No noise removal for medium noise?

Autopilot detects “medium noise” but does not turn on noise removal.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Go to Topaz Photo AI plugin from Photoshop with fairly noisy image, for example with ISO 1250
  2. Wait for Autopilot
  3. Note that “medium noise detected” is shown in the tool tips, but noise removal is not turned on.

Topaz Photo AI [v1.4,3] on [Windows]

Is this image from a RAW processed in Camera RAW before opening? And, if so, was Noise Removal turned off in Camera RAW?

This is a image passed from Affinity Photo (NR off) at 1600ISO and it picked up low noise and processed accordingly.

Yes, RAW processed in ACR with NR turned off.

The noise is clearly visible in the Topaz preview. If I turn on noise reduction manually it does a good job of removing it.

Could you send me the file so I can check the Autopilot behavior?

You can securely submit your image(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

What format should I send? The raw file is 44MB.

The original image. If it started as Raw please upload the Raw so I can reproduce.

In addition to sending the image I would like to report the following results of tests I have conducted:

Case 1, raw file is loaded into ACR and processed with no sharpening, but sliders are used to correct the too-dark image

. Result: when opened in Photoshop, the file is processed using Topaz Photo AI plugin. The auto-pilot reports “Medium noise”, but does not do noise reduction, but does sharpening.

Case 2, raw file is loaded into ACR and processed with no sharpening, but no further processing. Result: when opened in Photoshop, the file is processed using Topaz Photo AI plugin. The auto-pilot reports “Low noise” and does not do noise reduction, but does sharpening.

Case 3, raw file is loaded into Topaz Photo AI standalone, which reports “High noise”, reduces the noise, and does sharpening.
