Face detection has stopped working since update 4.2, if i revert back to version 4.1 it works. any ideas? When selected it seems to be looking for a face and says it found one, but nothing is applied to either the preview or exported image.
Description of the issue:
The development team is looking into an issue affecting users with the NVIDIA RTX 30 series graphics cards. Recover Faces Generation 2 (Realistic) - the default model is having issues where it’s either not doing anything to the image, or it’s creating some blurry patches or artifacts on the faces.
Workarounds
- The issue is not happening if the Creative model is selected, or if Generation 1 is selected.
- It’s also possible to put the AI processor to CPU in the Photo AI settings to bypass the graphics card, although this will mean slower processing. (Edit > Preferences > AI Processor)
- Another solution is to revert to version 4.0.1 of Photo AI, as this was introduced in version 4.0.2

Adding you to this thread so you can keep an eye for the fix.
I thought I would take a chance on using the 4.0.3 with my system. I chickened out and turned off my Nvidia card in favor of the Arc internal processing. Please let me know if the repair to your software finally lets me use my more efficient and superior Nvidia card but for now, the enhancements that are obvious from the 4.0.1 version are worth the painfully more inefficient Arc.

We are still working on fixing this issue. Thank you for your patience ![]()
Our team has released Topaz Photo v1.0.1, which fixes the issue where artifacts appear while using the Recover Faces enhancement on machines with the NVIDIA RTX series graphics cards.
You will be able to download this update by using the link below ![]()
Once you have installed the latest version of v4.0.2, please check the following:
-
Open Photo AI
-
Go to Edit > Preferences > General > AI Processor
-
Set the AI Processor option to Auto
-
Click Save
- Note: This is an important setting as it will ensure you get the best performance out of your machine’s full capabilities.
Please let me know how that goes for you, and if you have any other questions in the meantime, feel free to ask the team here, and we can assist ![]()
