Nyx errors when trying to render

Hi Folks,

I am having an issue when running Nyx. I am trying to render a couple of seconds of video and Nyx crashes 100% of the time. I have tried all other models and they work fine, just Nyx seems to be the issue.

I generated the source file using Handbrake with metadata as follows
180MB size
MPG H265 (I also tried rendering H264, same issue occurs)
640x480
29.970030 FPS
aac 128bit Audio

Behaviour

I have also tried using generating the source as MPG H264 with the same issue. Please note the source files are good, they work perfectly in any video player.

  • I create a new project in Topaz Video AI.
  • I add the above source file to the project.
  • In Topaz Video AI UI, I enable enhancement.
  • I set Nyx as model
  • I setup a few seconds of in / out timeline.
  • I click ā€˜Render In / Out’.
  • I get the ā€˜Processing’ label, and then the process errors (see screenshot).
  • I have tried tweaking the Preferences, Max Memory etc. Nothing makes any difference.

Maybe 632x480 is a problem for NYX, or the selected segement is to short. What happens if you select no segment do the full video? What output format was selected? Try h264.

Personally would drag the source into Virtualdub, select filters → resize and resize 632 to 640 by keeping aspect ratio, then select additional filter ā€œNull Transformā€ and crop the few pixels away you get vertical size of 480.

I’ve tried various segment lengths, I’ve also tried rendering the full video. Same issue occurs. If 632x480 is a problem for NYX, and it crashes as it does, I’d call that brittle and unstable. Why should the resolution matter? Surely the model is not just limited to a handful of common dimensions. Even a decent error message explaining that as an issue would be bette than just a crash. The output format was H264.

On looking at source video meta data in VLC, it states that Video Resolution is 632x480, and Buffer Dimension is 640x480. I’m confused by this. Whats the actual resolution?

I’ve just re-rendered the source video in handbrake to a resolution of 640x480. I then retried with Topaz Video AI. It’s still crashing.

I’m just wondering if anyone can have a look at my logs and perhaps help me troubleshoot?

I don’t know what this in VLC means, you can check source file with MediaInfo I don’t know if 632 is the problem NYX does not work, but it is not codec friendly (and not 4:3) …normally this should work also, but not for sure, in fact it does not work and we don’t know why, so try out is the key.

I just recommend do anyway 640x480 native pixel without DAR by resize/crop and export as AVI, then give TVAI this for a try. As I described above, without Handbrake.

What I see in the log is source error ā€œmoov atom not foundā€ which indicates file is incomplete, corrupted, or not properly formatted. But I’m not from Topaz and can’t interpert their logs well.

Logs are showing that the GPU is running into an error when trying to run the heavier Nyx model. The Quadro P2000 card is below spec for version 6.2 and I see that you have lowered the max memory to 60% it looks like.

Try raising that back up to 75% and see if that gives it a little more room to run.

You mentioned the drivers were up to date, are you running the Studio Drivers for this card?

Kyle, point taken regarding the Quadro P2000. I’m wondering would the CPU (i5-13500) be as good or even better? When I can afford it, I will look at sourcing a used 4060 or something. The price of hardware is insane atm. In the meantime, I’d dearly love if the application could be a little more informative when it comes to errors rather than just pointing us to here and generating a log archive. I’d love to actually know what the error is here? Anyway, I’m grateful for the inputs and responses and here’s hoping for a reolution. Do the logs give you any specific error?
