New to Topaz AI-seems very slow for processing RAW files

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Selected a bunch of files, set it to work
  2. Left it alone to do it’s thing during dinner
  3. After dinner, only 3 out of 12 files finished-and I’m a slow eater!

Topaz Photo AI [v1.x.x] on [Windows/Mac]

that is quite normal and depending on your hardware.

So maybe it would be better to process RAW files with LR then if noisy use Topaz on a jpg file?

Please visit this page, select your operating system (Windows or Mac) and click “Find Your System Profile”. Send me the system profile so I can check your system specs.
Topaz Photo AI System Requirements

If it’s an old computer with a slow graphics card, then this may be expected behavior. I can check if there is a driver we can update to improve the performance or if there are other limitations on your processing.

Hello Lingyu
Thanks for reaching out. Is the following sufficient information?

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro15,1
Processor Name: 6-Core Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.6 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 6
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 9 MB
Hyper-Threading Technology: Enabled
Memory: 16 GB
System Firmware Version: 1731.140.2.0.0 (iBridge: 19.16.16064.0.0,0)
OS Loader Version: 540.120.3~19
Serial Number (system): C02X43SMJG5M
Hardware UUID: 32C14EA5-A38C-5717-9963-C1BB12CA00AD
Provisioning UDID: 32C14EA5-A38C-5717-9963-C1BB12CA00AD
Activation Lock Status: Enabled

I had problems following the procedure you described, so hope this will suffice.

Kind regards

David

What graphics card do you have? That will be the main determinant of the processing speed.

This information here does not show the graphics card. You can simply take a screenshot of your system settings like this:

Thanks Lingyu

I look forward to hearing from you.

David

I think this is what you need though:

Thanks for sending your system profile. This computer meets the minimum requirements.

The graphics card is low-power integrated and will process slowly. Upscaling is the most intensive process so your computer may be slowing down as it tries to finish upscaling the image.

Do you have another computer you could try using Topaz Photo AI with?

Hello Lingyu

Thanks for your feedback. I have a work pc but it is not highly specified for graphics either. Can you recommend and specify the ideal computer for processing RAW images using Topaz please?

Regards

David

Well, I think Topaz Photo AI’s priority strongly relies on the image quality, not so on processing speed. Get a PC with a dedicated graphics card, not an integrated graphics processing unit and you should be fine. Even then please do not expect wonders in terms of the processing speed.

The minimum requirements for Topaz Photo AI are here:

For a Mac, the new M1 and M2 devices would be a huge upgrade over this current device.

Oh, a minimum of 12 GB RAM is a lot even today. A very common memory size is maybe 8 GB of RAM. Especially for notebooks. :eyes:

We do our best to support computers on the low end. However, the technology dictates the minimum requirements, not the lowest common denominator for computer specs.

Below the minimum requirements there are many limitations. There are workarounds for these issues, but the effort to get the application working is not worth the expected value you would receive.
