must support AVX instructions to install this program”

First step is to make sure your computer has AVX instructions.

  • If you already had Photo AI on your computer and you are just updating version, then this confirms you have AVX instructions, you can follow the steps in the next section.
  • If you never had Photo AI installed on this computer, send us your System Profile at support@topazlabs.com and we can confirm: How To Obtain Your System Profile (Windows)
  • Example: Snapdragon machines do not have AVX instructions. We are working on supporting Snapdragon Processors in the near-future.

**If you have AVX instructions and still get the error:

First make sure you are using the Windows installer link and not the ARM link (for Snapdragon machines) If you made sure you were using the correct installer:

Also make sure you are on the latest Windows update:

  • 2 places, first is in Settings > Windows Update > To do Updates there
  • Then the ones in Settings > Windows Update > Advanced > Optional updates

If all fails, Test a full uninstall of the app:

  • In Add/Remove Program, uninstall Photo AI
  • Do a sanity check that all Files in C:/Program Data and Program Files for Photo AI are deleted.
  • Then reinstall from your “My Products" page
