The program still can’t crop correctly some videos despite multiple reports. In my example if the video is 4:3 PAR 720p x 480px mpg-2, when I try to crop, as soon as I move the right hand handle, it snaps to 640px and cannot be moved further right, despite the program acknowledging that it is 720px wide.
What is the problem?
Multiple people have reported the issue and you are not attempting to address the issue.
Re-encoding in a format & aspect that you like is NOT A SOLUTION, you are supposed to improve the quality of videos, multiple re-encodes before you can do a simple thing like cropping is not really good enough for the money spent supporting your project.
Please look at this issue and fix it.
I’m afraid you can wait forever for that, was reported over 1.5 years ago and has not been resolved yet 
What I do is crop/resize into Virtualdub or Hybrid and save as AVI or FFV1, so then you have no encoding loss.
This is still being investigated and worked on at this time, however, it is a deeper issue that is requiring more work to patch.
